an anti-AI laptop.

think about it. all programs with the necessary functions without ai (or ads actually, might as well go big). collaborations with software developers who focus on creating actual usable apps minus usage or integration of ai. so all your basic stuff (think google, adobe suite, microsoft suite, etc) gets replaced by their anti-ai alternatives. and if there aren't any in the market then we create them ourselves. the apps/programs created by us would be free (by which i mean: included in the price of purchasing the laptop). we'll go back to those days when "googling" something meant getting a question answered in the first search result itself. when we didn't live in the constant apprehension of liking an ai-generated post.

I'm also thinking of adding a social media platform to it that is, again, highly moderated against ai and ads.

have y’all heard of JEFFGOLDBLUMLE? it’s like wordle except it’s 12 letters, you only get three guesses, and 90% of the time the answer is JEFFGOLDBLUM.

the other 10% of the time it’s another 12-letter word and it’s absurdly hard to guess.

i’m obsessed with this one guy’s “cheat” (which is actually a lot of effort)

When I turned 17, we ordered a cake at the grocery store for my party, as we’d done many times before. If you wanted something written on the cake you’d write it into a section of the order form. We requested, very simply, “Happy Birthday Courtney”. When we went to pick it up the day of the party, this is what we got.

The bakery employees had absolutely no explanation for this. The order form, attached to the box, very clearly did not contain any of those extra names. Whomever had done the writing was no longer in, so there was no one to ask how this had happened. The fact that the name ‘Juan’ is misspelled bewilders me to this day. (I’ve never seen ‘Miley’ without the E, either, but it’s believable that someone might spell it that way.) Did this cake slip in from an alternate universe where I’m one quarter of a set of Hispanic quadruplets? Dyslexic Hispanic quadruplets, maybe?

This cake became the focal point of my party. At least two of my friends regularly called me ‘Courtney Mily Jaun Pablo’ for years to come. My siblings and I still reference it sometimes, eleven years later. It is probably the funniest thing ever to occur at any birthday celebration of my life, and may well remain so for the rest of my days.

No One Like You

now, it took us a while to realise it meant "(there is) no one like you". at first, we all parsed it as a botched "no one like(s) you"

"Oh I don't normally use AI, I just wanted it to plan my trip"

You lived on this planet for decades, you know what you like, there are hundreds of websites where you can type into any search engine " things to do in [area]" and have at least a hundred different options.

"Oh I only use it so I can figure out what to make during the week with what I have"

The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.

"I had a writing idea, so I typed a few sentences into Chat GPT and I was able to write 20 pages with it."
