My pen pal and I were going to buddy read Orbital but neither of us liked it so time to come up with something else! The last two books we read were Remarkably Bright Creatures (I hated and she liked) and Wuthering Heights (she hated and I was fine with).
I wasn't fond of Orbital either. The prose was very pretty and I normally like slice of life, but something wasn't clicking for me. I haven't yet read the other two, so no opinion lol.
I saw in the tags you're open to suggestions, can I get ask what kind of books you and her usually like?
In May I read four books:
The Art of Impactful Communication by Patrick King ⭐️⭐️½
City of Lies by Ramita Navai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Through Gates of Garnet and Gold by Seanan McGuire ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Night of the Living Cat Vol 2 by Hawkman and Mecha Roots ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ayyy I got some book mail, cat for scale
we’re so lucky that gilgamesh survived and is a banger. can you imagine if we found the oldest written human story ever recorded and it sucked balls.
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers
Chuck Wendig:
We can cut out the unnecessary parts, we can let artificial intelligence handle the rest, and all we have to do is feed it our Very Good Idea. We don’t even have to split the profits with some stupid fucking “author” anymore! We can just have ideas and that is all that matters! We’ll burp them up into the world, and an AI will run with them, creating only Necessary Fiction that has the Proper Ratios in it. A perfect narrative gumbo, every time. (Admittedly, with too many fingers and too much plagiarism.) WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY. Except, of course, you and me, we know that’s all bullshit, right? We know that stories are more than just their inception. Stories are the author. Stories are the execution. Stories are in the human experiences, the unexpected parts, and as Michel notes, the unnecessary portions. They’re the most flavorful bits. Everything isn’t just pure protein. The flavor is in the fat, okay? So, fuck off, AI.

RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

Hey ur recent post has a pic with a hijabi wearing a punk is not dead shirt and two older ladies who look mad...why is that? I completely disagree with Saudi women not being able to drive but what does that have to do with the topic?
That image is from Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi’s two-part graphic novel and animated film about growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution. She was a rebel and I’m using that image to represent female rebellion to Islamic restrictions.
The books are amazing, I can’t recommend them enough!
RIP Marjane Satrapi, everyone READ THE GRAPHIC NOVELS AND WATCH THE ANIMATED MOVIE!
I’m a huge comics fan, and these are top tier / GOAT level works.

Have you read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr., John Archambault and Lois Ehlert (1989)?

I've never heard of it
I had a dream that Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli were solving a murder mystery in a giant mansion. Legolas kept eating popcorn.
