Hi I don't even go here but I wanted to talk about how this happens (at least from my observations as somebody new to the franchise yet interested in Valentine for some reason)
Okay so I'm gonna get the thing with Draculaura out of the way first. Misogyny. Unfortunately, there's this weird thing online where, when women end up in a situation where even 1% of blame can be put on them, people blow it out of proportion. Especially when a man is involved in some way, such as Valentine. It doesn't help that he's gay. Because of that, people who fetishize gay men will treat him as a little baby angel who is just an innocent little victim, even if they caused problems too. If this situation was reversed, Valentine being a woman and Draculaura being a gay man, but everything else was untouched, Valentine would've been treated like Satan reincarnated.
To elaborate on how people begin to baby him to the point of character assassination, it largely comes from amplifying the little bit of silliness he displays in the movie and comics. That's combined with the fact he's been confirmed to be gay. Often, when a character is gay but seen as more "feminine" than their partner, they're also grossly treated as if they need protection. Basically treating them with the same hetslop standards applied to women in relationships.
So, since Valentine has his silly little real voice in the movie, his insecurities displayed in his diary, his behavior in the comics, and how Spelldon helps him work through his issues, people use it to mischaracterize him like described. Of course, we know this isn't actually the case. It's just that the pride comics focus on his deeper, more personal thoughts, breaking down the walls of the persona he built up, so with the fact this is one of very few medias to focus on him, it leads to people acting like it's the majority of his personality.
I wouldn't put all of the blame onto the pride comics, though. They just try to help characterize how Valentine is now that he's not manipulating girls for power anymore. He's deeply unaware about what it means to feel genuine connection, to be sensitive with others, to fall in love (let alone with a boy), so he's a mess. Can't fault him for acting different when this is a new side of himself he's exploring.
Anyways, I hope all of this makes sense, I love these silly little monsters
(Is it apparent that I got introduced to Valentine because I found out MH had a gay character with the first pride comic? I still don't know much about MH, but I hope my interpretation of all of this makes sense to others.)
