HOT TAKE (TW for EDs and body image issues)
Men with body image issues and EDs are never taken as seriously as they should be and it’s genuinely heartbreaking. Most guys that have them just think it’s normal to only eat a little bit of fruit or something before working out until their muscles fail. Or to obsess over how their face looks constantly and taking drastic measures to try and “fix” what other men (and some women) say is wrong with their looks. People wonder how the manosphere got so popular, well it’s because the people that make content relating to it manipulate and prey on vulnerable, unwell men that desperately need guidance with their insecurities and support when it comes to their mental wellbeing.
These men need a space where they are treated the same as women when it comes to body positivity and beauty (by that I mean how women are told they’re beautiful just the way they are and they don’t have to change in content that spreads awareness about insecurities/EDs. I am not referring to the equally horrible beauty standards that have existed for years because NOBODY deserves that.)
We need to pay attention to Men’s mental health and emotions just as much as we do when it comes to women. If we work with men to help them better express themselves and accept who they are, then we won’t have as many men with rage issues or issues with expressing their emotions properly.
I am saying this as someone who is a gay transgender man who has grown up knowing exactly what it is like to be both a young girl AND a teenage boy. I am NOT saying that women’s side is any less in this issue, but we ignore men’s side of it almost entirely ALL THE TIME. I really hope this doesn’t come off as misogynistic somehow because that is not my intention whatsoever. Take care of yourselves guys ❤️
