"More maintenence?"
"Well yes. See the thing is, it needs to be regular to be effective."
"But it was done only a couple of days ago, wasn't it?"
This guard. He irritated his superior. He was the only one that bothered questioning anything.
"Sir- are you sure they're really doing maintene-"
"YES!" The Englishman hissed. "The official answer is yes! But if you don't stop irritating me, you'll be the first to officially find out where Bancroft really went!"
"Where is he?"
"Temporarily moved. We need to do regular maintenence on the cell to make sure it's still EMP proof."
"But he has an inhibitor?"
"True, but do you really want to take that chance? Do you know for sure he can't fry it?"
"Well...no..." said the guard. And he let it go. Why would he bother to question his superior?

Both Holtzmann Enterprises and W.I.S.E. are at the point of their existence that both can function without his physical presence, He can run either of them from any of his locations in the world, in truth itâs how Dietrich has managed to keep his alternative identity a veiled mystery. That said he currently finds himself in his homeland, enjoying the home in which he feels most comfortable. A comfort however that today would seem short lived.Â
Given both his legitimate and less than legitimate lines of work all his homes are securely protected. Motion triggers the remote targeting systems and they rise from the ground, guns trained on the intruder. Dietrich of course takes his time to walk to the monitors that display a live feed, after all thereâs nothing to worry about, one wrong move and said intruder ceases to exist. His brow arches upwards as zooms in on the familiar face. Over the intercom comes his voice. âI thought you were dead.âÂ
Itâs with that the defenses lower back into the in ground resting place, Dietrich opening the front door to see his old friend, âElijah.âÂ
On the outside Bancroftâs response to the security was to hold his hands up, though only at chest height in a calming gesture rather than surrender. He had known the other man had plenty of security; why wouldnât he? Bancroft could sense it all as heâd approached and could easily had fried it, but that was an expensive and time consuming thing to fix (yet he was still tempted to do so next time, just to mess with his old friend).
Internally, there was a brief moment of fear though, while he waited. What if the man wasnât actually home and there was no one to call off the weapons? Then he would have to fry the system, unless he wanted to be shotâŚ
I thought you were dead.
Bancroft looked offended for a moment then, after pausing to think about it, shrugged and tucked his gloved hands into his coat pockets.

âIt would seemâ not, Dietrich,â it was clear in the way Bancroft said his name that he wasnât happy. âOf course I am not dead! Why would I be?â he knew exactly why one would assume him dead, but that didnât stop him from his usual indirect way of speaking.
Whereas surely most people would appear tense given the situation Dietrich is the epitome of calm, perhaps a touch annoyed given the fact no prior word was given to either being alive or his stopping by but even still the other man leaned against his doorframe, arms crossing over his chest as he titled his head to the side in a slight show of amusement. Itâs almost charming really, the soft smile that sits on his lips as he watches Bancroftâs hands lower from their initial level of surrender.Â
His smile only widens at the way in which his friend says his name, itâs touchy and well they were close enough friends that annoyance with one another was fairly common. âSurely you donât need me to elaborate on my assumption.â He looked at him and pushed away from the doorframe to step inside, a silent invitation for his friend to come in.Â
Did he need to elaborate? No. Project SABRE had failed, thanks to one SHIELD agent in particular, two if he counted the annoying one who'd thrown everything off.
Bancroft had been arrested and stuck in a high security medical room with his heart condition aggravated after Hartell turned on him. Yes, with the long absence after such a failure, the obvious assumption was that he had died because it certainly sounded better than being arrested and stuck in a cell.
"No. That will not be necessary, thank you." It was not a polite 'thank you' as he stepped inside past his friend, but one that was clearly a 'I'm annoyed and this is the end of the conversation'. Not that he expected Dietrich to actually listen to that.
"Please tell me you at least have some decent tea? All my good stuff had to be abandoned in my office."
Ah yes, it's 'Damn it, Sterling ruined everything' day...

the ability to create, shape, and manipulate electricity; a form of energy resulting in the existence of charged particles.
âI would like to know what makes you think I would even work for you!â Bancroft asked with a huff as the Correction Officerâs guards shoved him into a cell now that they had reached the Raft. âSurely there is more to this than just you thinking I deserve harsher punishment? What work do you mean anyway? Cleaning messes around here?â
Jacen laughed and shook his head. âOh, oh no. As much as Iâm sure you and your ego would hate a task as simple as cleaning, I have much more important tasks than that. If you donâtâŚâÂ
He tapped the screen of his watch a few times and brought up the hologram screen again. This time though, it showed security footage of one of the other prisoners. Bancroft frowned, stepping closer to the barrier that now separated him from the younger man and his security team.
âYou have that⌠that mercenary I once hired?â
âYes. Brandon Riggs,â Jacen replied. âI hear heâs rather mad that you left him behind when you were broken out of your first prison in SHIELD. That and he never got the promised pay as a result of you both being arrested.â
âYou would hand me over to him!â Bancroft realised. âBut he is a thug. He- he could kill me-â
âWith his strength? Oh I know. He probably could without it honestly. Old man like youâŚâ Jacen smirked as he watched Bancroft back away and sink down onto the bed, seeing as he didnât have a chair in his new cell.
â...so what is this work?â Bancroft eventually asked, his tone flat.
âYouâll see when I need you,â was all Jacen said before turning and leaving.

the transfer
Bancroft was sitting at his little table in his cell when they came, all armed and covered in insulated tactical gear, specially designed for dealing with electricity. He scoffed and rolled his eyes at the sight. They all knew heâd been stuck with an inhibitor cuff on for⌠what was it now? Nearly a year by now, surely. Maybe longer. Heâd lost track. There was no calendar to reference, just a clock on the wall outside his cell, visible through the reinforced window by the door.Â
Following the armed agents (soldiers really) was a youngish looking man, early(?) thirties Bancroft guessed. He wore a suit with a red tie; his dark, chin length hair neatly combed back. Normally the Suits that came in looked uncertain or at least a little timid when they saw Bancroft. This man however looked neither.Â
Bancroft didnât bother moving from his chair as they entered, instead just watching as a pair of guards entered, weapons with their illuminated accents identifying them as ICERS pointed at him. The other pair of guards waited outside the cell, but the suited man entered.Â
âGood evening,â he greeted Bancroft, casually taking the empty seat on the other side of the table. He had an English accent, somewhat softened by his time in the States.
âGood eveningâŚ?â Bancroft repeated slowly, carefully sounding it into a question.Â
âJacen Westmore,â the young man responded, holding out a business card, which he allowed Bancroft to look at, but not touch.Â
âTheâŚRaft?â Bancroft frowned after reading the manâs details. âSo you know-â
âYes, I work quite regularly with both SHIELD and Ross,â the younger man sighed, his tone suggesting it was a rehearsed response to a question asked of him a number of times before.
The Hydra agentâs frown only deepened in response to being cut off. âAnd what do you want with me?â
âOh, they havenât told you?â Jacen said as he tucked his card back into a pocket on the inside of his suit jacket. One corner of his mouth twitched, as if he were about to smirk but thought it better not to. âThe investigation against you, Pierce and the rest of your âProject SABREâ has been finished. Pierce of course is deceased so we only have you to hold accountable for the Project and your âŚextremely well-kept records are more than enough to incriminate you, even if the agent you targeted hadnât given his story. SHIELDâs legal department has sentenced you to Life -whatâs left of it anyway- in the Raft.â
âThe Raft?!â Bancroft suddenly rose from his seat, holding up a hand out of habit.
As soon as he started even raising his arm though, the two guards pointed their weapons at him. It was only because Jacen held up a hand to signal them to wait that Bancroft was still conscious to finish the movement.
âOh dear, been down here so long that youâve forgotten, have you?â He said quietly, his tone no longer professional but mocking. He pointed at Bancroftâs left wrist, where instead of a watch sat his inhibitor cuff. âIt must really hurt that big ego of yours, Iâm sure; No one around here to manipulate. No chance of zapping anyone who annoys youâŚâ
âI did not just âzapâ over small-â Bancroft started angrily.
âOh no?â Jacen raised an eyebrow and pushed up the end of one sleeve. He pressed a button on the side of the watch he wore and a holoscreen rose from the small device, Jacen reading Bancroftâs case file off the floating image. â...âClayton Weiss, Level 1 Agent from Internal AffairsâŚâ Held captive and murdered by you because he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time-â
âHe was annoying!â Bancroft snapped. âAlways making jokes like a little child!â
Jacen scowled at him. âThat is no justification for what you did. It certainly doesnât excuse the murder, or the repeated attempts to capture and manipulate SHIELD agents. Nor does it excuse the experiments you made records of, where you and Pierce reportedly pushed powered agents so far they wound up dead!âÂ
He switched off his holoscreen and rose from his chair. He was fairly thin, Bancroft guessed, but the younger man stood a little taller than he did (much to the electrokineticâs annoyance).
âYouâre lucky you got away with simply being locked in a cell!â Jacen hissed. âFrom what Iâve read of your records, not even the Raft is punishment enough for you.â
Before Bancroft could respond, he felt one of the guardsâ ICER shots hit him.Â
The next thing he knew, he was groggily lifting his head off the floor of a moving vehicle; his hands cuffed together. He huffed and let his head gently drop back onto the floor and laid there, glaring at both the handcuffs and the inhibitor that were locked around his wrists.Â
âOh good, youâre awake. We werenât sure we had the correct dosage.â
âWhat?â Bancroft shifted to sit slumped against the wall of the van, breathing heavily after the effort while both groggy and handcuffed. âYou⌠irresponsible little-â
âI really donât think youâre in a position to be insulting me Elijah,â Jacen casually pointed out. He then lowered his voice, not that anyone but his own guards were present.Â
It only occurred to Bancroft then, as the younger man got up from his seat that the van wasnât currently moving.
âI may be formally recognised as a Superhuman Corrections officer, but I do have interests outside of workâŚâ
âAnd why should I care?â
Jacen chuckled and walked over to crouch a short distance in front of Bancroft. âBecause Elijah; I was going to offer you a job.âÂ

Here at the Daily Bugle, we strongly disapprove of Mutants, Inhumans and all the other powered kinds causing destruction and mayhem across the world, especially here in New York.
Thatâs why I, J. Jonah Jameson am endorsing the newly founded PCU and their mission to end the threat before they end us.
The recent fights between powered groups have proved they canât be trusted to live among us peacefully; they canât even live with each other.
Registry, mandatory tracking and training is a must!

Questioning
Bancroft sat with a frown. The room was small and bright. All he had to look at was his hands, cuffed to the table. Still locked with the power inhibitor on his wrist that heâd been surprised with back in Canada (how could he possibly have been prepared for a damn ghost?!). It was that, or the so-called mirror in front of him that the Hydra agent knew was one of SHIELDâs two way mirrors.
Ironically, it was on the other side of the glass that he had first encountered Ray Hartell for the first time. Bancroft had heard about the Comms agent who had undergone Terrigenesis and had quickly found himself helping SHIELD with interrogations. Bancroft, as the then Head of recruitment and training for that base, had asked to be allowed to attend and observe.
Eventually, a female agent entered. Despite the inhibitor cuff, Bancroft noted she openly wore a holster with an ICER in it attached to the belt on her pantsuit.
âStill working here, are you?â Bancroft asked snidely. âThought they would have got rid of you after the first failed interview before I got away. What was your name again? Howdy? Hopeless?â
She was used to people trying to wind her up. They usually assumed that she would get too upset or scared and back off, or at least that she would forget she was waiting on an answer. She simply rolled her eyes.
âAgent Janine Hadley,â she replied calmly. âStill one of the top Legal Investigators here actually.â
And then there was the other, younger agent who entered the room.
âAnd a junior?â Bancroft laughed. âYou really think a junior agent will help you get your answers?â

- the capture and murder of @theghostofagentweiss
- Bancroftâs break out from his cell in SHIELD and escape to Canada
- the Canada incident involving the capture and neglect of Ray Hartell
If anyone has any particular questions for Bancroft, send them via ask and I will work them in!
