Fair Warning for all of my visitors and new followers; you have until I notice you following me to have an age on your profile before I block you.
Those who don't have an age and send in a request, your request will be DELETED no questions asked.
NO MINORS. Literally, this is an +18 blog. I don't care if you are 17 and a day away from 18, don't follow unless you are 18 or older. This goes for reblogs as well. The amount of 12-16 year olds who think they can just reblog smut is too damn high. I will block y'all too.
If you interact at all I WILL check your profile. If you have no age or have an age under 18, I will block you. Do not slide into my DMs with an alternate account- that also has no age or indicates you are a minor- because I will block that too. I will only look at the header or first post for age, I will NOT go digging just to see if you are an adult or not.
If you lie about your age and get blocked, that is a you problem. Do not cry to me that you lied about your age and are salty you got blocked. No amount of "oh, but I'm actually an adult who lied and said I was a kid" will sway me because I WILL report you for posing as a child, that is pedo behavior and I don't tolerate it.
If you are pressed about your age being shown, put 18+. You don't even have to put your exact birthdate or anything. Just show you are not a child.
12 year olds, I don't give a fuck if you've had sex already or not, stay the fuck off my page and stop making alternates so you can access spaces NOT MEANT FOR YOU.

How does Alistair feel about the Human not following Unicorn standards?
He is thrilled. More than thrilled.
Alistair despises the "clean and proper" standards of Unicorns, leaning more towards the Pegasus way of viewing of things. Unlike Unicorns, Pegasi are keen to have vivid colors, bold expressions, and generally a bit more rough and tumbe when compared to Unicorns. Alistair used to love wrestling with Pegasi as a foal and he feels his mother- a Pegasus- gave way to the Unicorn way of thinking too easily. He actually somewhat dislikes that Unicorns view his horn and pastel colors as something to be desired.
As he was raised to attract a competent female suitor to take the throne- the Queendom of Roses being an intensely matriarchal society- he has little interest in the throne or to be seen as some delicate and withdrawn Unicorn.
Alistair actively attempts to break proper Unicorn societal standards and goes out of his way to be rough compared to the deliciate Unicorn others want him to be. If the Human judges him based off of something other than Unicorn standards, he certainly won't mind. He knows that he has an advantage if judged as a Unicorn, but he likes the challenge of being appraised by the Human in a completely different light.
Seal father is incredibly warm and snuggly. He is a wonderful combination of a Leopard Seal Selkie and a Harp Seal Selkie, so he is quite literally built for freezing cold weather. Toasty, comfortable, paternal to an extreme, and easy to snuggle into, Divus is the ideal cuddle buddy.
If anyone- ANYONE- tries to bother you, Divus is chasing them off furiously.
Vil just doing his lil' dancy dance to try and woo the Human, all the while the Human is either ignoring him or just assumes his dance is a regular Harpy behavior.
and it's been reminding me so much of the luck dragons horns. and it got me thinking (although no pressure or anything to incorporate it into the actual lore) that maybe thats where the musical designs come from in their horns. like it's a result of a symbiotic relationship between the luck dragons and maybe we'll call them "song beetles" bc their carvings look so similar to musical notes.
and the more intricate the designs in the horns and the more there are, is a sign of age and also good symbiosis for the dragons bc the beetles are protected and whatnot/was good for attracting a mate (not that there are any more luck dragons. and maybe even song beetles have all but got extinct or maybe are now only kept in captivity to farm nice carvings in wood)
I could see a symbiotic relationship between Luck Dragons and Song Beetles. Their horns were highly valued because each horn held a unique and beautiful musical score that others would kill to get their hands on.
With the death of the Last Luck Dragon, the species almost became extinct. They need a specific level of magic at all times- previously supplied by the Luck Dragon in question- as they survive off of magical energies the way Genies do. To have that much magic in hand is difficult for most creatures, but some determined composers would pour most of their life-essence into their magic just to get one song out of the beetles. They also had to be put on horns and bone, as the beetles complex compositions were too delicate for wood. Only bone or horn would be accepted.
There are several Song Beetles still alive in Briar Valley, supplemented with the magic of the Draconias. The Draconias keep the Song Beetles to preserve what remains of the Luck Dragons, most of whom has incredibly positive relationships with all other Dragon species.

I wonder what would happen if the suitors fully realised that the Human does not hold them to the same beauty standards as their own species.
Riddle and Azul might be happy, but Vil is going to panic if he realises his more brilliant plumage and resplendent tail might not outweigh Neige’s drab colouration.
Warnings: yandere behavior, species differences, yandere attempting to earn the attention/affection of the Human/reader, Human x Monster species disconnect,
Short answer: depends on the species
Long answer:
Vil is having an absolute fit and not even Rook can calm him down. What do you mean his beloved Peahen isn't absolutely taken with his beautiful plumage?? Once he gets over his own meltdown, he very suddenly becomes self-conscious. If his Human doesn't hold him to Harpy standards, he could lose them to the drab and bland Neige. He will be absolutely be crushed by the idea that his beloved may not swoon for him just because of his plumage. It becomes a sore subject for Vil, enough that he will start hissing if anyone brings it up.
Riddle is so relieved that he isn't being held to Unicorn standards. His mane and tail are vividly colored, something that is often frowned upon by Unicorns as pastels are more valued (expecting in the case of Human/Unicorn hybrids, to which their Human lineage puts them above every other species). To not be judged by his mane and his horn is a relief to him. He has spent most of his life being told that he is a non-desirable male by his mother, who held grades and appearance in extremely high regard. After his horn is broken, he is extremely sensitive about it and feels inadequate due to the horn itself being smaller. A Unicorn's pride is tied to their horn length and their skill, to have a broken horn is a sore subject to a Unicorn. It warms his heart to know his beloved doesn't tie hos value to his horn.
Leona's actually not bothered one way or another. He fully believes he can still win the Human over even if they aren't going to judge him the way a Nemean Lioness would. This isn't to say he won't take immaculate care of his pelt and fight off outside rival males. He is determined to learn what attracts the Human and make them his.
Azul is beyond relieved. As a Cecaelia, Azul's attractiveness is based off of his colors and his patterns. His colors are considered boring to most other merfolk, especially female Cecaelia. He is boring to them. Most male Cecaelia are smaller than the females, but typically more colorful and interesting to look at. Where is patterns on his arms are considered beautiful, his lack of patterns on the rest of his body bore most females. To know his beloved Human doesn't see him as boring or a lesser value male due to his colors relieves him more than he cares to share.
Malleus is confused, but he more than makes up for it with gusto. A Dragon's worth- in they eyes of other Dragons- is based around their Hoard and their strength. Malleus has never encountered a Dragon he was not related to, so even he doesn't know the proper way a Dragon would evaluate a mate. As far as he is concerned, his strength can protect his Human Treasure, his object Hoard can give his Treasure wealth, his living Hoard can care for his Treasure. He is ideal as far as he is concerned. The only issue Malleus runs into is his sensitivity to his Treasure's emotions. He doesn't want to upset them, so when he does he is near inconsolable and refuses to be comforted.
Genies are treated like Dragons- feared, respected, worshiped, like demi-gods. To think that someone won't immediate give him either what he wants or will even fight back against his desires/wishes upsets him. He has never really had to face a situation where others don't bend over backwards to try and please him. He was raised to think his behavior is acceptable and to believe that he can pick whoever he wishes as a mate. Where Kalim has a much kinder and generous heart than most Genies, he still doesn't fully understand that the Human will not cater to him and will call him out for his behavior. As far as he is concerned, he just has to work harder at earning the affections of his beloved Human.
Idia is impartial. He doesn't like the attention that he gets from other Shinigami due to his heritage. He doesn't really like being the center of attention for anyone other than the Human. So long as he can try to win the Human over with his own awkward behavior, he will be happy. He may try to self-sabotage by listing everything he sees as "wrong" with him, but he secretly hopes the Human just loves him anyway.

The day continued on and Grim insisted on stopping almost anywhere that vaguely caught his interest. It was more than fortunate that you had a trove of wealthy beasts at your every call, seeing as Grim wanted something from almost everywhere. Even the times you wanted a trinket or other item, you had several males jumping in to pay. Some store owners gave you things for free, the jewelry shop surprising you more than expected as they happily decorated you in gems. Part of you wondered if they were behaving this way because they wanted to give you things, or because they wanted some kind of claim on you.
Regardless of what ulterior motives they may have had, you got plenty of gifts from the many beasts seeking your attention. Vil made a clear point of staying by your side and keeping his wing on you no matter what, either to block photos or steer you away from the crowds. Neige and Rook also hovered obsessively, keeping a clear barrier between you and others. You did your best to distribute your attention among the males, noticing the way Vil would bristle any time you showed greater attention to Neige than him.
Now you were looking forward to a quiet dining experience, Grim dozing in your arms and still stuffed full of treats from the various shops. Rook had started a long tangent about the various movies that would be previewed during the private screenings, and had started ranting about the unfair comparison of actors. It was slowly occurring to you that the beasts all measured themselves by their species standard, so they wanted you- a Human who had no prior experience with other species- to weigh in. Your view was far less tainted by species expectation and that made you more than a little valuable to the many actors striving for attention.
"What do you think of her scales, (Y/n)? I believe you have seen a few of her film roles with Roi du Poison."
"I guess I didn't really notice her scales all that much. They're pretty, sure, but not all that interesting to me."
You shrugged at this and Rook almost seemed offended by the lack of interest you had. His brows pulled together in a way that displayed his confusion before it melted into understanding. Rook always was quick to try and figure you out, often doing what he could to think from your perspective.
"Ah, pardonne-moi, I so often forget you are not like most. You are not beholden to the standards typical to most species."
Neige seemed to perk up at this, tilting his head curiously as he stared at you and Rook. It was moments like these that reminded you these beasts were not Human. His behavior reminded you starkly of a bird of prey analyzing a potential snack. For as soft and rounded as Neige's face was, he was still dangerous and it was humbling to remember such things.
"(Y/n), does your species not value colorful mates?"
"Not really... I mean, some people like colorful hair and tattoos, but as a whole? Humans don't really look for the most colorful or flashy of partners. We have a wide spread view of what is pretty or beautiful. Do I think colorful feathers are pretty? Sure. But I also think plain feathers can be just as lovely. Like you and Vil, for example. Vil is very beautiful and has a bunch of colors, each feather carefully taken care of and always neatly groomed. You don't have the same wild colors as Vil, but your feathers look so comfortable to lay on, plus you have a soft and beautiful face. You both are beautiful to me, but in different ways."
This warmed Neige's chest and made that emptiness inside his very being feel just a little smaller. You didn't think Vil was more beautiful than him just based on feather color. Rook was right. He had talked about how you had different views on beauty from most, and now he could hear it straight from you. Neige had a chance.
Vil, however, was not overly pleased to hear you didn't find his feathers to be as enticing as a female Harpy would. Perhaps he would have to work on a special dance solely for you. One that would interest and enamor you to the point that you wouldn't dare entertain the thought of others. He would certainly start working on it the moment he had time to himself.
"Even beyond that, I think most of you are really interesting. Humans don't grow feathers, or have long tails, or magic, so you all are fascinating to me."
"Oh, I thought Humans could have horns, since yours are coming in?"
You were quick to reach up and feel that your hair had fallen from around the horns, exposing their golden sides to others. Vil was quick to stop and begin helping you wrap them again as you tried to find a way to respond to Neige. Each gentle brush of his hand against them had you almost shivering from the pleasant sensation.
"Ah... My horns are not normal for Humans. Those are a result of what happened at that second representative meeting at school. I was chosen by the Luck Dragon Fortuna to inherit her will and her magic... The horns are new and not normal for Humans."
"I think they're lovely."
"Well... Thanks, I guess. If other Humans saw me... They would think I'm a freak."
Neige frowned at this, noticing how displeased you were by these new additions. He thought they suited you. Now, he had certainly never met a Human before, but he did find your visage to be a beautiful one. He would be surprised and incredulous if you ever claimed to not be beautiful. You were pure beauty, as far as Neige was concerned.
"There, Peahen. I'll keep a closer eye to make sure they don't unravel again. The last thing you need is any rumors flying around about you growing horns. I doubt many would assume you are turning into a Dragon, but it would be best to keep others unaware for now. The excitement around your existence may blow such a thing out of proportion."
"Thank you, Vil. I appreciate you willing to keep this quiet for me."
Rook and Neige were stunned. They hadn't realized that you were changing, but it did explain the horns you now sported. Rook had assumed you were wearing a headband of some kind and that was where the horns came from. To think you were turning into a Dragon right before his very eyes.
"How long before the change fully takes place?"
"I've been told it will take several months. My horns are the first change... It was my horns coming in that rendered me so ill before break started."
Rook nodded, a contemplative expression on his face as if you said the most logical thing he could think of. Leave it to the unusual Drider that claimed to be a purveyor of beauty to take the news as easily as he did.
"It would make sense. The energy, nutrients, and strength alone to grow extra bones on your head would absolutely put a strain on your body. I would be shocked if it caused you no pain. Are they pained now? Do you need rest before we continue?"
"No," you chuckled softly, feeling endeared by the Drider's concern for you, "I am not currently in pain. I assume as they grow I will have increasing headaches or even migraines from the strain, but I am alright right now."
"Hmm... Do let me know if that changes, Mon Trickster."
"I promise."

Crowley had yet to return as your group finally made it to the restaurant where you would supposedly be meeting Tibbs and The Colonel. It was clearly a high end restaurant and you understood now why Vil insisted that you adorn one of the dresses he had made for you.
The primary colors were a deep gray and white with a near prismatic rainbow shine to them. On their own without the shine, you would have guessed they were the plain colors of a Peahen Harpy. The gray a gentle gray tone and the white reminded you of the feathers that adorn a Peahen. It was a rather nice compliment to the intense colors that Vil had adorning him at all times, even the shine tying in the motif rather well.
Vil had been hovering more than usual, but you figured it was due to the many eyes that trailed after you hungrily. You were Human, and sought after by almost all in Maquillaville. Though they had yet to brazenly follow or attack you as others had, you were not naïve enough to believe that there weren't some creatures just waiting for their moment to strike.
Part of you felt more than a little exhausted with the idea that you could never really let down your guard. Another part of you recognized that it was simply what your life had become around these obsessed beasts. The fact that you were an effectively extinct species only driving these beasts to seek you out with greater hunger and longing due to your rarity.
As you approached the table, the two already sitting quickly stood, each pulling out chairs respectively for you and your group. Eric and Vil ensured you were the first to be seated, following suit to sit on either side next to you. Neige sat next, almost seeming surprised when the two well dressed beasts also sat him at the table. Rook didn't fit in a chair, so he simply curled his legs beneath him to settle by the table, smiling happily where he was settled. Clay was the last to sit, even insisting the other two sat before him just to get a better feel of the pair.
As they sat down across from you, you were finally able to get a better look at the pair.
They were drastically different in appearance and body shape despite their identical suits. The first was a very anxious looking feline-man who reminded you of Jack, his fur covered face only semi-hidden behind black sunglasses that kept slipping from the bridge of his muzzle. His ears were on a constant swivel as they turned to listen to all the conversations around him.
The- you assumed to be- man next to the first was a very odd looking fellow. It looked as if someone took the head, tail, and legs of a sheepdog and pasted it onto the body of a Human man. If anything, he reminded you of Che'nya with a more animalistic head. He seemed older based off of the wrinkles in his hands, but his face put you at ease given the fluffy sheep-dog visage. Unlike Jack, this man did not give you the sense that you were looking at a wild animal playing a facsimile of a tame beast. For all intents and purposes, he seemed like a domestic sheepdog meshed with a man.
"(Y/n), it is my pleasure to introduce you to Sgt. Tibbs and The Colonel."
"Please," the dog-man bared his teeth in a grin as he offered his hand to shake, "call me Hal."
You happily took his outstretched hand and gave a firm shake in greeting, noticing the gnarled hand had clear scars covering it and thick skin. This was the hand of a man who had done physical work for most of his life with nothing to prove. He didn't squeeze or crush your hand, but it wasn't a limp shake either.
"Pleasure to meet you, Hal."
"The pleasure is all mine, Miss (Y/n). Your reputation proceeds you, as does your need for protection. I've seen the way others view you, and I don't blame you for needing that sense of security, especially in Maquillaville. Eric speaks quite highly of you and has emphasized your continued need for protection from others who may do you harm."
Eric seemed to fluff up his feathers at this, quite pleased at the praise that was gently being put upon him by Hal. You didn't feel too unsettled or uncomfortable around the new pair, but you remained cautious all the same. If they can be as trusted as Eric claims, then there should be no reason that you wouldn't accept them under Clay's watch.
"The Sargent and The Colonel are both quite adept at their jobs. I would expect no less from those who have served in combat."
"Are wars common here?"
"Far more than we would like. The Shaftlands just got out of a war a few years back. Both Sargent Tibbs and The Colonel here served several tours."
"I guess I figured there would be wars here... But this place is so calm compared to the world I came from..."
Hal seemed to straighten up at this, his deep brown eyes glinting with an unhidden curiosity. He was a man of war and labor- now happily retired from his Military duties- who had fought many conflicts before being appointed to Colonel. It was a passing interest of his to hear about other countries and how they approached war, so your offhanded comment interested him.
"Are there many battles where you are from?"
"Unfortunately. It feels like I grew up where there is always some kind of war or the threat of war. The military where I lived was always locked in some conflict. Never seemed to be a shortage of violence at least."
While you chatted in an idle manner with Hal, the one you assumed to be Tibbs suddenly straightened up. His feline eyes were fixed on something or someone behind you and his behavior immediately alerted Hal who stood suddenly to react. You weren't confused or guessing for very long as the pair quickly stopped whoever was approaching.
"How dare you?? That's my Baby Bird and I will not be kept from her!"
The ever familiar voice of Crowley had you standing as well, quietly approaching the pair who were blocking the Crow from you. For how timid Tibbs seemed when you first met him, the feline refused to move from where he stood protecting you. Despite his seemingly anxious behavior, it was more than apparent why Eric trusted him so wholeheartedly.
"It's alright," you interjected, Hal's eyes snapping to you as you spoke despite the way he didn't move or back down, "he's with me. You can let him through."
The pair relaxed immediately at this, stepping aside so Crowley could approach despite his ruffled feathers. Though he was obviously displeased at being stopped, he didn't seem to take further issue with the pair now that they had backed off. If anything, he was keen to hold out a letter to you to take.
The letter itself was bent at the corner, and almost seemed like someone had tried to open it without success. As you examined it, you could practically feel Crowley sweating from stress before you glanced up at him. The Crow was doing everything in his power to not look at you, letting you know he was the reason the envelope looked as haggard as it did.
"... Crowley, did you try to open my letter?"
"... No."
"Are you lying to me?"
"... Maybe."
The ghost of a chuckle almost escaped you as both annoyance and amusement fought to be the dominant emotion. Of course Crowley would be nosey and want to know what the response was. Oddly, it seemed he hadn't read your letter that you sent to Lilia, but had tried everything in his power to open the reply letter. He was very clearly unsuccessful in his attempts.
"Did you open my letter to Lilia?"
"Of course not," the crow ruffled indignantly in response, "I could never betray your trust like that!"
"But you tried to open his reply to me?"
"Of course. I won't fuss over what you send, but those ruffians had better mind what they say in response!"
You almost laughed. Almost.
Crowley was quick to sit down, you and the two guards Eric had hired following suit. Once you were settled, the envelope easily gave way to your fingers, having no resistance whatsoever. Lilia must have used some kind of magic to seal the letter so only the recipient could open it. As you pulled out the page and scanned over it, you could feel the others leaning closer to try and see what the page said.
"What's wrong, Peahen?"
Your expression must have shown your displeasure as your eyes scanned over the words written in that simple script. Lilia believed that it was exactly as you had feared. Your Dragon instincts were beginning to beg for attention and the winter season was only exacerbating that fact for you.
"My season."
"... I thought Humans didn't have a mating season?"
"They don't. Dragons do."
Vil stayed in silence for a moment as he processed what you had told him, surprise painting his face. It made sense, even if he didn't like it. You weren't exactly Human any more, and those new instincts were rearing their head into view.
"Do you need to..?"
"Not yet. At the moment, it is just a suggestion, not a demand. I fear as winter continues, that may change."
You bit your lip, thinking about what you would do if the urge became too much. At the moment, it was an annoyance that could be ignored. Further into winter- and according to Lilia- that is likely to change. If it became unbearable, you didn't know what the best option would be as far as partners were concerned.
Naturally, Rook was high on your list simply because of how hard he tried to respect you during his own rut. No doubt he would be a compassionate lover who would be quick to satisfy you. The only problem with settling on Rook would be how quickly Riddle would out your secret and how that would likely push Malleus into an overblot.
Your second option was Malleus himself, but that also came with complications. Malleus was in his own rut, he would very likely be driven to do everything in his power to impregnate you. He would also very likely be a satisfying lover who would bring you to the brink of sanity with pleasure. Perhaps, if you could find a reliable contraceptive, the Dragon may be your best option.
The more you thought of it, the more warm your body felt. ... Maybe you would have to have a chat with Rook or Vil about something close enough to pleasure without full mating.
Unbeknownst to you, Neige could smell the arousal clinging to your body. His nostrils flaring as he imagined laying with you or even getting to have a taste of you. Would he really be okay being relegated to the sidelines for much longer? Maybe he could parlay with your Dragon instincts, no matter how small they currently were.
He just had to wait for the best possible chance to win you over...
Greetings! I wanted to drop by and say I thoroughly enjoy all the content you have made for your HAE au. It's like looking a buffet of all my favorite foods and getting to sit down and FEAST. Sending all of my love and appreciation for your work ❤️.
I appreciate all your kind words so much! Sometimes I do feel like I have lost a bit of inspiration or desire to write, but genuine comments like this definitely cheer me up and help me keep writing.
Was Fortuna Maleficia's best friend? I noticed that in your newest chapter that she was more angrier than Malleus and Maleficent as soon as they saw Fortuna's horn.
Spoilers for chapter 100+
Fortuna grew up with Malefica. They both were childhood friends and cared for one another deeply. I'll go into greater detail regarding her relationship with Fortuna later in the story.
Idk if the box is open for yapping, if not, delete this, but:
Im super sick rn and im imagining the yandere hae! Monsters trying to make soup, and like, I feel like SOME of them might not so do bad, but none of them can do better than chucking a bunch of chopped veggies in a clear broth the human made before falling ill
Like I could see Epel somehow getting his hands on willow bark and brewing it in a soup cuz it makes something like asprin, and relieves a bit of pain
But if the human wants a specific soup (congee/jook is my go to) they’re just shit outta luck cuz there is no way any of them can follow the specific instructions from a delirious sick human 😭
The only saving grace the Human would have is Sam or Papa Hades. They both are capable of cooking and will do what they can to please the poor ill Human.
Sam is a Shadow Folk hailing from a land covered in magical darkness. Everything that grows in his homeland is poisonous unless thoroughly cooked over a flame. Most culinary dishes don't leave his homeland because cooking is not typically needed in most of Twisted Wonderland, and most Shadow Folk don't leave due to the intense harm sunlight and even moonlight can cause to them. Sam is an oddity for leaving home and having enough magical energy to create a barrier around himself to withstand light.
Papa Hades is/was the patron protector of Humans, so he learned to cook from the precious Humans he cared for. He can follow instructions well enough, so long as the Human knows how to make what they want. If they can communicate the recipe to him, Hades will do all he can to make it for them.

"We have some time before our meeting with The Colonel and Tibbs, was there anything you wanted to do until then?"
Eric asked gently, all while walking on your right side. To your left was Vil, your arm resting on his as he had insisted to be the primary lead in showing you around Maquillaville. Neige and Rook also followed closely behind, the two quietly chatting now that you had effectively paired them up for this film festival. Bringing up the rear of the group was Clay and Crowley, the pair on constant watch for anyone or anything that may be watching you.
Vil had made a show of kicking Neige form your side, swopping in and easily brushing Neige off with his wings in a careless act. He was a jealous creature and you knew he had a chip on his shoulder regarding Neige. For as beautiful and popular as Vil was around the world, he always felt a kind of rivalry with the Dove he so strongly disliked. Regardless of if it was a result of his own pride or of the natural competition between male Harpies, Vil disliked Neige.
Neige didn't seem to have that same dislike, instead almost seeming like he was casting longing glances towards you and the rival male. Part of you wondered how much Neige was looking at you versus Vil. It truly seemed like Neige wanted the both of you instead of having to choose. Though he didn't complain about being relegated to Rook's date, he still showed an incredible interest to your own pairing.
Neige was just happy he got to be with your little group. The way he caught himself repeatedly swooning over you would have been embarrassing if only Neige believed he was doing something wrong. To admire you and Vil- even at a distance- was the same to the Dove as admiring art in a museum. Vil's colors and meticulously crafted appearance paired with your otherworldly beauty and visage. It burned for him to admit, but you two were a fantastic pair. No doubt any chicks the two of you have would grow to be the most beautiful Harpies in history.
He liked Rook well enough, the rugged blond Drider still rambling about the movies he enjoyed, but Rook was not you. Your voice, your soft touch, your smile. Everything about you made a warmth bloom in Neige's chest that he couldn't ignore. Even as Rook continued on cheerfully, Neige only had eyes for you and Vil.
He was watching a fairytale, but for the first time he wasn't the lead.
Everyone deserved their flowers, Vil more than others given how often he got the short stick even in acting roles, but Neige was unaccustomed to not receiving that praise. It didn't matter so much to him before, but seeing Vil captivate you and take your attention had jealousy burning a pit in the Dove's stomach. If he could only find a way into that beautiful pairing, he would be happy in life. What he wouldn't give to have Vil look at him in affection and not hate, seeing you smile at the both of them and praise them so sweetly.
Perhaps Neige needed to talk to Vil privately and offer himself as a toy to the more colorful Harpy for your affections.
Rook was just happy to have so many interesting beauties around him. He had already experienced the true bliss that was you taking care of him in his heightened state of his rut. He had a fantastic view of beautiful Vil smiling with you on his arm. He had beautiful Neige as his unofficial 'date' for the festival. He had you so wonderfully holding everything together. He even had his hero and mentor Clay proving just why he had the reputation he did.
Rook had everything that could possibly make him happy right here. As he scuttled along, he noticed the way Neige tried to keep an eye on both you and Vil. The smaller Harpy was struggling to watch his own talons and watch you two, so Rook decided to offer his services.
"Roi du Neige, might I offer my carapace as a seat for you? It would ease your efforts to view Roi du Poison and Mon Trickster."
"Oh? There's really no need! I was just making sure they were safe and-"
"Non, do not mistake my words for chiding. I too enjoy watching such a lovely pair together. Ils sont d'une beauté saisissante. I am happy to help you."
"I... If you don't mind, I certainly wouldn't be unhappy..."
Rook chuckled gently, his smile warm and free of judgement. Without another word, Rook gently pulled Neige onto his wide arachnid abdomen, hearing the clicking of cameras from nearby. He knew he would be under scrutiny for every step he took among his beautiful company. He only hoped they were getting beautiful pictures of all of you, and hoping they would share such lovely images. Rook would have to add those photos to his own personal shrine.
To be honest, your shrine had long outgrown the shrines he had for Neige and Vil. It had once been fairly even among the two, but your very existence had outshined the Harpies in Rook's heart. It was only fitting that your shrine was larger than the others. The last Human, such a striking beauty that captivated him in so many ways, filled his heart with a longing he had known but never drowned in so deeply before.
"Hm?"
"Something wrong, Roi du Neige?"
"It's just... There's only one who ever calls me by that name, and only ever in letters. Are you... Are you perchance the 'R' who sends me so many kind letters?"
Rook felt his entire body burn in embarrassment at being caught. His fair cheeks flushing a deep red as he tried to play it off despite knowing he had been found out. It was true, Rook was Neige's second follower out of countless, and he had been present for almost every live performance. It was well known that Rook was a purveyor of beauty, often supporting those he finds beautiful, but to be caught by the monikers he often bestowed upon others made him burn inside.
"Ah, it seems I have been discovered and unmasked. You are quite perceptive, Roi du Neige."
Neige actually smiled at this, pulling his gaze away from you and Vil to look at Rook quizzically. Those letters from 'R' were often some of the kindest and most uplifting letters he had received from fans. Whenever he felt down about himself or what he was doing, he would read those letters and find the will in him to keep going. He had wanted to meet his mysterious pen-pal face to face for quite a while, and now he was riding upon their back as they trailed after you.
"I can see why (Y/n) chose you, Rook. Between you and Vil, I doubt I'll draw her eye."
"Do not be so harsh on yourself, Roi du Neige. Mon Trickster is a very selective woman. Not just anyone could turn her gaze. Many long for her attention and do all they can to gain her favor, but very few have been selected. She has selected you as one of her trusted guards and friends, very few can say that. Out of all those others she has met, you can count yourself among her chosen few."
"Goodness only knows why she chose me at all. I know I can't ever be one of her mates... I don't think I can really compare to Vi or to the princes that follow her everywhere."
"I can see your beauty, Roi du Neige, I know fair (Y/n) can see it too. You judge yourself as a Harpy, but there are more than just Harpies in this world. Mon Trickster has a beautiful heart that has an incredible capacity for kindness and care. She will see that beauty in you, I think. She is no Harpy. She is something entirely different and she doesn't measure your worth the way a Harpy would. Her interests and preferences are solely her own."
Neige couldn't help but feel a kind of fluttering in his chest in response to Rook's words. The Drider spoke so highly of him despite how drab he was overall. It was really the first time someone had been so direct about their view of him and it was refreshing. Most focused on Neige's acting roles, wealth, or charity work. He knew he wasn't a prime candidate for attracting a mate, and he had never felt such a strong connection with someone the way he did with you.
To think you wouldn't immediately see his boring colors and leave set a kind of hope burning in his chest. It was true, of course. Why would you- a Human- try to judge Neige as a Harpy? Maybe his chances weren't so abysmal after all?
As Neige considered everything, his eyes trailed down to Rook. Truthfully, the Drider was a lovely specimen. His fur incredibly soft, and his arachnid body well taken care of. It was clear Rook was thriving under Vil's tutelage and Neige felt his heart almost skip a beat. To think, he had longed to meet 'R' in the flesh only to learn his mysterious supporter was one of your trusted guards.
Perhaps he could get a chance to win your heart through Rook?
You obviously trusted the Drider quite a lot, even allowing the blond male back to your dressing room when Neige had been relegated to waiting outside. On top of that, you had even directly asked him to bring Rook along as his date for the Festival. Perhaps he could prove himself worthy of Rook and that would prove him worthy of you?
While Neige and Rook talked, quickly finding an easy rhythm in conversation, you, Vil, and Eric had some time to chat.
"So, Eric, why didn't Vil take your last name? Given what that awful woman Calliope did, I would have figured you would change his last name to match yours."
"I didn't want to put him through more stress by all the legal proceedings. Besides, Vil is a determined young male, he wouldn't want to ride my coattails and get a leg up just because he shares a name with me. He is determined to reach fame himself, so I will support him in his decision."
Vil somewhat fluffed his chest-feathers at this, his purple top cut low enough that those feathers were on clear display as he happily soaked up his father's words. It made sense. Vil was a self-starter type and wouldn't wait around for others to carry him through life. If Vil Schöenheit wanted something, he would struggle and work until he got it. That's just who Vil was as a person.
"Why the interest in names, Peahen? Shopping around for a new one to call your own? I am happy to share my own name with you."
Vil teased gently, his smile coy as he looked at you from the corner of his eye. Where he was giving you somewhat of a hard time, he was also being serious to some extent. He would agree the moment you asked if you wanted his name. Of course, he may want all the benefits of being permanently mated to you so he can give you his name, but just knowing you two shared a last name would be enough for now.
"It's more along the lines of wanting to get to know you better, Vil. I mean, sure, I have seen some of the darkest parts of your life, but you are more than your trauma. I certainly think you are an impressive man, and incredibly beautiful, but those are superficial. I'd rather know the Harpy behind the movies."
Vil visibly responded to this, his crest rising up to stand at attention as his tail began to shake. It was as if Vil was trying to fight his every instinct that demanded he do his mating dance for you, trying to force it down. Even as the two of you walked together, Vil only had eyes for you.
"Honestly," Eric spoke up when Vil failed to respond, "that is incredibly mature of you, (Y/n). Not many are willing to look past the profession. Most think 'movie star' and have preconceived ideas in their minds about us. I can certainly see why Vil speaks so highly of you."
"Oh? And here I figured he would refer to me as a 'Spudling' like the rest!"
Vil huffed indignantly at this, frowning somewhat at the notion of being so insulting to you. Sure, he called others such names- especially those unpolished first years- but you? No. Vil couldn't possibly deign to insult you, not after you had proven your beautiful heart and saved his life.
"Of course not. Someone with beauty like your own deserves much higher praise. You saving my life has certainly endeared me to you more than I can ever convey."
As you all chattered together, Grim began rapidly wiggling in your arm. He had been mostly content to be carried around, but something had obviously caught the young feline's attention. It was enough of a sudden wriggle that you had to stop just to get a better grasp on him.
"Goodness, Grim! What has gotten into you?"
"Do you smell that, Mama? It smells like when you make us food! Are there others that cook like you do?"
"There are some others that cook like I do! Trey's whole family bakes, so I could see some artisans in Maquillaville who cook."
"Can we go see what they have? Can we, Mama? It smells so good!"
You chuckled gently, adjusting the chubby little feline to hold him better. He was actively purring and looking around to find the food his nose promised. He was such a young little thing, no doubt he was not satisfied with no snacking during the day. Grim had gotten more than a little spoiled thanks to you, and he was eager to be fed.
"I'm sure we can tolerate a little stop. Certainly wouldn't be a good sample of what Maquillaville has to offer if you didn't partake in the food."
Eric happily led your group towards that enticing smell, coming across a rather quaint little tea shop. Teas- unlike cooked food goods- was still fairly popular among the species and had clearly made a name in Maquillaville.
The shop itself was tucked among the many that lined the halls of the extravagant almost outdoor mall area. From clothing shops, to trinkets, to books, to little cafés, everything anyone could desire could be found. It was obviously all high end, even the decorating flowerpots seemed to be thematically selected for color to match the shop. A mix of whites, golds, purples, blacks, and reds adorned the relaxed eatery all around you, complimented by the array of flowers out front.
You didn't dare ask the price of anything offered, figuring it to be so obscenely expensive given the clientele were directors, actors, popular musicians, and other such wealthy folk. This was the kind of shop where if you needed to ask the price, you were not welcome.
As you browsed the surprising selections of drinks and what appeared to be an attempt at scones, all eyes had turned to you. Customers, many of whom were famed stars, took note of your unusual appearance and the fact you arrived with four well renowned individuals. Vil, Neige, and Eric were certainly all star power on their own, but the most well known Bounty-hunter in the world elevated it all the more.
Less than subtle photos were being snapped, conversations buzzing about you and the little feline held in your arms. Even the cashier was stood in stunned silence and awe. All of those around you were coming to terms with the fact that you- the sought after and lusted for Human- just walked through the doors.
You knew others were staring as you stood and examined the selection. You also knew that your own guards were keeping a close eye on the many who observed you. If any of these beasts wanted to try you, they would have to answer to your star-studded guards.
"Is there anything you are looking for in particular, Miss (Y/n)?"
Hearing your name from the mouth of a stranger was an odd thing, especially since you didn't know this beast. They were an odd creature that seemed like an enlarged turtle with a duck-like beak, vaguely reminding you of the Japanese Kappa. The voice was masculine in tone and pitch, but you didn't want to assume anything given how unfamiliar you were with the species.
"Just seeing the selection. It is less for me and more for-"
"It's for me! Mama said we could come here and I could get a snack!"
Grim was still wriggling and purring in your arms, eagerly using his paws to point at whichever one drew his interest. He squeaked, purred, and made various sounds of interest as you let him look over his choices. Eric was the one to walk up behind you, seeing you struggle with the over excited little feline.
"How about we get a few of each for you two to sample? I know you always cook your meals, it would be a wonderful chance to give feedback trying the pastries of others. As rare as cooking is in Twisted Wonderland, it is more prevalent here given the high end clientele that often stays around Maquillaville. Maybe you could even have a conversation with my staff to see if we can't get some cooking utensils in place for you."
"That sounds like a great idea, if you don't mind, Eric. I can talk with Papa Hades about creating a few more replicas of what I have back at Night Raven College. I'm certain I can show the staff enough to teach them to cook consistently."
Though you didn't know it, everyone around you was keenly taking an interest in your words. It was true that cooking was somewhat more prevalent in Maquillaville, but the idea of having something every day and night that has been cooked sounded like something reserved for the extremely wealthy. Even the idea of places that slowly cooked food seemed like an incredibly popular and enticing concept.
As hungry eyes turned towards you- starved for your ideas, your body, and you presence- Vil decided to step in quickly and make his own claim more than apparent. His crest was fully displayed and even a few of his tail feathers stood up in what looked like a half-display. One wing gently wrapped around your back, the male Harpy making a show of pulling you to his chest as he examined the offerings In a bored manner.
"I doubt they can really compare to the quality of what you make, (Y/n), but it should keep Grim calm to try them."
Countless cameras and phones came up to start snapping pictures, Vil completely aware that others were photographing him. Where he would usually snap and become irate at such a blatant lack of respect, he wasn't going to stop them. The more photos they took of the two of you, the more Vil could control the narrative and public perception of him. He had a greater claim to your affections if the world believed the two of you were already mated.
He certainly wouldn't mind being your full mate instead of just a prospective mate.
As the cameras flashed and the shutters clicked, Neige watched on with an increasingly desperate pit forming in his stomach. He knew you had chosen Vil as a prospective mate, but he couldn't understand why he felt so angry at seeing Vil by your side and not him. His whole life he had fought to be recognized among the colorful Harpies surrounding him. Sure, non-Harpies found him beautiful and enjoyed his performances, but their affection meant nothing compared to your attention.
He had never longed for recognition like he was now. What had once been a warm and fuzzy feeling at the attention of others had become a yawning pit of desire for you to look at him. He would trade so much just to be able to count himself among those you cared for. Simple guarding wasn't enough to fill that emptiness inside of him.
Having grown up as an orphan, Neige had always been searching for that sense of belonging. After years of chasing what seemed like a far away dream, he found belonging and comfort in your presence with your cherished attention on him. How could he ever go back to a life that you weren't the center of?
Jealousy burned poisonously in his stomach as he stared at Vil posturing next to you. It should be him. While that pit only grew, you remained unaware. Your expression cheerful while you were leaning into Vil and happily feeding the pastries to an exited Grim.
How could Neige possibly win you over when you were clearly so happy already?
When the rainbow babies grow up, will there play Spell drive with their parents?
Leona's cubs absolutely will. They have a great ability to play and Leona makes damn sure that his cubs can eventually win against everyone else's young. Once they are old enough to comprehend the rules and use magic, they are being taught how to play Spelldrive.
Vil and his chicks are less interested, but he will be damned before he lets Leona outshine him. Rook will also happily join in and let the Driderlings learn how to play.
Azul's girls are not interested other than Cerulina, so she will play, but the others will not.
Most of the kids are happy to play and learn how, but the Husbands of the Harem always play far more gentle with the younglings. Against one another, they are brutal and vicious.
If some of the characters from the HAE universe were allowed to choose what style clothing the Human would wear for a day, what would they choose?
Mainly did the Housewardens because there are 22+ cast members. If you have a specific fella in mind, make another question specifically for them and I will answer.
Vil would choose something colorful that matches his colors. He doesn't care if it had to be a dress or pants, so long as they have his colors and are decorated with their feathers.
Leona wants the Human in his clothes. He doesn't care that his clothes don't fit, they have his scent and it will cover the Human in his scent.
Riddle wants the Human covered up except for their face. He doesn't want anyone being able to see their soft skin other than him. He is quite the prude and finds it highly sensual for the Human to be scantily clad. Booty-shorts would send him into orbit.
Azul wants the Human in nothing at all. Most Mer folk don't wear clothes, and he finds the bare body of the Human to be the most beautiful thing he can imagine. No need for clothes to cover up their natural beauty.
Malleus wants the Human dressed in his scales and his colors. Black, vivid green, and purple. If he could give them faux versions of his horns, he would. No claim is clearer than his very scales decorating his beloved.
Kalim really wants the Human to be in whatever they find comfortable, but he will be adding jewels, bangles, and any other kind of jewelry he can find. He wants his beloved Human to be shiny and comfy, so he will find a happy medium.
Idia wants the Human to dress up in one of two ways depending on his mood at the time. On one hand, he wants them to be dressed in something cute, short, and showing plenty of skin for him to feel up and pet as he wishes. On the other hand, he wants to see his lover dressed in the traditional Shinigami wedding gown. Long shadowed fabric that shrouds and covers, making his darling such a precious little gift for him to unwrap as he desires.
Hi, so I have a question (and I don't know if you already addressed this cuz I'm kinda behind and still need to catch up to the story).
Will the twst cast ever get to see Mc as an apex predator?
Because (earth)humans at their core are pursuit predators with stamina that is only lesser to one (the wolf), amazing tracking abilities -despite having a comparably weak sense of smell-, creativity and great aim. And if push comes to shove even untrained people can do some impressive and scary feats.
Like will they ever realize that without magic they would have been screwed against humans?
Spoilers for Fleur City arc of the HAE
It will happen eventually and has partially happened already.
When the Human was kidnapped by Night Fae seeking to use them as a breeding mare, the Human slaughtered them and lit their camp on fire. They have and will kill if it means their life or Grim's life will be saved.
Idia knows well that Humans can and will be horrifying if put in enough stress, Hades having deeply educated him on this fact. Lilia has seen what a Human running on adrenaline and sheer force of will can do.
The Human even THREW Riddle when he Overblotted. Yes, they heavily strained most of their muscles with their hysterical strength, but Riddle is aware the Human is stronger than they seem.
Humans are pursuit predators. They follow something at a leisurely pace until the thing they are following exhausts itself or dies. Humans are trackers and followers. Smart enough to make traps and potentially cut off their prey even if their prey is faster than them. Humans are the animal world equivalent of a terminator. They can swim, they can climb, they can throw with an accuracy most animals cannot, they follow something like a never ending hunt until the animal collapses from stress or exhaustion.
In the HAE, Humans- those raised among monster species- were effectively domesticated. They rarely fought, they were mostly removed from their base instincts. They could hunt, but had little reason to do so.
The Human of Night Raven College is basically a captive raised lynx being compared to housecats. The other Humans of the past were housecats, capable of damage, but unlikely to do it as they were raised under the belief that they could not fight, only showing such feats in extreme stress. The Human is a lynx raised in captivity, used to the advancements their own world has made and not the best hunter, but very capable of savaging those that earn their ire.
The beastly fellas will eventually learn the Human is no domestic feline, but one that is still very much a threat while being removed from pure base animal instincts. Those instincts exist, they just really haven't had to use them half as much.

They have magic that mimics fireworks- ie. Lights in the night sky, different color lights- but not actual fireworks that explode.
The percussive force of explosions startle and can hurt the ears of most species given their existing sensitivities. Explosions in the HAE au have not been crafted nor perfected because of the severe negative impact they have on most species.
Honestly, he would start excitedly squealing and tapping his hooves like a fan-girl getting to meet their idol if you kissed him. Kiss his horn and it is game over for him.
