Later on firearms were developed off of this concept and since they were “gunblades without the blade” people started calling them guns.

I think it's because the lion furries are kinda the most normal thing going on here. Like, most of the time a character's race won't ever be mentioned by other characters unless it's relevant, and it's very rarely relevant.
