I feel like, because Ally is generally a very silly person and loves to do bits, a lot of people don't really comprehend how tragic Kristen's whole situation is by junior year and how that definitely is a underlying reason for her being Like That.
On her first day of school Kristen died, met her god, and was left with nothing but shattered expectations.
Kristen when she was just 14 realized she was 2 steps away from being indoctrinated into a religious cult that tried to kill her for their dooms day ritual and then had to uproot her entire life because her parents choose their hateful beliefs over her.
She then saves the world and suddenly has to establish a whole religion from scratch because she created a God after dying again without really knowing what that means.
She moves in with her girlfriend and ends up beefing things up. She tries to fix things but everything is bad. She craves structure and comfort and finds kinship with a goddess who was erased from history.
She tries to reach out and dies again. She then gets cornered by two gods who are trying to scam her. She gains an understanding of how divinity works that nobody else has. She could choose to go back to what is familiar and betray everything she is.
She is scared. She wants her dad.
She chooses to stay true to herself.
She saves the world again by showing kindness and compassion.
Her girlfriend leaves her.
She is still living with her ex's uncle.
She has to save the world again.
She comes back and finds out she is drowning academically. Her deity keeps bothering her because she has no one else to turn to. Kristen is 16 years old and tasked with reestablishing a lost religion.
Her friend, who she does love dearly despite her enjoying to tease him and who has been a very supporting presence in her life, pushes for her to run for school president. She tries her best but can't really focus.
She sees her parents again.
Her younger brother is being targeted by their bulshit now.
They didn't bother to send her the documents that could have alerted her that she's been letting things drag behind so much.
They scrutinize her new religion and lowkey implied her deity might have been responsible for the world almost ending that summer despite neither knowing anything.
She doesn't let herself be torn down.
A new kid from her old religion joins their school. He feels too familiar for comfort. She doesn't like him but can't fully hate him either.
A bunch of people hate her for no fault of her own.
She tries to get things back under control. Tries to fix things. Wants to take the class president thing seriously too though because that's important to her friend but she's a mess and keeps making nonsensical decisions.
Her deity is hurt because she isn't her first priority.
Her girlfriend is moving on. Kristen feels lonely and heartbroken.
A new threat rears it's head. Kristen's goddess dies. The responsibility falls on her.
She is at a party and has to pretend everything is fine. Becoming school president is all she has left.
She talks to her ex girlfriend for the first time since they broke up. The conversation helps.
She tells her teacher about her situationwho is understanding and tries to help her. She tells her everything. Including the stuff they had found out.
They investigate the forgotten deity and find out that things are so, so much more complicated.
Her teacher is brutally murdered.
She performs a miracle so her dead classmate and teacher can rest in peace.
All of her work at school is about to become obsolete.
She wants to reach out to her parents. They seem receptive.
Her new friend who is also put into a frankly shitty situation comes to her and tells her there is an option to employ a man from the church that abused her growing up. She gives her the opportunity to voice her opinion and Kristen chooses to go down that road knowing this would be best for her friends.
They go on vacation. She is about to meet her Ex and her Ex's new girlfriend. Said ends up a bit too familiar for comfort.
They discover the forgotten god's name. They find out she used to he married to her deity.
They come back, continue working, continue trying to fix things.
She meets up with her parents.
She remembers why she left.
She still hopes she can see them again.
Grades get submitted. She gets an F because the man she gave her blessing to becoming their teacher has it out for her.
She goes to him and grovels. She is lying but it still must have felt humiliating.
He doesn't help. Because he's a corrupt man in power who only has his own interest at heart.
They take the last stand. They win. Someone gets murdered and she can't save him.
She talks with her brother who feels lost. He seems too familiar for comfort. She knows he'll be alright.
Things happen and they save the day again. The goddess they revived gives her a opportunity to get revenge on her parents. She doesn't want it. She realizes that might be a relationship she will have to give up on.
Kristen Applebee's is 17 years old. She is creating a new pantheon. The boy she couldn't save just created a new God.
