DUNGEONS 'N' DUDES

I was planning to get some drafts queued up and ready to go since I will be away until monday (I'm taking a small trip out of town with some friends for my birthday) but tonight for our last pre-trip dinner to make sure we had everything we would need planned... shots happened. a lot of shots.

I don't trust myself not to make a mess of threads I owe so I am just going to be AWAY until MONDAY night.

joakim  is  a  retired  superhero  who  is  now  just  trying  to  get  by  and  live  a  normal  life  with  his  son.  but  even  though  he  is  not  on  active  duty  anymore,  it  doesn't  mean  his  powers  are  gone.  the  vibe  for  the  starter  is  open  for  interpretation,  welcome  to  villains,  fellow  heroes,  or  keep  it  mundane.

"     don't  think  for  a  second  that  just  because  i  hung  up  the  cape,  my  abilities  went  with  it.  i  can  still  punt  you  across  the  continent  if  i  wanted  to,     "                 joakim  said,  his  voice  laced  with  an  easy,  dangerous  sort  of  amusement.  as  if  to  prove  his  point,  he  casually  reached  down  and  grabbed  a  massive  hunk  of  mangled  steel  resting  on  the  pavement.  it  was  a  piece  of  debris  torn  from  some  villain's  weapon,  crushed  into  a  dead  weight  that  easily  weighed  a  ton. 

yet,  as  joakim  lifted  it,  his  body  barely  strained.  there  was  only  a  brief,  fluid  ripple  beneath  the  thin  fabric  of  his  shirt  as  his  muscles  locked  into  place.  an  effortless  display  and  a  quiet  reminder  that  his  superhuman  strength  is  still  very  much  there.  tossing  the  metal  to  the  other  scraps,  he  turned  back  with  a  soft,  slow  smile.      "     so,  unless  you're  actually  here  to  help,  i'd  appreciate  it  if  you  let  me  finish.  there's  a  mountain  of  wreckage  left  to  clear,  and  the  mayor  expects  these  streets  spotless  before  midnight.  would  that  be  okay,  darling?     "

his durability was hardly a superpower. if anything it was a testament to his stubbornness, masochistic tendencies, and his drive to survive. corey was hardly a hero... but he wasn't a villain either. so, what, because he chose to put himself first and work for whoever had the deepest pockets he was a criminal? a villain? bad? he loathed that restrictive ideology; that you were either good or bad. he was the in between. "darling? oh, so you do recognize me without having to slam me into a wall first or bore me with one of your speeches about wasting my potential or doing the right thing." corey countered with an amused smirk, arms crossed over his broad chest, as he idly poked at a piece of torn metal on the ground with the toe of his right boot.

when i heard on my police scanner that you were out here, helping clean up the city, i just-- i had to check it out for myself." the mercenary laughed, mocking the man, as he looked up at him and narrowed his eyes in disappointment. "you stopped being a hero-- you gave it all up-- for what? so you could still be that megalomaniac's lapdog? the mayor's bitch?" his words came out venomous and sharp as he stomped closer to joakim. "you and i both know you are better than cleaning up somebody else's mess. when-- when i heard your name, i thought that meant you were back. i thought--" he didn't consider the man his enemy but they weren't exactly allies either. corey had worked with him a few times in the past but often, because of the way he followed money they often found themselves against each other; at each other's throats. "i thought you'd be back at it, cape and all, i guess. i thought we'd be back at it," he shrugged as he pursed his lips together and shook his head. "i-- fuck, i don't know. i guess i don't know what i thought," he explained with an exhausted, exasperated huff of breath. "--but i didn't think you'd be doing this."
