head in my hands okay it took me over half a year to get this chapter finally finished haha oh man. there was a time when i wanted to have this fic finished before 8b. i am such a silly goose. anyway here are 16k of eddie in texas :)

About half a minute of silence, then some shuffling inside, and then the door opens to reveal his mother, wearing a flowery blouse and a frown on her face.  “Eddie?” she asks. “What are you doing here?” He forcefully relaxes his shoulders, keeps his expression decidedly neutral. “I’m here to pick up my son,” he says. His mother shifts her weight onto the foot closer to the doorframe, hand tense on the doorknob. The sliver of space between her and the frame grows ever so slimmer. “This is– sudden… Don’t you think it would be better if you talked to Chris about this before just showing up?” she replies, voice laced with concern.  Eddie can feel the beginnings of a shit-eating grin trying to tug on the corners of his mouth. He stays strong. “I did, actually.” Helena’s eyebrows shoot up. “Oh? And you didn’t think to let us know?”  The grin gains another millimeter or so before Eddie schools his face right back into deadpan.  “Didn’t realize we call ahead when we come to pick up family members.”

Jee-Yun thinks he's married to his straight and platonic best friend, and Buck cannot convince her otherwise.  It all comes down to this: a barbecue, dozens of cookies, and Jee inheriting her parents' love of messing with Buck.
