what i think is one of the most important factors when it comes to the relationship between skipper and kowalski is the way they'd never casually admit how much they actually mean to each other.
hear me out
skipper, kowalski and rico have their own soft side for private. rico often assists kowalski when he presents one of his inventions while skipper openly appreciates rico and his dedication. but when it comes to kowalski and skipper, it's different
they openly call each other out, they argue, skipper gets easily irritated when kowalski is being a smartass and comes up with some new inventions. kowalski is annoyed whenever skipper acts irrational and gets defensive when the gang doesn't appreciate his brain. they're plotting together. throughout madagascar series (trilogy) they're shown working together almost every time. it's skipper and kowalski who are confronting phil and mason during the whole monkey union thing im the second movie. they're working as a duo in monte carlo. in the penguins movie kowalski is shocked and almost heartbroken when skipper refuses to lead them and lets north wind do their job instead. skipper never questions kowalski when he's giving him options. when blowhole is calling them to tell them that he's got julien and describes him as skipper's best friend by using an acronym - kowalski decrypts it and skipper gets mad but he immediately reassures kowalski that he's not mad at him but at blowhole. kowalski is skipper's second in command. skipper is kowalski's leader. the list only goes on.
