I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. A razorgirl with mirrors for eyes, who'll have you wearing your balls for a bowtie if you look at her crosseyed. I've seen a skateboarder harpoon a Mafia pizza car, driven by Samurai hacker named Hiro Progatonist. I've seen an eye-patched killer surf a tsunami, "Casablanca" retold in a strip club, and cyborg sharks made boring. Follow the white rabbit, Mr. Deckard, or the Puppet Master will pesonally, rip your heart, out of your ass, and cram it, back down your throat.
“I’m collecting you for the man I work for. Just wants to talk is all, nobody wants to hurt you. Cept I do hurt people sometimes Case, I guess its just how I’m wired…“ - Molly
Possibly the single best artwork of Molly Millions to date. Sadly this is the type of art style that AI now plagerizes the hell out of. Rest assured, this image has been online long before AI imagery.

According to the description, this cosplayer used replicas of Morpheus's armless shades from "The Matrix" to serve as Molly's implants. The nose band is still visible, but the book never said it wasn't, did it.
I made a Molly cosplay in college, that I wore to several cons throughout my early '20s. I've lost the old claws and lenses, but remade them the same way this year. Well, almost the same.
A very special thanks to my amazing younger sister, who allowed me to drag her on a wild goose chase all around the hotel to find this perfect cement stairwell, and act as my photogropher. Many of these poses were her suggestions, and she gave me directions on how to adjust my poses. She's a cosplayer of a much higher level than me, making professional-level costumes. For me this is just a hobby.
Lenses:
For Molly's lens implants, I got a pair of mirrored sunglasses from the dollar store; the lenses popped out of the frame easily. The elastic now has to be ordered online, as craft stores apparently don't sell it in-store anymore! Last time, I made duct-tape frames around the lenses, which the elastic was attached to. This time, I wanted to minimize the duct tape, and opted for the look of metallic frames on only the edges of Molly's lenses.
Unfortunately, the duct tape didn't hold up in the heat. This place had AC, but it was much weaker than I'd anticipated. From now on, I'm saving my Molly cosplays for the winter. (I only attempted it for CONvergence because the theme this year was "androids and cyborgs.")
Claws:
The claws are cardboard and duct tape. I made them retractable using wire, and duct-tape rings, which would be hidden under the fingerless gloves. However, pulling them in and out was difficult even without the gloves. In the future, I think I'll just attach the claws to the glove!
Ono-Sendai:
I used this fanmade logo created by Gary Burke, who shared it to Dribble. In hindsight I should have asked his permission to use his logo. Hopefully he doesn't mind!
I printed the logo out on regular paper, cut it out, and taped it to a plastic case that I normally use for "Star Trek" cosplays.
The Dixie Flatline:
This too is a fan logo, appearing on online merchandise like stickers and phone cases. In the future I'll order the phone case. This year I didn't think of it until it was too late to order anything else, so I printed it off a computer and hastily taped it to a black wallet from the Dollar Store.
Everything Else:
The wig was an "Emo wig," that I ordered online. The coat came from some thrift shop. The boots and leggings, I originally bought for my Maquis B'Elanna cosplay. The tanktop and bullet necklace are just regular things I own.
The fingerless gloves were bought at a gas station I worked at, long, long ago. I drew the silver trim on with a silver Sharpie.
Finally, I own a Blade Runner umbrella, that my other sister (not the photographer got me many birthdays ago. They were showing "Blade Runner" at the con, and the forecast was stormy, so I thought this would be a perfect time to bring it. Sadly no one cared. But it went perfectly with the Molly cosplay.
I hope to have improvements on this cosplay come November, where I'll be volunteering at Twin Cities Con.
I've been entertaining the idea of redoing my old "Snow Crash" cosplay for the last decade...
...I more or less gave up on the idea, largely due to my age. But this year I said screw it, and went ahead, even though I'm probably older than Y.T.'s mom by now. Hey, if the 1970s could regularly cast middle-aged adults to play "high schoolers," I can still cosplay as Y.T., right?
Well the 'poon is a complete disaster, and I need to lose more weight. And I put the label of the Liquid Knuckles on the wrong side of the water bottle, so you can't see it when it's hanging on my belt.
The saddest mishap was with my pizza box. At some point during the con, that cool timer screen on top fell off. I haven't found it yet. It was scrap parts, but such perfect scrap...
The Parts:
I collect old electronic scrap that looks cool, mainly cosplays. Many of these are parts from old flip-phones. The BSG pin that I bought somewhere is an Easter egg. I thought about including my Starfleet combadge, but couldn't find it, and it was probably too heavy for this material anyway.
For the coverall, I ordered this blue-and-orange jogging suit off of Temu. I didn't have time to make changes to the suit, so I attempted to hide the "New York" logos under the pins. Turned out that was easier said than done.
The "RadiKS" logo on the back was drawn on with a fabric marker, that sadly left smudges.
For the pizza box, I bought a plastic box from a craft store. Then I went online and picked out a fan-made logo for Uncle Enzo's pizza that I liked, and adjusted the colors digitally to better match the box I'd got. Here's the original image:
Finding the artist to credit them is difficult, as this logo appears on multiple (probably unlicensed) "Snow Crash" shirts and products. The T-shirt I wore was likewise ordered online.
The handcuffs came from the Halloween store.
The sneakers are just my regular work shoes.
The gloves are cycling gloves that I bought for the old version of this cosplay, eleven or twelve years ago. I can't remember where I got them. The Yellow Submarine guitar-pick earring is one of a pair that my sister got me a few birthdays ago. The pop-top earring, I just made quickly by taking a hook off of another earring and wiring a poptop onto it. Alas, I once owned a pair of blue poptop earrings that were perfect for this cosplay. They're lost now.
The Liquid Knuckles are just a water bottle I bought from a 4th of July sale of red, white and blue bottles. The letters are just alphabet stickers. Both from Wallmart. Sadly I didn't pay attention to where I was putting those letters on, and they ended up on the side facing inward when the bottle is hanging from my belt. I plan to buy another set of stickers and put a label on the other side.
The 'poon was the biggest disaster. I found an old nerf gun at Goodwill that had the perfect color scheme. Then I got some blue plastic bowls from the dollar store. It should've come out pretty well. But I was rushed, and relying on duct tape. Luckily I have some extra bowls, so I'll try to redo this with glue or wire this time. The plastic orange chain also came from a thrift shop.
Finally, the goggles were bought at a convention, I forget which one. I didn't make them, but whoever did likely just repainted some swimming goggles.
I hope to have significant improvements on this cosplay by Twin Cities Con this November.

Indie short film, recreating a scene from the book "Neuromancer" by William Gibson. This is not related to the Apple TV series under production.
This independent short film was made by a dude named James Sterling. Staring Dante Fiallo as Case, and Marisa dos Santos as Molly.
The production for this indie short is incredible, and Case is phenomenal. The atmosphere is dead on. My one beef is with the portrayal of Molly. Marisa dos Santos is a great actress, but the direction and design of the character feel way off to me. The skin bulging around her lens implants is really distracting. And she plays the character way to quiet and "sexy" compared to the tough streetwise punk I always imagined. Hopefully Brianna Middleton's Molly will be more on-point. (So far from production stills, Apple at least got the character's look more or less correct.)
I'm long overdue to read Bruce Sterling. I'm not very far into the book, but I'm far enough to realize that this isn't Laura Webster on the cover; it's Reverend Morgan, from the Church of Ishtar!
Sangamon Taylor, the protagonist and narrator of Neal Stephenson's eco-thriller Zodiac" (1988), which I am currently reading for the second time (the first being years ago). It's Stephenson's second novel, and as such isn't perfect. But I love how much it is an unintentional period piece of the year I was born. I could have waited until I had better markers, but didn't. The limited resources that went into this picture actually fits the character and story perfectly.
For all it’s faults, I really enjoyed reading SevenEves by Neal Stephenson. I’m dubious about the scientific or anthropological viability of the various “races” but they were fun to draw!
Ivyn: Asian features with a sense of laid-back intellectualism
Dinan: I wanted to preserve Dinah’s Irish heritage as well as give a sense of nobility and heroism.
Teklan: strong and Russian
Moiran: to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to draw for the Moirans, so I just tried for African features with light colored eyes.
Julian: big eyes and small mouth for a “cute” look and I gave him a friar haircut to represent religious orders.
Camite: androgynous Pakistani in a hijab
Neoander: modernized Neanderthal, with some Italian features mixed in.
Beta: a Puckish looking woman, vaguely ant-like
Aretaic: cruelly regal features and long black hair, though he looks a bit like a goth rocker without makeup
Jinn: mad-scientist with technological enhancement
Extat: I head-canoned this to be an abbreviation of “extreme attitude” and thus a religiously-minded sect that rivals the Julians. I gave him piercings and alien looking eyes after Eve Aïda.
Nice work! "Seveneves" was definitely interesting, despite its wall-banging plot holes. (Like, how are these races staying so "pure" after centuries of living in close proximity to each other?)

I very well may die of laughter at the absolute ironic perfection of the Google AI getting this particular line from this particular book wrong. I am gasping. I am also glad the AI hasn't read any cyberpunk.
The Deliverator belongs to an elite order, a hallow subcategory. He's got esprit up to here. Right now, he is preparing to carry out his third mission of the night. His uniform is black as activated charcoal, filtering the very light out of the air.

I first read REAMDE by Neal Stephenson in eighth grade and I imagined the main character (Dodge) as looking like my seventh grade social studies teacher. And then later, like in high school, I read Dodge in Hell (sequel) and boom same guy. I literally can't remember his face unless I reread either of those books. My seventh grade teacher whose name I don't even remember is permanently cast as Dodge in my weird brain-movie of REAMDE.
Surely I've been cast in somebody's vision of a book, right? Not even necessarily someone I know closely, but maybe just like an old classmate thinks Randy Waterhouse from Cryptonomicon looks like me. Or it could be a book that's not by Neal Stephenson too I guess
I can't believe that in all my life as a bookaholic this never crossed mind. Because I've always done the same thing. Several of Harry Potter's classmates definitely resemble people I vaguely knew in elementary school.
