Sorry if this is a dumb question but: What would you say the appeal of El x Amanda as a ship is? The pairing has been really growing on me but I can't really articulate why
omg please, this isn’t a dumb question at all. i think my favorite part of the two of them together is that when amanda says john and the reverse bear trap helped her, eleanor very genuinely believes her. i think eleanor knows full well who amanda is, and has done as much digging as she could for all the gory details, but i also think (initially, at least) eleanor does actually believe in john/jigsaw’s method. obv for the most part, she’s just a weird little bitch who is totally into the nasty, awful, grisly crime details, but i think she also believes there might actually be something to what john/jigsaw is saying.
for the most part, everyone amanda dealt with after the reverse bear trap very obviously pitied her, even as she insisted that no, they’re not listening, he helped her. and when eleanor and amanda meet for the first time, amanda definitely brushes her off and dismisses her as just another freak who wants to say they met the woman who survived jigsaw’s game (and yes i do think el is an absolute flustered mess and just goes “i saw you punch that reporter when she tried to interview you and it was so hot”) but then eleanor says that she believes amanda, and that’s when amanda realizes there might be something there
as their relationship progresses, eleanor sees how amanda has actually been affected by everything, and i do think she ultimately comes to resent john for what he’s done to her. but even then, she’s never just another person who pities amanda. she tells her that yes, she believes john helped her, but that amanda has to give herself credit, because john may have spurred her into action, but amanda is the one who had the strength to finally begin to work through her addiction and find something she loves and is passionate about (and if both of their passions happen to be for intricate murder traps? well,)
basically i think eleanor succeeds where john fails. john comes to amanda after the rbt and says “this is something i did and now you are forever indebted to me”, whereas eleanor hears amanda say the rbt helped her, and she says that yes, she believes her, but that amanda is the one who was strong enough to get through it, and to get through her addiction and her ptsd and everything that happened. she actually sees her as a person, as someone who is strong and who is worthy of love
and also they’re hot and they murder people together ❤️
