Overdue is strange...ly addicting. Its very soap operaesque maybe because of the lower budget feel. It feels like someone took a vertical and made it widescreen. Then they hired a director obsessed with shots of people's feet, bad cgi and green screen. However, Wang Churan and ZLH are fairly magnetic in it for their looks and their acting. Oddly, I was pretty drawn to the actor who played the main Xie Minion in POJ. He is doing a great job as the Huo BIL. If the twists get too crazy and unbelievable I'll probably drop but for now it has the addictive short feel and I can't not watch Wang Churan. I have a crush.
not everything in a story has to or should be "realistic" but in my opinion there's a level of illusion that should be maintained, and I think that's the actual problem that many people try to pinpoint with the "unrealistic" criticism. Dialogue shouldn't be written like an actual transcript of human speech, but should contribute to the illusion of a real person speaking. A character is a tool of the story, not a narrative, but we're trying to maintain the illusion that they are a person. Worldbuilding should exist to serve the story, not to be a perfect simulacrum of how every aspect of nature/society etc. would actually play out for real. But there should be the illusion that it could be real, that organizations and systems would operate in such a way, that people might behave in such a way.
in conclusion: "Is this realistic?" <<wrong question. "Does this serve the illusion or disrupt it?" <<now we're talking
Spike and Buffy are both so hot and pretty UwU

99% of queer discourse stops right before they define the true difference between bisexual and pansexual!
FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME
BISEXUALS GROW FROM THE GROUND
PANSEXUALS GROW FROM THE CEILING
Happy Pride, cave dwellers 🦇
The moment Ashes to Crown stray away from the main OTP writing and gets back to the politics ... it's ... yeah ...
Basically, how I would describe the political plot of Ashes to Crown is:
Tic Tac Toe pretending to be a chess tournament.
a bisexual preferring bangel over spuffy is incomprehensible to me
The most difficult thing for a Cdrama male lead to accomlish is having sex with his legally wedded wife
Sex is only allowed while 1) drugged with an aphrodisiac or 2) saving someone you wed from dying while having been drugged with an aphrodisiac. Thems the rules.

I could watch a whole drama about them...
I might be more invested in them in terms of romance in this show.
Beautiful
Mo Li / The First Jasmine 莫离
Episode 24
Unlike her husband, this is probably true. I am bitter about the preview. In real life, if she was abandoned at this pt she would 100% break. Her mind is already only being held together by ducktape and delusions. I don't actually feel too sorry for him because he chose to keep his assumptions after only talking to her for like 1 min where she told him what he said wasn't true.
If you want revenge, you can take my life right now. Do it.
ZHOU YIRAN || Ashes to Crown (2026)
The actual plot here was one of those Unecessary Misunderstandings that drive me nuts but I can't resist a sad puppy sopping wet handsome man. Must repost.
Enjoying The First Jasmine immensely. The disabilities happening, physical and mentally, between both characters make it fascinating. I don't know if a c drama ever dares to leave a disabled character actually disabled which is a bit frustrating. I hope they at least show his walking is never 100% again or something to indicate he isn't "cured" by the end and back to factory settings. I also hope they don't show her immense trauma coping mechanisms eventually all erased either by the end. I am enjoying the slow reveal of everything that has happened to her.
It makes me emotional they are showing she is incredibly intelligent but once ppl know she sees delusions they start to infantalize her. It is so realistic (now do this with an obese character). The ML is seen, at some pt, for his skill and still offered a high ranking job even though he is disabled. Although he is trying he still doesn't really 'see' her. I like that she has enough inward strength she doesn't actually require people to see how competent she actually is. She even uses their own ignorance against them.
The show has great commentary on her being infantalized as a woman, especially as a mentally ill woman. They expect so little of her but she is the smartest one in the room and I am enjoying watching them all slowly figure it out.

Seeing clips of filming for Dancing with the Tide and some online comments are making me worried we are getting a sad ending. The characters go through so much in the book that a sad ending would have been too much, but the book definitely makes it easy to give an alternate sad ending. The real ending does feel less realistic, but I don't think I can handle it if the drama goes that route. It looks like they are adding a lot more overt romance to the drama to possibly balance out a sad ending. Scared 😬. How many times do we have to cry for Tan Jianci?
