We hope Mel and Frank are ready to go through the wringer, because every Monday and Friday from August 3rd to August 28th they will be enduring
Angsty Kingdon August!
This is an event entirely centered around putting Mel and Frank through angsty situations, so a trigger warning is definitely in place! There’s going to be some pretty dark content that comes out of this, so if that’s not something you want to see then go ahead and block our blog and our tag!
We will be having Mel Misery Mondays and Frank Forlornness Fridays! These are just suggestions to inspire you (and because who doesn’t love alliteration?). You do not need to choose Mel as your main subject for Monday and vice versa. These will be the days of the week that you upload your creations. Anything posted outside of the designated days will be scheduled to be reblogged on Saturday the 29th!
Each week has two prompts to help guide your creative process! The prompts will follow the blank/blank format and it is up to you to decide which one to use for each day (or use both!). For example- if the prompt is illness/injury, you could give Mel an injury on Monday, and Frank an illness on Friday, vice-versa, or give them both an illness and injury. It is also up to you whether you post/create something for both days, as you are invited to post just on Monday or just on Friday. This is all about having fun (and tormenting our fav characters), so feel free to take inspiration from what you want and leave the rest!
MONDAY THE 3RD & FRIDAY THE 7TH
-Grief/Addiction
MONDAY THE 10TH & FRIDAY THE 14TH
-Miscommunication/Hanahaki
MONDAY THE 17TH & FRIDAY THE 21ST
-Touch Starvation/Smangst
MONDAY THE 24TH & FRIDAY THE 28TH
-Angst With A Happy Ending/Free Choice
Check out the prompts post for further details on these!
Do you want them to be doomed to an eternity of sadness? Leaving them stranded forever in the torment nexus? Go ahead, you can do that! Do you want their story to resolve and for them to both live happily ever after? Do you want to give them the joy canon never could? Go ahead, you can do that too! It’s up to you to decide whether the angst is eternal or gets resolved with comfort! Just please be sure to tag your fics accordingly!
We have created a collection on ao3 that you can add your fics to here. Please use our hashtag #angstykingdonaugust2026 and tag us @angstykingdonaugust. We will be reblogging your creations all throughout the month and can't wait to see what you come up with!
Check out our Rules and FAQ post for any unanswered questions.
We are so excited for you to participate and help the summer months of the hiatus go by just a little faster!
Fandom shit is just straight up not fun when everyone interprets everything in the worst possible faith and acts deliberately obtuse for the sole purpose of getting mad online
It’s always you straggots trying to push pregnancy on any woman in your m/f ships oh my god Mel king would not do that!! You just want to use her for you nasty fucking breeding kinks and shit
Mel King is not a real person, I can do whatever I want with her in my mind palace.

Pittsburgh, 1957.
Dr. Frank Langdon a renowned—currently disgraced, thanks to both a plagiarism accusation and a medicine cabinet full of barbiturates—sexologist and biologist, is seeking professional funding for research regarding human sexuality. Melissa “Mel” King is the nursing school dropout hired as his secretary, who soon becomes his research assistant—helping him conduct interviews and hook-up participants to wired heart monitors while they performed different sexual acts. They’re doing important research, debunking commonly held myths about biologies and sexual proclivities…but their research figures are skewed.
“We need more women for the study,” Dr. Langdon says and Mel…well…she would follow her boss anywhere.
“You could interview me? It’s only a two-page questionnaire. I have no problems being recorded on tape. It’s in the name of science after all. Do you object, Dr. Langdon?”
His wedding ring cuts into his skin; he’s never wanted to take it off more. “No, Mel. I…” A bead of sweat drips down under her blouse and Frank imagines its path trailing between her breasts, onto her stomach, her pelvic bone. “When do you want to start?”
i've used that line before — priest!frank excerpt for @francislangdon. nsfw, underage, grooming, mel thinks she has an accident again. father langdon helps :)
“Father,” she whispered as she could feel the shame crawling up her neck, warming the tips of her ears. Tears welled in the corners of her eyes and visions of his disappointed, downturned face had her heart pounding. He had been so kind to trust her, to let her sleep next to him knowing she’d been having trouble, and she didn’t want to repay him like this. She wanted to be good. She wanted him to be proud of her.
Usually, when she had an accident, she woke right away and could feel the warmth of what she’d done between her legs. But now her thighs were cold and it was only one small patch that was wet and sticky, right in the middle of her underwear. Her stomach sank as she wondered how long she’d been laying there with her mess drying on herself and his sheets.
Father Langdon groaned sleepily and turned towards her. She could smell the sleep on his breath as he moved.
“What is it, baby?”
He called her that sometimes when they were alone. The way he handled it, so deep and easy, baby, had her wanting to hear it over and over. It wasn’t like when her mother called her that, sweet and singsong. It wasn’t like that at all.
She inched closer to him, afraid of the distance they were apart.
“There’s something …” she trailed off, unsure of how to put it. “I think I had another accident.” Though she’d just had one, earlier tonight. She’d had a glass of water Father Langdon offered her after he put her sheets in the wash, but she never went in his bed before.
He didn’t open his eyes but reached out for her, patting the bed. He gathered her into his arms and tucked her in to him, chest to chest.
Mel loved when he cuddled. Though, only in the middle of the night. They never started out this way, but often ended up like it, holding each other in some way come morning. Father Langdon usually gently moved her away from him, untangling their limbs without a word. She breathed in deep where she was nestled into his neck. He smelled so good she wishes she could bottle it and wear it, walk around with him on her always, not just so she could smell it but so other people could, too. She wanted everyone to know she was Father Langdon’s favorite, his best girl, the girl he let crawl into his bed, the girl he walked with hand in hand for ice cream after mass on Sundays.
His hand slid down her back and hit her hips before his palm came around to her front. He warmed her stomach, just beneath her belly button, and let his hand rest there. She could feel him press on her slightly, flexing his fingers like he was kneading her.
“Where, Mellie,” he muttered, sleep breath ghosting over the top of her head. She felt the rumble in his chest against her breasts as he spoke. “Here?”
He grabbed at her stomach again with more force.
“No,” she said, shaking her head. Her tears spilled over, nervous for when he woke up enough to realize what she was really saying. She wasn’t sure he was understanding. “Down …”
She couldn’t tell him. It was already embarrassing enough to come into his room and have to go show him her mess. To have him hold her close and let her feel the warmth of him, the steady beat of his heart, the solid embrace of his arms—it confused her and threw her off course. She felt hot and overwhelmed.
“Oh? Down here?”
He moved his hand further down, angling it so he could cup her, the heel of his palm pressing over her and holding here there, between her thighs. She startled, going stiff in his arms. She couldn’t believe he was touching her there. No one had ever even seen that part of her besides her family, let alone touched her there. She couldn’t move, shocked and scared and unsure.
She knew he could feel it. The wetness there, the cold spot on her underwear and pants. He squeezed her and he bumped something that made her whimper unwillingly, completely out of her control.
“Oh, baby girl, don’t worry about that,” he groaned. She’d never heard him like this before. He sounded so pleased. She couldn’t understand why. “That’s not your fault.”
The relief that washed over her was too much, and she began to cry in earnest, wet sobs taking over her body. She hiccuped and wheezed while she tried to catch her breath in his arms. He wouldn’t let her go.
“Mellie,” he soothed, rubbing his hand back and forth, confusing her. Whatever he was touching felt so good. “You don’t have to cry, it’s okay baby, I’m here, daddy’s here.”
She didn’t know what to make of what was happening. His hand felt unbelievable on her, holding her so possessively, a way she desperately wanted and yearned for, but she couldn’t stop crying. She felt both safe and lost in his arms, feeling things she had no name for. It was like reaching out blindly in the dark—like one of her nightmares. But then he was there, calling her baby, kissing the top of her head.
She wanted so badly not to be alone.
“Daddy,” she whimpered, and let the comfort that brought wash over her. “Daddy, help me.”
She liked how it felt to be pathetic in his arms and cry out for him.
i just learned that this person is using art that isn’t theirs for this binding. i’m not sure if they asked the artist for permission, but i know they didn’t ask me, so that leads me to assume the same is true for the artist. i don’t tend to get super up in arms about this sort of thing (obviously, see previous reply lol), but i never want to make assumptions on behalf of other creators, so:
i think things like this are so, so cool for personal use, but it’s essential to ask an artist or writer or whomever first, especially when you’re presenting their work as your own. the same way i don’t agree with writers/creators being put on a pedestal and presented as the only “right” interpreters of canon or characters, i also wish we would treat all of our creators a little more humanely. we’re just people, doing something for free and for fun, and sometimes it feels like that gets lost (even if it’s intended positively).

I feel bad that future teens won't have the cw everyone needs to get unnaturally obsessed with an Objectively Bad teen soap with mid level production and the worst dialogue you've ever heard (you write 100k worth of fanfic for this and argue about the show on tumblr dot com)
im also curious about if you would be willing to share the outline of a fic (rivers and roads is a personal favorite) i would love to see the behind the scenes of your writing process! as much or as little as you'd be willing to share!
always happy to answer questions!!!
i am not a consistent outliner, as much as i might wish to be! usually with fic writing, at least, i usually have some kernel of an idea - whether it's dialogue or a specific scene - that serves as my jumping off point, and it helps me to get that down on paper and then tease out the narrative that way. a lot of the time, i have a vague sense of where i want the fic to go, and once i start writing, the idea morphs! that's part of the fun for me.
i wish i still had my r&r outline because it is one of the few fics that i did do this for! but i literally did it in my notes app like a crazy person, lol. mostly, i used the notes app as a space to jot down random snippets of prose/dialogue that i thought of when i was away from my computer ("you're not his wife, mel. i am." "then act like it." or whatever that exchange is was something that was in my brain from the very beginning, so it lived in that note until i could tease out where it should go, for example!)
from there, i did use it to give myself a sense of timeline and the major plot points which then i moved around to structure the chapters. so i had a section that literally just listed out the years, their ages/years in school, and their physical locations during those times; and then there was another section where i loosely listed out the scenes i wanted in each chapter.
but to give a sense of how i generally let my writing influence the process: when i started r&r, i had no idea what povs i was going to do or in what order, and i initially had a different plan for how ch 3 and 4 were going to play out. but after doing some writing (and talking with some wonderful people, and thinking about what i generally wanted the reader to see/experience) i decided to have alternating povs & switched a few things around to make the scenes work better for me. my even less formal version of this is to do brief sentences/narratives of what i want to come next after finishing a section so i don't forget what i was planning hahaha - like with city baby, i remember typing out specific things like "next scene will be this, next scene will be this" without anything written around it, just so i knew what my thought process was when finishing/starting!
i hope this helps or is interesting! @miracle-and-wonder has a really great process that seems to work well for her, so tagging her in in case she wants to share!
ETA found an outline of mine that i’ll throw under the cut!
okay this is only part of it because spoilers 🤪 but this is what i mean by ROUGH OUTLINE hahahahha
Hello I am here to talk about the glory that is Chaos Draft (or as other folks might call it: Draft Zero)
Hannah is the sweetest person alive for thinking my process is impressive because to me, I feel like the Charlie Day meme whenever I am getting my thoughts in order. I do this for any fic I think is going to be longer than about 10k where the idea of starting with a blank page makes me feel like I'm going to scratch my skin off because I am so overwhelmed.
And also as Hannah eloquently said in a previous post, this is just MY process and I'm not an expert! I am a person with an email job who does this for fun, and what works for me might not work for you and that's totally fine, but if you are curious what it all looks like for me, under the cut we go:
The main purpose of Chaos Draft is based off advice I got from a writing workshop I took a few years ago where the first person you need to tell your story to is YOU. You are your first audience member. You do not know what's going to happen, so you have to start there.
When I first started with Dirtbags, I felt SO scared of how big I knew it was going to be, so I started really small with just bullet points in my Notes app with what I knew I wanted to happen and key scenes and lines. In those initial notes are the "I love yous" at the end of part one, the wedding scene, and the callback to him being her "guard dog." For me, I just needed to get a sense of the structure, the beginning and end, and those really big ideas.
Once I have those really basic details done, Chaos Draft can start.
My outlines are sometimes as long as normal fics. To give you some numbers, the Chaos Draft for Dirtbags is 27,000 words. For my current WIP that I'm expecting to come in at around 50k, it's 11,500 And also, it's NOT just plot. I use the Chaos Draft to workshop titles, figure out tags, put in song lyrics and quotes for epigraphs, and just have a place to put in any loose thoughts or quotes that pop up, but then after that is where I'm telling myself the story.
There is no prose here. There are sometimes headers to keep it organized ("Mel gets sick" or "First day working on the show") but mostly it's just pure stream-of-consciousness writing as if I am sitting across from a friend telling them what's going on. It's very silly, mostly dialogue-heavy, and a lot of "Then he says" and "Then she goes" and "Then they decide to" and so on. I also find it very fun because I can use WORDS FOR EMPHASIS and little bits of commentary (in the Dirtbags Chaos Draft when he calls her "baby" after Robby finds the drugs my note says "he switches from sweetheart to baby because that feels like an evil thing for me to do") and it only has to make sense to me! This is ME telling MYSELF the story!!
I also like doing this because it gives me a lot of flexibility to add and fix things as I go. If I figure out a fun callback, I can just add a line up in the beginning. I don't have to do a bunch of rewriting or restructuring. I seriously messed up when working on the Dirtbags timeline, and I ended up making Post-It notes to figure out all the time jumps in part 2 (of which Hannah was INVALUABLE helping me as I was in her DMs freaking out), but at the end of it, I didn't have to do a ton of rewriting because I realized it was happening while still in the Chaos Draft.
Also, the whole time I'm doing this, I'm in people's DMs. I'm sending voice notes like podcasts. All of my fics are very much group projects, and literally every person I've ever talked about writing/fic with has made my writing better. All it takes is ONE insane DM session and then a wall that you've been facing is broken down, new ideas are made, encouragement to make it even FREAKIER and KINKIER is given. It's just the best part, honestly.
After that is the real writing. When I'm working with a Chaos Draft, I can write a few thousand words a day when I'm really locked in because the "hard part" is done. I wrote the ENTIRETY of Dirtbags in about seven weeks because I had all the ideas and it was just about making them readable.
And again, I KNOW this won't work for everyone. I have a very dear friend and excellent beta (@ohwhatagloomyshow) who's told me that she just wouldn't write the next draft because the story is told which is fair!! I admire anyone who can go straight from idea to prose because that is just not how my brain works, and I have to do this whole convoluted process instead!!
im also curious about if you would be willing to share the outline of a fic (rivers and roads is a personal favorite) i would love to see the behind the scenes of your writing process! as much or as little as you'd be willing to share!
