So I had a talk with my parents the other day because I had come back home from college and they told me that my little brother had repeatedly asked for a phone. He’s 9. And stated that everyone else in his class had a phone. And I just kinda had to sit back and think wow their parents really just gave them unrestricted internet access at their age. Then my parents proceeded to tell me that they regret giving me my phone when they did, I wanna say I got a phone when I was in like 6th grade maybe 5th? Then another day Im streaming with my friend who also streams but on tiktok and someone had told him they were 9 and we were both like you have to be 13 to use tiktok and I’ve come to a personal realization that society is making these kids grow faster than they need to. The unrestricted internet access I got was detrimental to how I grew up and perceived the world. I just wanna say Im happy with what my parents told me and that they aren’t going to get my brothers phones till late 8th grade early 9th grade. Even then it might be too early but that makes more sense than give them one at 8 and 9. It pisses me off that these kids dont get to be kids anymore. Like the kids worrying about skin care and shit. Wanna know what I worried about I worried about my make believe world and if it was too hot outside. Not if I have wrinkles at 10.

Okay so hear me out finding childhood shows you forgot about is genuinely so great. Like one moment Im lost in the endless doom scroll that instagram has invoked in my depression and the next I hear the song that goes “mio mow mio mow la la la la la” and Im like where do I remember that from?? Next thing I do go to google because adhd brain no remember and I find the show (its Mio and Mow btw) and its just little claymations of cats and its Italian and I know my little 5 year old brain didn’t know Italian at the time and I just like the little kitty cats bc yes and then I get an unfathomable amount of dread realizing Im in college now and I cant go back to blissful childhood.
