      facial  features  slightly  faltered  to  a  look  of  confusion  ,  uncertain  if  he  deserved  that  type  of  reaction  or  not.  he  was  simply  trying  to  soften  the  mood  of  the  evidently  intense  ritual.  he  growled  back  ,  stepping  back  a  bit  as  to  be  careful  she  didn’t  cast  magic  upon  him.  “  i  was  not  attempting  to  jest  alana.  ”  he  was  stoic  then  ,  serious  as  can  be.  he  had  struck  a  nerve  and  now  he  was  going  to  try  and  fix  it.  he  was  ready  to  help  ,  even  if  the  threat  of  monsters  was  low.  geralt  was  always  reluctant  to  help  a  sorceress  with  magic  but  when  it  came  to  alana  ,  he  didn’t  mind  keeping  close  to  just  in  case  the  spell  went  wrong.  this  was  never uttered  , most  of  geralt’s  thoughts  were  kept  in  his  head.   having  learned  the  hard  way  that  not  everything  he w as  thinking  should  be  uttered  aloud  for  everyone  to  hear.  head  tilted  for  a  moment  ,  wondering  if  she  could  read  his  mind  just  like  yennefer  did.  he  hated  when  she  did  that  and  he  hated  portals  just  as  much.  “  i  can  help  alana.  ”  he  reminded  her  ,  golden  hues  watching  her  hands  work.  “  it’s  not  hunting  monster  but  i’m  familiar  with  the  ritual.  ”

although her fists were clenched and her teeth were gritted, she managed to blink away the tears before they could fall. she inhales sharply through her nose, stares at him as he speaks. he probably knew from all the places that he had been & all of his time on this earth that his thoughts were not safe from any sorcerer or sorceress. perhaps that’s what softened her anger, the fact that she knew he really just wanted to help her.  in that moment she wondered what he would think knowing that should she remove the gloves from her hand, she would be privy to memories that even he himself hadn’t thought of in years------------he probably wouldn’t want to help her then. she kept it to herself, guiding with gestures on what to get so she wouldn’t burst again. ‘ i’m sorry. ’ she says softly after what felt like an eternity of silence, something very common for the witcher but alana----it was often hard to stop her tongue. ‘ that wasn’t fair. you were just trying to be kind. ’ she was busying herself with working on the spell, nearly complete now she had to look back up at him again. not because she didn’t want to. she was just embarrassed. ‘ years ago i stopped letting my emotions get the better of me. these days it’s harder and harder. ’ she tells him, a moment of transparency.
