there’s also a lot Less blue collar jobs in the US as manufacturing has largely moved overseas. So many factory towns crumbled because corporations only cared about the cheapest labor.

lots of good commentary here but we cannot let "boomers spent a ton" stand. boomers were able to pay for an entire year of university by working full-time during the summer. it is beyond bullshit to insinuate boomers had to make anything like the kind of financial sacrifices the generations after them have had to make
