the fact that Stede thwacks Izzy’s ass cos that’s what Ed “taught” him to do is just so funny to me
i am not immune to propaganda
thoughts are being thunk
really enjoyed doing these fanarts though because I used a different rendering techinque and different brushes for each one and it was a cool little experiment
posting this separately so it gets more attention idk
stede braiding ed's hair while ed reads one of stede's books
our flag means death
OFMD could have presented the culture of piracy as a queer antithesis to the toxically masculine cisheteropatriarchy of colonial society that Stede was attempting to escape from. But instead they chose to make the culture of piracy toxically masculine in its own right. Ed is just as trapped by the toxically masculine expectations of pirate society as Stede was by the toxically masculine expectations of upper class colonial society. This creates a parallel between Stede and Ed. They both try and escape their own worlds for each others.
However Stede does not truly find freedom from constraints of upper class colonial society through piracy and Ed does not truly find freedom from the constraints of pirate society through upper class colonial society. They find the freedom to be themselves through each other.

PRINTS
A5 prints on sturdy 250gsm silk paper. Orders ship worldwide beginning week of 3 July 2023 ⭐️
So, on my [redacted] rewatch of OFMD, I noticed that the cadence when Ed says "and tonight I'm supposed to kill... you" and when he says "what makes Ed happy is... you" is the same. The movement of his head is the same, the moment when he looks at Stede is in the same place in the phrase.
DJenks talked that one time about how he actually thinks the bathtub scene is the most intimate scene in the show, how these two people who are so closed off from others sit there and open themselves up to each other for the first time, and how beautiful that is. And I think Ed is confessing the same thing in both these moments.
Now, hear me out. They sound like opposite confessions, right? "I was trying to kill you" vs "I love you". But they're both saying "I love you". It's just in different ways.
"Love of a pet makes a man weak."
"You don't belong in doggy heaven."
I couldn't do it. I was weak. I love you and it made me weak.
By episode 10, by "what makes Ed happy is you", it's changed, but it's not the opposite. It's not 'I love you and it made me strong'.
It's 'I love you and it set me free'.
in the bathtub, Ed is confessing it like a crime. On the beach, he confesses it like a truth. It's such a beautiful development.
Underrated ofmd lines that are made even better by their absolutely perfect delivery:
“One can only hope he was talking to us, in which case: WOW” (Stede, ep 3)
“You know Jackie got feelings too. Jackie is a person also.” (Spanish Jackie my beloved, ep 3)
“Captain, we’re a few hundred yards out from the revenge.” – “Nice. Very good. ~Love that~” (Izzy and Ed, ep 3)
“I probably have children, Bonnet. Maybe even several, who knows.” (Nigel ep 2)
“I am not asking you, I’m asking him” (Sass Master Roach ep 1)
“I’m forming a small search party to retrieve the hostages from their pee” (Stede ep 2)
The entire conversation in Ep 2 where Buttons is trying to convince Stede that cannibalism of course won’t be necessary until it’s “absolutely necessary” (which it won’t be, no way…) (also ep 2)
“You left me up there for 20 minutes. Not bloody optimal.” (Ed ep 6)
“Maiming’s different, love a good maim *big sniff*” (Ed ep 6)
“Well this is quaint… ly awful. (Chauncey ep 7)
“You were gonna stab me?! In the EAR HOLE?!?!” (Stede ep 10)
where's Stede? 🥺

new ofmd season 2 bts of Taika as Ed!
Screencaps that made me laugh x OFMD (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) 9
A preview of my portion of the Our Frames Mean Love project, in which a bunch of fanartists drew single frames from The Kiss in OFMD, which will be strung together to make an animation! I allowed the papercrafting demon that lives on my shoulder to convince me to papercraft one of them but I drew the line at both, so the other is a vector drawing.
I'm soooo excited to see the final product, everyone's put their all into each frame!
You who wish to conquer pain, you must learn what makes me kind❤️🗡
