First, Robin's clearly doubting herself, and her morality, in the wake of cheating on Kevin, and Barney is only confirming all of the bad things she's thinking about herself.

It also reflects how Barney loves Robin as an extension of himself, instead of as her own person. He likes her because in her he sees someone who will accept him.

Thinking about how that phrasing is manipulative and demeaning...
