I think what you're thinking of its PANS/PANDAS which are syndromes caused by post-viral infections and include sudden onset of generally complex and severe tics, but the tics described in either syndrome do not qualify for meeting the criteria for Tourettes syndrome. Tics from PANS/PANDAS and Tourettes Syndrome have two completely different causes.
