          Lily Bullard had been on the run from him for almost 2 years now. She was tired of it, but she knew she stood little chance to defend herself against him if she was to be caught. She had narrowly escaped him on a few occasions, but wanted to have as little contact with him as possible, in order to avoid any chance of her slipping up and getting caught. She had to admit though, this last two years had been great for honing her skills, learning how to disappear entirely and learn from her mistakes. She was able to adapt fast and had become quite effective in avoiding the public and the relationships that came with it. But just as she adapted, so would he. It became an endless game of cat and mouse that they began playing together. He being the cat, the predator, was known as The Hunter for his skill. And her? She was the mouse, something seen as the ultimate prize: a shape shifter.

          She had been out for the day, at the local job she had picked up and gathering up what she could in terms of materials and food. She constantly had to move from place to place and find new jobs, scrounging around for anything she could get. Walking back from work she had stopped in to buy some supplies and was heading back to her small, temporary apartment. She moved quickly, always checking around for out of the ordinary people, before rushing up and into her apartment. She promptly sat down in her chair, turning on the television, and then proceeding to let out a large sigh. She deciding to shape shift into a cat and got cozy in her favorite part of the seat. She used her paw to calmly flip through channels until she arrived at the news, trying to relax after another hard day at work. There was a strange story about some sort of event that involved the military and the far western desert. She shrugged, only half listening as she squirmed around, and then jumped down and changed back to her human form in order to get something to eat.

Shysie didn’t want to get out of bed. It was cold, winter was finally here, and she knew what that meant. She would once again socially struggle while Ophelia was in hibernation. Her mother called to her, telling her to come down for breakfast. She just rolled over and tried to snooze more. Her cat jumped up and started to pounce all over her. “Guess I have no more time to sleep in,” she said to herself as she pushed the cat off the bed. She rolled out and got changed, putting on her custom hoodie with thin, hidden, internal fabric tunnels sewn in for Ophelia to squirm through. She walked downstairs to her mother. “Good morning Shysie.” Her mother said, her face beaming as always. “You’re quite the sleepy head this morning, you have to hurry up and head off to school.” She nodded as her mother then continued to cook for her. Ophelia, who was out cold on her shoulder, stirred a bit at the smell of eggs and meat cooking.

           For those that are confused, Ophelia is Shysie’s well…companion. She is a small little lamia, part snake and part human, with a blue tail and a real knack for social interaction. Without her, Shysie couldn’t function properly out in the masses of people that crowd her school. It wasn’t her fault that she was socially awkward or impaired, it was just…her. But that had all changed when she found the little lamia shivering in the cold, roughly 3 years ago on her way to school, near a piece of local architecture. Shysie was, at first, utterly terrified at the sight of her. However, realizing that the small creature was suffering she quickly took her in and helped her. In return the small creature had become her friend and an essential part of her social life. Ophelia taught her how to act and behave, allowing for Shysie to function better.
