So I saw something the other day that made me go "huh" about what shipping actually means - somebody was talking about how they don't really ship something but they are compelled by the relationship and are interested in seeing it. And I did a double-take because to me, that would be shipping it! But then they clarified that they weren't sexually interested in the characters and their relationship and that's what they meant.
Reader, I have never considered that as the reason to ship something before.
This also made me go huh, because sometimes I write stuff where I think people assume it's a sexual interest of mine (there's another poll I think about whether sexual context is always appropriate to tag if there's an assumption it's a consensual romantic relationship context but that's for another time...)

Today I found out that my former boss, a woman as brilliant and inspirational as she was terrifying, passed away. She was so instrumental to where I am in my career. She once told me I was a beautiful (legal) writer, and it is a complement that I will cherish forever because she held everyone to incredibly high standards, including herself. I knew she was ill and I don't think she wanted a lot of attention or sympathy but I still hate that I didn't send her a card.
