You do not owe anyone, not even yourself, a perpetually zen outlook or permanently sunny disposition.  You do not need to face each new setback, warning, or disruption with a smile, a mantra, or an addition to your list of gratitudes. 

If you are sad, if you are angry, if you are afraid, if you feel yourself on the edge of despair – that is not failure.  That is not overreaction.  Shit is weird as hell and it’s going to hit you in odd moments.  That’s okay.  It’s human, and it’s expected.

Let yourself feel this shit.  Don’t beat yourself up about it.  You’re not doing anything wrong.  This is how these things are going to feel.  That’s all there is to it.

This isn’t going to stop you, and it hasn’t stopped you, and it won’t stop you.  You don’t need to be okay to keep going.  You just need to keep going.  And you can keep going, even with all these feelings.

You don’t have to be calm about this.  It’s probably better that you aren’t, at least not all the time.
