Deadline: Nathan Fillion Says ‘Firefly’ Animated Series In Development With Co-Stars Set To Reprise Roles; Concept Art Revealed

Today, Sunday, March 15th 2026, Nathan Fillion and the remaining core crew of Serenity announced at Awesome Con in DC that they are bringing back Firefly as an animated series called Firefly: Still Flyin'.

In the video posted on the Once We Were Spacemen (OWWS) Instagram account, Nathan detailed what they would need and who has signed on to the project thus far:

The rights from 20th Century Fox/ Disney: "They got excited - they said yes"

Showrunners: a married couple who met through Firefly! Tara Butters (Dollhouse, Agent Carter, Reaper) and Marc Guggenheim (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow)

In the video, Nathan goes on to say that the last thing they need is a home. He asks everyone to like, comment on, and tag your friends in this post to spread the word and get Firefly: Still Flyin' a home.

10. Is there a character or ship you'd love to write for, but haven't yet?

I would love to write more about Ezra's parents, Mira and Ephraim Bridger! In fact, I've thought up a fix exploring their thoughts and choices as the Empire first came to Lothal, how they started their broadcasts and how they avoided being detected for so long, their friendship with Ryder Azadi, and how much they loved little Ezra! But it's a multi-chapter fic, and I have no idea where to end it--thus, it's anyone's guess when it will see the light of day.

30. Have you noticed your style change over time?

My prose has become more streamlined and less wordy. Writing fanfic has taught me a lot about pacing and writing description/reactions in a way that writing my original fiction didn't--with original fiction, there are so many details to keep track of that I've spread my focus over several aspects of writing a story. With fanfiction, the world and characters are already established; I just have to pick the moment I want to explore. And with that narrowed focus, I learned how to pace and describe scenes so much better!

And I have become surprised at how many words I don't actually need. XD
