One thing about us is that our favorite preferred name. The one thing we like to be called the most in the whole world- is our legal last name.
Having our legal last name as a preferred chosen name has led to some interesting experiences such as:
How do I sign cards to my family. We share a last name. This leads to zero identification on who I am. Signing birthday cards to my dad with his last name and nothing else is funny but not very helpful.
incase of maternal family or family friends, that also makes me pretty anonymous. “signed: chosen name” ok cool which one? Me, my brother, my dad, my paternal grandparents, what about my step mom.
Being unable to go by that name with most of our friends. A significant portion of people we care about are online, and I am far too paranoid about being doxxed to put my last name online. Also unable to put it on any blogs or anything.
cannot change my legal first name to it 👎. as much as example example as a legal name sounds sick as hell I do have to think of my future employment opportunities.
It lets me go stealth sometimes while still using my preferred name. I don’t really get a lot of questions when I go “I prefer to go by my last name”
My name is so me. It makes me so euphoric. And it works extremely well with people who don’t know my family personally, so when they here my name they think of me not my family.
Also… my last name is sick as hell.
Anyway you all need to get on this. Tagging @radiomogai <- experience post???
