Here what they look like without their chassis.

They're nebula-blobs held together by a core, which is their only and most vital organ. Cores often place where the head of their chassis should be. Without their chassis, their form will be all over the place and makes it harder for them to manipulate objects with great dexterity or strength, plus it also makes their core vulnerable.
