Like not only will it help to materially improve conditions for those around you and fight back against the harm being caused by our government, but it also has genuinely helped me so much in terms of just having a social life and community

I would point you towards your local dsa, and food not bombs for orgs that I consider to at least be decent in most cities. Also look at your local transit advocacy group. Psl varies widely but can be very good. If you are still in uni, look at the sjp or ydsa chapters. But really every city has several socialist orgs and you shouldn't limit yourself to national ones
