The dad of a friend died, then around the same time (about a week and a half ago), my cousin died and now my cat is really ill. My OCD is getting worse because I just don't have control about anything. I just wish I could handle these things better.

how do you heat up your water for tea?
boiling water on the stove
microwave
some other way (???)
i donât drink tea/wanna see results
Please, do not heat up water in a microwave! If the cup is smooth enough and the water is pure enough, the water might explode the moment you agitate it!
Met an old teacher today and we got talking about âthe good old timesâ and ten minutes into the conversation I jokingly said the one regret I have from middle school is that I never won anything at her magnificent tombolas? Because, like, she used to hold this game about once a month so weâd learn the numbers in French and it was never big prizes, but as a 12-yo I desperately craved them - a cactus-shaped eraser, a bright blue notebook with slightly larger-than-usual squares, a set of coloured pens - and never ever got a single one of them.Â
(Actually spent a good few months thinking I was genetically unlucky and researching ancient family curses with my grandma.)Â
So today I donât know what I was hoping for - nothing, really?
(I mean, that part of me thatâs still twelve was probably expecting this sweet old woman to have a set of glitter stickers in her purse and just go âYou know what, youâre right - Iâve been saving this one for you all these years, here you goâ but Iâm a solidly rational person and I know thatâs stupid.)
No, I thought weâd just laugh and it would be a good shared memory and that would be it. Instead, my teacher got flustered and a bit embarrassed and explained the game was rigged. It was never about learning French at all. Sheâd just noticed some kids couldnât afford even basic stationery, so sheâd buy a few half-fancy items every month with her own money just for them. She didnât want them to feel different or left out. And obviously the way she used to walk around in the classroom, looking over our shoulders - it wasnât to prevent cheating. It was because she was cheating herself, wanting to see which number a particular child needed to get a Minnie Mouse pencil case.
Guys - the world is fucked up, but so many people out there are just good and kind and humbly heroic it honestly gives me hope.Â
Itâll be alright, youâll see.
love how when i get a new interest, iâm like âoh god itâs happening againâ and iâm stuck like that for about a week until everything explodes and any interest iâve had prior is completely dwarfed for an unknown amount of time

Do you think people of color see the same darkness when they close their eyes as caucasian people? What about what we see with our eyes closed when a light is shining on our face? Does the color of our eyelids affect what we see with our eyes closed??

I keep forgetting what the differences are in the over the counter pain relievers, so I made a handy chart.
This Is Important.
I always had really really horrible growing pains as a kid. Like, I clearly remember being curled up on the floor crying because it felt like some evil person had stuck a fork in my calf and was twisting it around like spaghetti. Mom always had me take ibuprofen for it, and when that didnât do anything, she just gave me more.
Now the stuff barely works on me, even when I take it for the things it actually fixes.
Please, please, double-check to make sure youâre taking the right medicines for your pain.
My mom always gave me tylonel for period cramps as a kid and it never did anything. Itâs nice to know now that she was literally giving me the least effective option
And please PLEASE note that as the chart says, acetaminophen âcan be taken with NSAIDsâ, which means you can take Tylenol/acetaminophen AND one of the other listed pain-relievers.
My mom has been a doctor for 40+ years, and her standard advice for headaches is, take two regular-strength Advil, and then if that doesnât work, ALSO take two regular-strength Tylenol.
For my British followers, Acetaminophen is Paracetamol!
Ibuprofen definitely isn't less harsh on the stomach though. Always eat something before taking it!
The world is dying, I'm back in the mental institution and both of my cats died.... everything is coming up roses
if only there was a way for us to contribute to one big gofundme medical campaign that could be used to cover everyoneâs medical expenses
I know this is a note to universal health care, but I do wanna take a moment to boost a seriously cool organization:
https://ripmedicaldebt.org/
RIP Medical Debt buys portfolios of medical debt (which are very cheap), and forgives them. They focus on debt held by people at the poverty line, where forgiveness can be a massive help for people.
Because medical debt is so cheap to purchase, donations to RIP Medical Debt go far beyond the dollar amount donated.Â
I truly hope that Americaâs predatory medical system will be reformed and made to work for us all, but until that happens, RIP Medical Debt is doing a fantastic job helping out people hurt by it.
wait wait wait you mean organizations can just buy medical debt for cheaper than the debt itself?
are you fucking kidding what the fuck kind of nightmarish late stage capitalist dystopian hellscape is america
i hate this country so much holy shit
Yeah so hereâs the thing about debt.
For you, itâs a shackle.
For some capitalist, itâs an investment.
Debt is bundled into portfolios and sold to people who then attempt to collect on the debt, therefore making their money back. Because debt is usually sold for less than what itâs worth (depending on the assumed difficulty of collecting it), debt can be very cheap to buy.
Medical debt is extremely cheap to buy. Medical debt portfolios are a very risky investment as far as debt portfolios go, because people are not likely to be able to pay it off.
This charity is exploiting that fact in order to forgive a lot of debt for very little money. Itâs a bandage on a gushing mortal wound. Americans cannot survive with the way the system treats us, and charities like this shouldnât need to exist.
But until that comes to pass, efforts like this can relieve some of this hurt. Fuck America, but there are also good people here who want to see things get better.
I don't know a lot about this but would it then be possible to start an organisation where people come to you when they are in medical debt. That way, you can buy their debt and they can pay you back the lesser amount. No idea if this would actually work but it seems interesting

im trying to clean out my school binders and i dont know why but every time i go to throw away schoolwork i always hesitate. âwhat if i want to use this for studying laterâ says i, the dumbass, who has not studied, for a single thing, in my entire goddamn life
I'm not sure if this was the same all over Belgium but we were obligated to keep our schoolwork for 4 years after graduating. I was made to believe that some government officials could come by and ask for them any time in those 4 years. If you couldn't show the work, you apparently had to repeat the grade. Now that I'm typing this, I do wonder if my mum just made that whole thing up so I'd be more organized. Anybody have the same experience? Please tell me!
