My HTTYD posts are gaining traction so I just want to say real quick that, yes, live action remakes are pretty much pointless unless they do something unique and different with the story, like Cinderella (2015). And they are especially pointless if they change the story in a bad way by misinterpreting what made the story so special to begin with (*cough* Lilo and Stitch *cough*). The new How to Train Your Dragon doesn’t change really much of anything, it doesn’t even really change the music. But I think it’s kinda mean to call it trash, because it didn’t damage the story, it just told it again. And all the kids playing the Viking teens seemed like they had fun doing it. So like yeah, it’s not doing anything new, but it’s not completely wrecking it either. If you wanna see it, it’s fine, it’s practically the same. If you don’t wanna see it because it already exists, that’s fine too. But since this movie is at least a faithful adaptation and not a garbage fire, I think we should at least be kind to the actors who are in it. For once, we got a live action remake that didn’t toss out a bunch of stuff, but it also didn’t really add anything new. It’s How to Train Your Dragon.
Just watched the live action httyd and I have mixed feelings because some parts I loved and some I didn’t. The music, cgi and visuals in general were amazing though. Not a huge fan of some of the dragons’ designs but the overall detail was great. I feel like it had more potential but I did feel like I got to experience some of that special httyd magic again, so I’ll take that as a win :) and it was pretty cool to see Hiccstrid again too.
I also don’t know why they cut the terrible terrors scene because surely that’s key to the whole “not so fire proof on the inside are you”.
I thought it was good overall, just think it could have been even better.

what my girl Violet needs after that ending is a bottle of straight vodka tbh

I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned “forever” into the only acceptable definition of success.
Like… if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it’s a “failed” business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don’t actually want to keep doing that, you’re a “failed” writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it’s a “failed” marriage.
The only acceptable “win condition” is “you keep doing that thing forever”. A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a “real” friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a “phase” - or, alternatively, a “pity” that you don’t do that thing any more. A fandom is “dying” because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.
I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it’s okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success… I don’t think that’s doing us any good at all.
I finished it

What I wanna know is if the bird theory was planned from the beginning or if they just decided to go with it after we all talked about it so much bc tbh it would explain a few things if they had it planned from the start. Like in the very beginning when Callum had gone back into the castle to tell Harrow they had the egg and he screams "dad" but gets no response. Like there are lots of explanations for that but damn if the bird theory isn't one of them

So one of the best ways to help TDP get a third arc is by getting new people to watch the show start to finish within the next month. Beyond recommending the show to people, one thing you can also do is to make a new Netflix account (will count as a new user) and then just stream TDP constantly. I just did this myself as previously I was using my family's. Because fuck we need arc 3
Finally finished watching the dragon prince, holy fuck. Mostly awesome, a few things I would have changed/had more of but omg. That was very very good.
