THANK YOU!! <3 I’m always very bad in explaining what I’m doing. Cause there is just a lot of trying and painting over it and mashing and mixing colors until I feel it’s good. So I tried to show you. I hope this helps!

This is Rebecca Sugar in the SDCC panel reminding you all to take care of yourselves ♥
Here’s a thing I see a ton of people mess up, even Studio Ghibli. Hopefully this is an easy graphic you can pull up to help out.
OOPS I did not mean to post my art here, I’m sorry! Tumblr mobile really is a mess.
Just finished this BotW2 piece!! I’m so happy with how it came out!
This was a tutorial funded by the Patreon folks~! They have a new one coming soon so I thought I’d put this one up for everyone. :3
Here’s a tutorial I did a bit ago. I thought it might be helpful to folks over here as well.

This is how I draw hands. I simplify the shape and then later I will add the necessary details. It makes it easier to get them right. But the only way to learn how to draw hands is to just keep drawing them.
I saw your drawing of Patton with wings and PLEASE TELL ME HOW DO YOU DO CLOUDS?!?? TELL ME YOUR SECRET!
HEhehehehehe OK So there’s this tool called Airbrush (I use the free version of Sketchbook btw):
Very useful for fluffy soft things and shading. (I pretty much almost exclusively use Pencil and Airbrush and a select few custom brushes.)
I drew two different types of clouds So, here we go:
Cumulus:
light outline of the general shape (don’t use white. I suggest light grey, grey-blue, light pink/orange/purple, for various times of day/lighting. storm clouds are simular, but use dark grey, dark blue, dark purple, or, maybe, red or yellow all these color variations will change the mood and what time of day it might indicate. For Patton’s I used mostly light pink to indicate early morning/sunrise)
Fill lightly with differing weight throughout, let your intuition guide you honestly.
I then go to the lowest line weight in Sketchbook
and outline again
Using this general stroke pattern:
After that, I kinda just play around, fluff things up and add more definition and define where highlights are
(honestly, you can leave it here, depending on how dense you want your cloud to look.)
After that, I get a darker color (again usually not black or dark grey, a greyish-dark tone of whatever light color you had initially works very nice.) And fill in the areas that will have shading.
Clouds do follow the rules of 3D objects and shading, they’re just….in the sky. Depending on the time of day, the sun can hit them from behind, above or to the side. Know where the sun is and you know where to generally place the shadowing. Add the darkest shadows to the base of the cloud.
After that, I go back to either a very light color, or white, and add more highlights and fluffiness.
Cirrus (honestly these are my favorite kinda clouds?):
With these clouds, you’ll wanna start with a slightly darker color, and make some curvy lines.
bring in the highlight color and go back over a few areas
Then it’s time to break out the pencil tool! get a highlight color, and go over the highlight regions, in a somewhat similar pattern to the cumulus cloud.
Also doing this general pattern & light crosshatching works nicely on these.
That, and:
I have cloud-pen-tools downloaded. :P (although I usually use them as a base to build up on)

A wing can be quite a confusing thing, so check out this amazing #Tutorial from Twarda8!
Hi! I’m not really an artist, but we did this still life in art class, and I’m really proud of it! This was my first time drawing from life with color and shading. Let me know what you think!
—————————————–
This rose is lovely! I’m not sure if the colors are light because of way you took the picture of if they are light to begin with, so I am just going to critique it based on the picture above! For one, I think you are plenty of an artist! This really is a beautify rendering. It’s delicate like the flower and I can tell you put care into the petals and the tones that you chose. You used colored pencils yes? From the delicateness of the colors I at first thought it might have been watercolor. Still you did a good job with the colored pencils. Something beginners sometimes do is make the lines of the pencils go every which way (sorta chaotic crosshatching) but keeping your strokes similar helps with blending. Some things that you should work on is make areas that are very very dark compared to all of the flower having a general lightness about it. A good example is right on your own picture! Do you see the center of the flower where you have a sort of dark area? In the darkest spots of the flower try to add more darkness, if that make sense. ie, where petal overlaps. This will really help your rose POP. And with the leaves, you will want to do some more blending with them to darken them and give them more definition because they do kind of blend into the background white to me.
Here’s a breakdown for hands too ‘cause why not.

This is still something I struggle with, so this is less a tutorial and more just a collection of tips and things I’ve noticed when drawing clothing folds! I hope this helps some of you!
I’m going to try to be active again on this blog as best as I can! Please send in anything you might like critiqued/redlined! Depending on how many I get I don’t know if I will be able to do all but I will try to one every few days as well as continue to find and reblog good tutorials.
I will probably be clearing the inbox because its been quite a while since some of these were submitted. If you want me to look at anything you might have submitted, please do so again!
