so ik youve probably abandoned Home Away From Home atp and that's okay!!! I just wanted to know if reader ends up going with Wally to Home or stay in the real world.. and if Home, then, how??
Ah, yes, unfortunately I don't have it in me to finish Home Away from Home and I do sincerely apologize to you. I'm more than happy to tell you what I had planned for the conclusion!
Spoilers below:
Mama comes home from the hospital and spends the next couple of days hanging out with Wally and Eddie, helping them both settle down and showing Eddie that the human world is not full of people who only want to hurt him and exploit him for who he is.
This serves a dual purpose. 1, it helps the puppets understand that they are safe and not going to be abused anymore. 2, it collects happy memories, which Mama needs to send them back to Home.
Dorelaine brought Wally to the human realm by sacrificing things that gave him intense emotional satisfaction. Awards. First Editions. His first blueprints for Wally Darling. That's why he only had one good attempt left for summoning a new puppet, and that was going to be Frank because he's got an exploitable niche for television, which is bugs.
In order for Mama to get the puppets back to Home, they'd also have to make a huge emotional sacrifice. Something that brought them immense joy. Something that makes them insanely happy.
When they've collected enough memories, they inform Wally and Eddie that they're gonna go back, now. And in order to do that, they sacrifice their memories of the two puppets. All the joy of teaching Wally to read and write, all the love they have for him, all the bright moments they had with Eddie after, all the drawings and photographs and extra sets of kid's clothing for them â it all gets given up.
Mama sends them off by singing the rhyme from Love You Forever, and when they open their eyes, the puppets are gone and they have no memory of what they were just doing. All they have is an empty home and a deep yearning for something they aren't aware of anymore.
Wally and Eddie return to Home. Their friends are overjoyed to have them back. Home is also incredibly relieved to have Wally back, and there's a celebration that lasts for days. The puppets share their experience in a watered-down way, not wanting to traumatize the others, and Eddie and Wally try to return to normal life again.
But Wally misses Mama terribly. He wants to be read bedtime stories, and learn more things with them, and cuddle his Mama and listen to the sound of their heartbeat. Eddie wants to hang out and play games, and exchange easy pleasantries, and exist peacefully with them again. Things are better, now, but there is a space inside each of them that knows something is missing.
Wally decides to sleep in Home. He never did it before because he'd never felt tired before, but this time he can manage it. He dreams of Mama. In Mama's subconscious, they dream of Wally. Even though their conscious memories of him are gone, their heart remembers.
In their dreams, they get to spend time together again like they used to. Every time they're about to wake up, they hug goodbye.
One day, Wally wishes he didn't have to tell Mama goodbye. Mama gets an idea. They can do the summoning ritual one more time. They just have to make a big enough sacrifice.
Mama goes to sleep once more, choosing to give up the life they've lived in the human realm, and wake up at Home with Wally in their arms, listening to their heartbeat with a huge smile.
And that's it! I'd have loved to write this into fruition but I lost steam and burnt out hard. I appreciate the love you have for the story, though! It brought me great joy to write when I had the motivation. đЎ
