I can't get common blue out of my head

The great things about girls is that there are so many kinds!

(I initially imagined this as the cast, plus Kaufmo and Ribbit, getting to dress Jax up. Try to guess who's pick is who's!)

from a certain pov this argument holds up since yeah, the rest of the characters are very reactive and static kinda. they are all so Nice and Unproblematic. but the characters' purpose is not only to just be likeable, relatable and pitiable. aren't they supposed to have flaws and goals, be proactive, drive the story forward, clash, create conflict, be obstacles to each other? Jax is the one who gets a backstory, one that informs her current worldview and decisions even, she is the one who brings Conflict and Friction to the story, the one who makes other characters lives worse.

(notably, these traits, that could be argued make for a good written character, are the same things that make people dislike Jax. which is pretty interesting. why is that?)

this is all pretty one-sided tho, right? to have one (maybe two but they barely actually interact anyway) well-written flawed character in a cast full of very nice barely-deep "cardboard cutouts"?

so TLDR i think potentially the cast would have improved with more evenly distributed levels of assholery. jax, stop hogging all the character flaws.
