since coming to italy, lacey’s efforts in finding herself has been anything but successful. she tried to come up with her own personality- trying to be more independent and forcing herself to go on solo adventures, but every turn she made ended up leading her to someone else who she could easily take bits and pieces from to use as her own. avery was no different- confident, eccentric, easy going, and unapologetically herself. avery had traits that lacey dreamed of having for herself and as usual, lacey took what she wanted and mimicked avery like she did with everyone else. avery was no different than the rest, but how lacey felt about avery was something that she wasn’t prepared for. lacey swore it was love, genuine love, but how could she be so sure when the other half was so adamant that it was all fake? 

❝positano isn’t the biggest village and i’d say you were the one stalking me considering your camera was pointed at me a few seconds ago.❞ lacey commented, ❝and even if i was stalking you, then wouldn’t you be able to use that for clickbait on one of your videos? it could be titled ‘stalked by my ex all the way in italy! NOT CLICK BAIT!’ and you would’ve gotten views for it. i can pretend to stalk you if you want. it’d be fake, but hey! it’s less work, isn’t it?❞

avery scoffed, fiddling around with her camera - a nervous tick that she had picked up over the years. “lacey, if i wanted to stalk you - i’d do it in a discreet way, i’ve watched more murder documentaries than i can count to learn how stalking works.” the annoyance in her tone was evident with her reply towards the others accusation, “not that i use it to stalk.” she added. avery glanced away from lacey, fixating her gaze on a group nearby - she couldn’t look at the other female for too long; afraid that the more she looked, the more she would regret them breaking up but she had to remind herself, who was lacey to begin with? avery wasn’t about to strike ahead and date a mystery. “that would be a good title,” she mumbled to herself, “would pull in views.” avery spoke yet again under her breath as she rocked back and forth on her heels. she looks at lacey after her sentence and produces an ingenuine smile, “why? you would know a thing or two bout faking things right?”

               ❝ ah yes, the fan. if i remember correctly, which my memory is a bit hazy, it may have been used in a game of jousting and is now in three pieces. it made for a great weapon while it lasted. so, that being said… can i add a replacement fan to the shopping list ? just buy less pasta and more indoor cooling systems because the dead person will be me if we don’t do something about the smell and soon.  ❞

❛ i’m sorry, who are you jousting in your own gym? i didn’t realize you were doing jousting classes featuring fans that cost about 9 euros. how much training do you really do in that gym, kang? let’s be honest here before i think about getting a cooling system.   ❜

        ❪ ⠀   * ⠀ ─          ❝      you  not  remembering  my  time  here  kind  of  hurts,  because  i  thought  we  became  during  my  stay  but  i  guess  not  –  and  for  that  reason  alone,  i  won’t  be  finding  air  conditioners.  those  things  are  way  too  heavy  and  i’m  way  too  pretty  to  be  lifting  them  all  on  my  own.  i’ll  spend  that  time  instead,  caring  deeply  about  everyone  else,  only  in  my  head,  though.      ❞

❝ maybe they’re complaining because the vacation isn’t what they thought it would be! i heard that one of the couples staying is on the verge of a break up and it doesn’t sound too good since the guy just introduced their daughter to them and the daughter is already calling them mom. imagine coming to italy, leaving your daughter at home, and then coming back to italy to tell your daughter that their new mother figure already left… that would blow so bad. ❞

❛ nol, you know i love you right? right? and i’d never be mean but what the absolute fuck are you saying to me and how the hell did you get from ac to a mother leaving their family? is there unpacked trauma you and i need to talk about?  ❜

❛ you’re going to blame them for wanting air conditioning in the mediterranean ? i want air conditioning and i’m not even paying to live here. it’s annoying when they complain about the food being undercooked or ‘ inedible ‘, but i think air conditioning one is kinda’ valid. ❜

❛ with the salary you have, you should get yourself an ac - i’m not going to stop you but if someone were to rob it from you, then sounds like an issue. most of europe doesn’t have ac, they’ll live as will you. the ac they can live without, the food? not so much, ever think about taking lessons? cause we know it could help. ❜

the raven haired girl’s fingers fiddled around with the dials on her camera. she was aiming to get the right focus of the streets for her upcoming vlog which avery drafted a title, ‘italy? real or fake?” - her vlog titles hardly were something serious, just like her current hyperfixation on being a youtuber but hey - whatever pays the bills. she wasn’t doing too bad, otherwise being able to afford her apartment in positano wouldn’t be feasible. her camera focused in on a bunch of strangers roaming the streets of the amalfi coast and shs didn’t think much of it until her camera settled on a certain ex who had come into her shot which brought avery to nearly drop her expensive camera and that would have been a disaster all together. but not as much as the disaster that was her relationship with lace, avery assumed everything was one big lie - as well as lacey was. the sudden anger etched on her face could not be hidden, her distaste towards the other female was evident in the way they’d bump into one another - but avery’s heart was still soft for some sort of idea of her - the one that was shown anyway. “are you stalking me now?” she called out, “i’m sure it’s a lot less work than..” her voice trailed, avery bit down on her tongue and left the air to fill the empty sentence.

               ❝ yeah yeah, and when you do get air conditioning put it in the gym first. if i have to work one more day with the smell of old men’s body odour lingering in the air for hours, i will start refusing guests the right to exercise. ❞ 

❛ well, first of all - slow down we will neve get an ac, the heat shouldn’t stop you. second, isn’t there an air freshener in there because it smells a lot more than old men.. smells like someone died, and three - what happened to the fan?  ❜

        ❪ ⠀   * ⠀ ─          ❝      nic,  do  you  remember  when  i  was  a  guest  here?  what  a  fun  time,  except  it  wasn’t  because  it  was  hot  and  i  learned  every  word  to  nolan’s  first  mixtape  on  accident.  but,  yes,  i  agree  with  you  because  i  don’t  care  about  their  problems.      ❞

❝ you’d think these brats would be prancing around the vatican or running across cobblestone streets in rome or something, not tracking in muddy footprints. they’re all ungrateful, if you ask me. do they honestly think we’d be sweating it out if we could afford ac ? what a joke. ❞

❛ that’s exactly what i’m saying, take a trip to florence or enjoy the countrysides of sicily and take in the beauty of italy for what it is, go wine tasting, take a weekend trip to greece - what the fuck does the bnb have to do with ruining your ‘trip’? be grateful for this roof over your head.  ❜
