Magneto's Legacy
Who should be the one to carry Magneto's legacy? Choose wisely.
Polaris
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
Storm
Rogue
Exodus
The right answer would be Polaris. Why? Because she's Magneto's daughter and only his kids should carry on. Fortunately, only Polaris is his real kid so I voted for her because no one more than she deserved the crown. Wolverine and the X-Men brought the perfect example of who Magneto trusted the most. Polaris is still her OWN character and it doesn't mean she will have to be "Magneta" when she can lead this legacy to another path. A better path in a good way. Even better than Magneto. Obviously, Magneto and Polaris are two different individuals with the same ability but with two different personalities, hearts and thoughts. Polaris would probably do what Magneto always wanted but in her own way. She's more about getting it right, than just getting it done.
The rest are out of the question. Let alone Storm. I don't know why she was even on the list when she couldn't defend Arakko. She can't be the Queen of the House of M. Not even in millions of years. I'd take Storm out and put Joshep.
Exodus comes close second but even he can't lead this legacy to a better path. Don't forget that Exodus attempted to kill the human Luna for failing to live up to Magneto's genetics. This is something that neither Magneto nor Polaris would have accepted.
I hope Polaris wins because really she is the right choice.
"She's more about getting it right, than just getting it done." Absolutely! That's the difference between the two of them.
The Rightful Heir
Hello Everyone: Today I want to talk about the relationship between a daughter and a father. I already discussed the crucial importance of a dad (Please bear with me for the next few minutes because you are about to read the most self-indulgent column I have ever written and as I’ve been writing these for the past few odd years, that’s really saying something). I also want to talk about Marvel and its writers because, like most of you, something caught my attention.
The matter first came to my attention when I read X-Men Red by Al Ewing. In fact, one of several ways it came to my attention was the exclusion of Polaris from Magneto's death in X-Men Red #7. Instead Magneto dies in Storm's arms. WHAT?
Ain't this kind of ridiculous? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Magneto dying in the arms of someone other than his own daughter. I'm sure Cullen Bunn would have portrayed this differently.
How did Magneto die? Well, in X-Men Red #5, Uranos ripped Magneto’s heart out, but he used his powers to make the blood flow throughout his body. With the help of Storm, Magento stayed alive long enough to defeat Uranos and defend Arakko.
Magneto dies and doesn't want resurrection. Even without the backups, he’d come back but Magneto refused. One thing he did not refuse was to leave his daughter behind. That was the first that drew my attention. The Second was when Magneto has Storm make him a promise. He asks her to watch over Xavier. WHAT? Am I missing something? A concern for Xavier but not for his daughter? I'm sure in his mind Lorna is a strong woman and can take care of herself but still. Magneto's death should mean a lot more to Polaris than it did to Storm. The funny part is that not only does Polaris show no sign of sadness, but the whole X-team hasn't shown any sign of grief. At this point, Magneto didn't get a proper funeral, to say the least.
Ewing couldn't even bother to have Polaris's name mentioned in his book. It also struck me that he acknowledges Wanda and Anya as Magneto's daughters but not Lorna? If I understand correctly, Polaris is the only biological daughter of Magneto who is still very much alive. So instead Ewing had Magneto be concerned about Xavier's well-being but not a single concern or message for Lorna? I would hate to postulate why this could even be. I was so confused because Magneto (as well as all the others) was so out of character. The dynamic between a father and daughter is one of the most heart-warming and intense bonds.
Fathers are their daughters’ superheroes, right? They can do anything to bring a smile to their daughters' faces, making father-daughter relationships unique and wholesome. Cullen Bunn did this when he put them together to have dinner like father and daughter would. Taking her out for dinner, offering her ice cream, etc. The bond reflects the daughter’s personality, which develops through the various stages of the girl’s life. A father’s influence helps shape the daughter’s upbringing and life, so it is essential to protect this relationship. But Ewing only went to destroy the dynamic between father and daughter (just like Leah did) that Bunn created and made it look like Polaris wasn't Magneto's daughter or that she didn't even exist. From my perspective, Ewing made it look like Magneto never cared about Lorna. I don't think he likes Polaris or perhaps he doesn't understand or have the ability to write her? The way I see it, Al expressed his characteristic through Magneto, period.
Also, is it just me, or does anyone else feel like "_ and the Brotherhood of Mutants" would be a more appropriate title for the daughter of Magneto? POLARIS and the Brotherhood of Mutants? I guess the question is why Al thinks this position is a good fit for Storm? As X-Men's Sins of Sinister event arrives, Storm is leading the new mutant Brotherhood with a costume redesign that puts her in Magneto's role.
Not only did Ewing take the rights away from Polaris but gave Storm an aspect of Magneto's costume and the base which is the same as Asteroid M except this one is Asteroid S instead of Asteroid P, lol.
I don't like the idea of Storm carrying Magneto's legacy. I don't like the idea of Storm taking over a title that belongs very much to Polaris. I don't like the idea of Storm inheriting Lorna's rights and stealing her throne. I don't like the idea of how Al Ewing is making Storm have the right to take over as if his biological daughter wouldn't matter to him or Magneto or Lorna's fans as a whole. I don't even like the idea of Storm mocking Polaris by taking everything that she has worked hard for during her time with her father. I don't care if this takes place 10 years or 100 years or 1000 years from now. As the rightful heir to an inheritance, Polaris is considered the most logical to have the right to receive assets from her deceased father. Ewing clearly demonstrates to us that he thinks Polaris has nothing to offer. Well, if I'm honest, I think it's a big mistake on his part. I am curious as to what Al had in mind for this story because based on his writing, you might conclude it just doesn't feel authentic.
Let's talk about who we expected to take over after Magneto's death in X-Men Red and let's face it, we all know the Queen of Mutants is the rightful heir to do so. You see, Cullen Bunn (using Bunn again because he has more respect for Polaris and continuity) gave Lorna the right to lead the mutants after Magneto died from the Terrigen mists 5 years from now, in the not-too-distant future (from when it was written).
Polaris spoke like a leader. She spoke like the Queen of Mutants. She spoke like her dad and stood up for what she (and her dad) believed. I believe Polaris is the best suited to this role. No question. There are many reasons why. She and her father went through thick and thin together. She helped her dad on many occasions. She helped her dad keep Genosha in place. She saw firsthand Genosha's genocide (just like her dad). She more than anyone understands Magneto's philosophy of "look after your own." She will do ANYTHING to protect the mutants. She put her life on the line for the sake of her fellow mutants. She will not get stabbed in her back, lol.
How can Ewing not know that? Doesn't he know how important it is to follow continuity? Was he not allowed to use Polaris for his useless story? And got mad? Storm is not Magneto's daughter and has no right to act like it. He has an anti-Polaris going on in his book. Ewing's writing is awful. Bunn would have done this better, respectfully. Marvel should've handed X-Men Red to Cullen Bunn, given that he was fantastic in X-Men Blue. He was also awesome in his Magneto solo series. Let me show you a panel where Magneto practically told his daughter he will not let her die with him because she has great things to offer this world. Obviously, she will be his legacy.
Bunn did so many good things for Lorna. He left so many open doors for her that I hope one day he can return to work for Marvel and finish what he started. I'm sure he had more plans for Lorna and good ones.
Anyways, I think it's time for me to give my thoughts on Al Ewing as a whole. So what do I think of him personally? Well…. I think he’s kind of an overrated writer. He is legitimately a bad writer. He's not even mediocre and his odd and mentally disturbed thinking that Storm should be the one to carry the title that very well belongs to Polaris is very beyond belief. The problem is that Al Ewing is kind of lazy about continuity. Perhaps he was not allowed to use Polaris, as she's been busy with other writers lately. Perhaps he's a fanboy of those he writes. Perhaps he's a troll trying to hurt Lorna's fans. One thing is for sure he's a terrible writer who tries to erase Lorna from her right to lead a legacy that many of us long to see. We saw it with Bunn and a few others how she's the rightful heir of the House of M. Even Magneto told her she represents the House of M at all times. It’s straight-up fact that Al Ewing isn't that good with events. The majority of his comic book series aren't memorable. And finally, the reason why he’s overrated is because of Immortal Hulk. Sorry Immortal Hulk Fans, but it's true. You can't say that Al Ewing is a great writer when you only read ONE of his series and ignore the rest. You need to read the majority of his series to understand. Just like X-Men Red is getting TOO MUCH credit for nothing when he didn't give anything to their fans. He couldn't give a fair battle to Vulcan and Storm. The first time Storm beat Vulcan was because according to Al "she only fought the shell…"
I guess now we can say Storm is being used generally to benefit the main character. She's representing Magneto and that's how we unfortunately see her. Especially since she's not related to the man she's representing it's even more obvious she's the extension of Magneto and not herself. Again, it doesn't feel authentic for the character. Polaris, on the other hand, would be a natural choice. Polaris is the actual rightful heir, do you think she'll be GOOD at the job? Of course, she's extraordinarily powerful, and the truth of her origin lies deeper than what we had thought. She was the next legitimate heir to the throne after Magneto. The crown is her right. She earned it.
Then we have Stephanie Williams (I don't know who the hell she is) having Storm visit Scarlet Witch with her not having much to say about Magneto's death, let alone Polaris. We know this was a setup to say "Storm can do magic" and nothing more.
Storm went to inform Scarlet Witch (who is not Magneto's biological daughter) how Magneto died. Shouldn't she tell Polaris first? Telling Wanda "if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to reach out." WHAT? Since when does Wanda need the X-Men? Hasn't Storm considered how Polaris might feel about her dad's death? Has she considered her feelings at all? Knowing what he did is something Polaris would have admired and been proud of because she would have done it too. Sacrifice her life for others. You know when you feel really unsure about what to say or think about? As confused as you may feel in those moments, you're not. You have much more clarity than you think. But I am a little confused about how to proceed with this.
As far as I know, neither of those writers cares about the existence of Polaris. Ewing is a disgrace to Lorna's fans and acting like Polaris is not enough for the role that is specifically made for her is more than a big slap on her fan's faces. Polaris is an incredibly iconic and powerful mutant in her own right, already an established leader of the X-Men, X-Factor, Starjammers, etc, and former Princess of House of M as well as Queen of Mutants. Enough already; for shame, Ewing.
I also posted it on Twitter.

Another year has passed, and another year has come. With 2023 just getting started, it's the perfect time for Marvel to begin setting new career goals and success for Polaris. I wish for us fans that, with every year, we achieve all of our dreams. I know Polaris will continue to wow us because the best is yet to come. Every moment is a fresh beginning.
So what exactly are we expecting to see this year? What does Marvel have in store for (us fans) Dr. Polaris? What story are we expecting to see coming? Up to this point, we know Polaris is in Captain Marvel fighting the Brood.
Captain Marvel #45 (2023)
The Brood saga is on the rise and as we all know Polaris is among Captain Marvel’s team fighting through the rescue of Rogue and Binary serving as second in command. The treatment and attention she is getting now are phenomenal.
Bishop: War College #1 (2023) Hidden Gem Variant by Stroman and Portaci
Marvel is already promoting Polaris (and not Havok) with another variant cover featuring her 90s X-Factor team. There is not enough information about this story or if Polaris will ever participate. Hopefully, we get to know more soon.
X-Men #19 Lord of The Brood, Part 1 and Captain Marvel #46 Revenge of The Brood, Part 4 (2023) connecting covers by Juan Frigeri
As I stated before, Marvel announced both series will have one giant connecting cover by Juan Frigeri. The covers for X-Men 19-21 and Captain Marvel 46-48 will connect for a brand-new Brood Saga! It’s nice to have once again a connecting cover with Lorna in it. It’s not quite clear if Polaris will be in the X-Men book but from what we know she’s on the X-Men cover.
Marvel Graphic Comic Box Captain Marvel/X-Men (2023)
Don’t forget to stop by your local comic store and order these since it’s already available to buy. I already bought 3 boxes. I mean look at it.
Captain Marvel #48 (2023) Sneak Peek by Sergio Davila
Interesting. We won’t know anything about this til April. I wonder what are they looking at. A giant Brood? Captain Marvel? Rogue? Binary? UGH, I can’t wait to know what exactly is going on here.
Scarlet Witch #2 (2023)
Lorna’s letter to Wanda in Scarlet Witch #2. How excited to know Polaris will appear in issue #3!
Scarlet Witch #3 (2023)
This cover is everything. I am obsessed with Russell’s Polaris. The aura around Lorna and the light from Wanda’s hex really make this piece pop! I’m literally holding my breath for a Polaris Dauterman costume cover!!
Polaris by Angel Solorzano
What an amazing piece. Very nice!
X-Men #20 Lord of The Brood, Part 2 and Captain Marvel #47 Revenge of The Brood, Part 5 (2023) connecting covers by Juan Frigeri
The Brood Saga continues. Hopefully Rogue is back, since we can see her on the cover. I hope Jean or Carol don’t get possessed.
Captain Marvel #46 (2023) sneak peek by Javier Pina
I love the fact that Lorna and Laura have been close lately. Their interactions are awesome. Remember the fastball? Interesting!
Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game: X-Men Expansion (2024)
2023 has barely started and Marvel already got something coming for 2024. The best part is that Polaris is included. The Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game: Core Rulebook, will be on sale August 2, 2023. Great for hardcore tabletop RPG fans.
Scarlet Witch #3 (2023) Preview OMG, Lorna looks GORGEOUS!!
The fact that we once again are getting another moment of the sisters meeting up is awesome. The sisters are going to meet and help a mysterious woman who came searching for help.
We don’t know much about this new character so I can’t wait to meet her. It looks like they will be facing an ugly witch while Lorna will be facing a bunch of little creatures? Can’t wait to see it.
Hopefully, Polaris will be there for a few more issues because I’m hoping to see if they acknowledge Magneto’s death. The fact that Polaris hasn’t shown any sign of grief seems out of character. In the last issue, Wanda showed no sign of despair either. Hmmm, I will talk about X-Men Red #7 soon.
Scarlet Witch #3 (2023) variant cover by Nabetse Zitro
Don’t forget to grab this beautiful variant of the sisters.
Marvel Snap Cards Variants Chibi Polaris by G-Angle
The chibis are my favorite variants. They are so adorable. Polaris in particular. I stated before there were a few more of Lorna’s Snap Cards and this is one of them. So cute.
Fan art by browll
What a cute Polaris. She really has style. I really miss her classic outfit.
X-Men #19 (2023) the first connecting cover by Juan Frigeri
Finally, the book is here and I’m sure most of you wonder why Polaris is on the cover when she’s not even in this book, right? Well, if you missed something, I suggest you reread the book once again. Only Lorna’s fans would be able to see it quickly. I know I did. There is a reason why Lorna is on the cover. There is something hidden from our eyes. Something is coming and I can feel it. Gerry Duggan seems to be preparing something and I mean SOMETHING BIG and MEMORABLE. Forge and Monet entered a gate to knowhere and it seems they flashed by many realities? Timelines? Future? Past? Present? The first thing they see appears to be Polaris on top of a huge rock.
No? You don’t think it’s Polaris? Well, I see Polaris in space protected by her Magnetic Exoskeleton. I see her headdress and cape. I see she’s firing off an energy blast, she’s smothered by a huge light green glow. She's using her Magnetism ability in space like she did many times before.
We can’t deny the woman on the rock is Lorna Dane AKA Dr. Polaris. Oh boy, I wonder what Gerry’s plans are.
Marauders #11 (2023)
Surprisingly, Lorna came to help the group. Kitty called her and I am glad to see her with Kitty. Steve Orlando might have a reason to invite her to his book. Although she will be in his Scarlet Witch’s book. How exciting to see more writers using her. It’s been a while since I saw her in her beautiful classic outfit.
Captain Marvel #46 (2023)
Oh My Gosh. Polaris looks gorgeous under Javier Pina‘s pencil. I love this team! I love everything about their friendship! “Feeling’s mutual.” Lorna holding the Brood back and simultaneously throwing Laura around! I love it!! Lorna and Laura have been working together for quite some time. They work very well together. They hangout and go shopping together. They seem to be good friends.
X-FACTOR BY PETER DAVID OMNIBUS VOL. 3 HC BRADSHAW COVER [DM ONLY] ON SALE 08/09/23
Nice to see Marvel promoting an X-Factor book with Polaris on the cover front and center. That’s right! I am definitely getting this book.
Marauders #12 (2023) Preview
WOW! Polaris looks spectacular. Oh, how I miss her classic outfit. We don’t know much about this story so I will leave it here. What we do know is that Polaris created a metal box and she kind of fashioned it with an X sign. AGAIN :)
I wonder if all those souls are going into that tiny box that Polaris created. Aren’t those the souls that were inside Polaris during the ruin of Genosha? Kitty finally reunites with a specter of her father. I can’t wait to find out more next month.
Scarlet Witch #3 (2023)
ENTER POLARIS! In this issue, Scarlet Witch teams up with Polaris in a fight to save part of Sub-Atomica. Another moment that caught my attention was how Polaris helped Wanda and Mardj here. It’s so nice to finally see the sisters thriving and doing so together in their own ways. Polaris and Scarlet Witch have an epic experience in Sub-Atomica, going on to help craft a mysterious sword and go to a mysterious location. Them combining their powers is phenomenal.
In the end, we also get a great moment between sisters where Polaris’s affirmation of Scarlet Witch and her being enough almost brought a tear to my eye. There is just so much about this issue that is amazing and it has to be experienced to really understand and get the full impact.
Nightcrawlers: Sins of Sinister #2 (2023)
Despite Lorna not being in any of the Sins of Sinister story, surprisingly her name was mentioned as a chimera. She was a combination of Legion and Proteus. So we have three most powerful mutants created by Sinister. This took place 100 years since the Sinister era began.
Captain Marvel #47 (2023)
The brood arc in Captain Marvel has been a blast so far, reuniting Captain Marvel with her old allies, the X-Men. You expect Captain Marvel to get some of the spotlight in her own book, but what's most impressive in Captain Marvel #47 is how much attention the rest of the cast gets in such an action packed adventure. Polaris, in particular, where she continues to be a series MVP. The team were split in 2 groups and Lorna ended up leading the second team. The action is awesome and I love the character interactions.
Marauders #12 (2023)
The scene of Polaris crafting together the box is absolutely beautiful. She created a holy moment and truly saved the day. I like the fact that Orlando included Lorna for this event. Kitty and Lorna are good friends.
Let me point out that the Scarlet Witch #3, Nightcrawlers #2, Captain Marvel #47 and Marauders #12 all came out in March alone. How delightful to see her in more than one comic a month.
Captain Marvel #48 (2023)
Captain Marvel is heading towards its epic finale, and we’re here for a surprise. Carol fights an internal battle with the Brood while the rest of her friends fight to free her from them. I love how Polaris is portrayed here. I love Thompson’s take on the character. she truly shines throughout the book.
X-Men #19 (2023) 2nd Printing by Juan Frigeri
X-Men #19 sells out and gets a second printing with a recolored cover! The green with a black and grey background looks amazing!!
Scarlet Witch #3 (2023) 2nd Printing by Sara Pichelli
This issue was so damn good that it also went for 2nd printing. Marvel took this from page 9 and made it a cover. Nice to see Lorna in it.
Captain Marvel #49 (2023)
The long running “Revenge Of The Brood” storyline has finally reached its end. Carol was shown stepping up and doing what she needed to do to put an end to the conflict with the Brood Empress. Everyone gets a moment to shine and it’s not just Carol who walks away with significant emotional development. Lorna interacting with Carol and most of the crew have been a dream come true.
Art by Stuart Seyger
He truly has a beautiful style. I love everything about this art. She absolutely looks gorgeous. I’d buy this in a heart beat.
Check out an all-new variant cover for 'Fantastic Four' #700 by Scott Koblish
I can only imagine how insane he went when drawing so many characters in one page. You may wonder if Polaris is in it and yes... she is on the cover.
Polaris and Havok during their time in the X-Factor. He went with the nostalgia of the 90s. Every single one of them are drawn from the 90s. I am getting this variant.
Captain Marvel #50 (2023)
Before I say anything just wanted to say Lorna looks absolutely GORGEOUS in this double page splash by Javier Pina.
It's been a wild ride over the course of 50 issues, but over that time, fans have had the opportunity to really get to know Carol Danvers in a way we never really have before. Issue #50 is a well-deserved victory lap for Thompson, who really uses this issue to wrap up the pieces of her story perfectly. Also, who really uses Polaris in several of her books during her time with Marvel. It was nice to see some X-Men got to participate in a popular book like Captain Marvel, Lorna in particular. She looks great in that party.
X-Men #24 (2023)
Finally a panel where Polaris acknowledged her father’s death. Jean came to check in on Lorna who was struggling with her father’s loss and everything that has been going on. Jean comforts her and keeping her calm and I am not gonna keep going because for this single panel is going to be continue on another page.
X-Men: Days of Future Past - Doomsday #1 (2023)
Polaris unexpectedly appears in this story. The issue reveals the events leading up to the timeless original DAYS OF FUTURE PAST story that's inspired spin-offs, films and more! Nice to see Marvel included Polaris.
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #96 (2023)
OMG, OMG, OMG. Where can we begin? This is an all-new story arc! "Control" Part 1. A mini series, if I may say. So happy to see Marvel is giving Polaris a lot of green lights because not only do we get to see Polaris in comic books, but also in Marvel Unlimited. A place where Marvel distributes their comic books via the internet. This mini is a must read and I will discuss this on a separate blog.
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #97 (2023)
"Control" Part 2. Polaris is confronted by Dani Moonstar and together they investigate about the deaths of three mutants. This is getting really good. Who would have thought Dani would appear in Lorna’s mini? I must say their interactions in Prisoner-X was good. I am so excited and can’t wait for the next chapter :)
X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 (2023) Variant Cover by George Perez
Despite Lorna not appearing in the third Gala party, she was at least granted a variant cover. Marvel letting us know that she was not forgotten and she will be going to better places. We already know the reason why she didn’t go was because she was grieving due to her father’s absence. This Gala party brought nothing good but a lot of deaths (I will be discussing about this).
Emma Frost: Queen of the Hellfire Gala (2023)
“Mutantkind's greatest party planner gives us a peek behind the flaming curtain as she prepares to hand off her Gala duties to the Stepford Cuckoos.” Nice to see Lorna’s first Hellfire Gala gown. These were gowns from 2021, when Polaris won the first vote EVER.
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #98 (2023)
"Control" Part 3. Polaris discovered Malice was using Dani Moonstar as her host. Or, so she thought. The truth is about to be revealed. I’m literally in love with this mini. I can’t wait for one day to see a Polaris solo.
X-Men #24 (2023)
X-Men: Days of Future Past - Doomsday #1 (2023)
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #96 (2023)
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #97 (2023)
X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 (2023) Variant Cover
Emma Frost: Queen of the Hellfire Gala (2023)
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #98 (2023)
All these came out in July alone. What a lovely month for us Lorna fans especially for me, given that July is my birthday month. Marvel gave me a wonderful gift. Thank you, Marvel.
X-Men #25 (2023)
Polaris was mentioned in this issue. Kitty asked Woofer to find her friends. Fortunately, Polaris is one of the big guns they need right now. So the search started with Polaris.
I also wonder where Polaris was, since she was last seen at the Treehouse. Then an evil maniac asshole burned the Treehouse down. Some think she might have died there but I know she must have escaped.
X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic Chapter #99 (2023)
"Control" Part 4: in this final chapter, Polaris comes to a confrontation with Mesmero, the very reason she was drawn back to New Mexico, but you need to read this in order to find out what happened. I will discuss about it, but not here. I am so, SO happy to finally say Polaris gets a mini series. The story is intriguing and I can’t wait for ya to read it.
Marvel's Voices X-Men (2023)
I bet no one expected her to have a cameo here. That said, Lorna has been appearing on variant covers, appearing as a cameo here and there and also, her name has been briefly mentioned here and there. Not to mention... mutants using her powers here and there. It’s almost as if Marvel misses her, lol.
Nostalgic.
60th Anniversary of the X-Men variant cover art for X-Men #26 (2023) by Jorge Molina
Another variant with Polaris in it. I must get this. So glad Marvel keeps adding her pretty much on everything :)
Scarlet Witch #8 (2023)
Polaris mentioned in Scarlet Witch #8. Nice. So far Gerry and Orlando brought the acknowledgement of Polaris knowing about her father’s death. We didn’t even need Al to do it since two excellent writers already did. HA!
X-Men #26 and Invincible Iron Man #10 Connecting Covers by Lucas Werneck
Yes, Lorna is all the way back there with the rest but at least she appears at Emma and Tony’s wedding. I’d rather see her back there than not included, right?
Fall Of The House Of X and Rise Of The Powers Of X (2024) art by Mark Brooks and Richard Isanove
As we know there is already plans ahead for this story launching in January 2024. Yes, Marvel confirmed that Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X would each be five-part limited series. Yes, Polaris is going to be a major part of it. So nice to see Mark finally drawing Polaris.
She looks Gorgeous. 'Nuff Said!
Art by Kurt Belcher
The artist drew this crazy piece where he added all the Marvel Universe’s characters. At first it was hard to distinguish each character but I’m glad I found Polaris.
What caught my eyes is Polaris wearing pieces of her outfit of throughout the years. From classic to modern. Interesting.
Wolverine #38 (2023) by David Nakayama Hellfire Exclusive Variant
Just when you thought you will not see her on another unrelated cover. Regardless of Lorna not being in Wolverine’s book, Marvel went along in giving her a variant cover for herself. This is unique as we can see her wearing a very nice outfit that we have not see her with yet. Can we assume this is what she’s going to wear after or during the Fall of X? Who knows? I literally like it.
X-Men #28 (2023) by Philip Tan Wraparound X-Men 60th Variant
Another unexpected cover with Polaris in it (keep it coming, Marvel), only this time Philip took us back to the 90s era. My favorite era of when Polaris was leading the X-Factor with Havok.
Scarlet Witch #10 (2023)
Polaris was once again mentioned in the final issue of Scarlet Witch’s book. Sadly, the book ends here but a new four-issue limited series of 'Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver' #1 launches in February 2024!
Here hoping for Orlando to include Polaris because I’d like to see this trio doing things and working together like bro and sis should. Apparently Orlando likes to include Polaris in his writing, so who knows what he has in store for us?
Fall of the House of X #2 (2024) by the amazing Pepe Larraz
O.M.G. She looks beautiful, powerful, wonderful, dutiful, wrathful, vengeful, faithful, skillful, mindful, thoughtful, prideful? And anything else you can think of that ends in ful, lol. Seriously, look at her. LOOK AT HER.
“NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT! The X-Men may be at their lowest spot, and they may be on the brink of complete eradication…but they are not going down without a fight! Polaris returns to guide the X-Men home, bringing a wicked surprise for Orchis! This epic tale split in two continues as the Krakoan Age nears its conclusion!”
Fall of the House of X #2 will be released February 2024. Be on the look out because I know you don’t want to miss this. Especially the haters :)
WOW. Look how 2023 ended for Lorna and how the 2024 will begin for her. There is a lot more that needs to be done but it feels like the X-offices are finally starting to treat Polaris like the premiere X-lady that she is. And as always, this is not the end. Many doors are opening for Lorna. See you in 2024. Happy New Years!
Hi Kelly, how you doing? I am extremely exited to know Polaris is finally in better hands (as well as Duggan's)! I love your book especially the team lineup. We love this duo! Polaris and Captain Marvel, YES!!
I have two simple questions: Anything big coming for Lorna? I know it's Captain Marvel's book but I'm curious, as she's been amazing under your pen. Also, I see she's on the X-Men cover crossover. Is she going to be in the X-Men book too? Thank you. Looking forward to the Brood Saga!
Hey! Thanks for reading. Glad you're enjoying it!
I've been having a lot of fun with Lorna. While I mapped out a pretty "big moment" for most of the cast in the arc, in Lorna's case I think her powerset is so big she's sort of naturally slotted into the second in command, which I think means there's less of a "huge moment" for her coming up, but she's sort of just consistently killing it from beginning to end. I really don't know how this team would have made it without her so far. Which feels right, y'know?
As for the crossover -- it's not a full-on typical crossover. It's more like the the X-Men are dealing with the Brood in their story and we're dealing with it in ours -- and they sort of come together in Captain Marvel #49. But I don't think the current Captain Marvel cast actually appears in the last X-Men issue that kicks into our 49 -- if they do it's probably just a little bit?
Wow, that sounds awesome! Can’t wait to read more and see what you have in store for my Green Goddess. Love to hear that she’s killin’ it; no one deserves it more, in my opinion. Still hope to see her in X-Men as well as Captain Marvel (and also anything else Mutant related, really, lol), but at least she’s on one of the XM covers. So happy to know she’s in your capable hands. Thanks for taking time out of your day to respond, I really appreciate it.
Polaris 2022
Just like that, another year has come and gone. 2022 is a year to go big and bold. Not a boom in everything, but certainly a lot of good things. If there’s one thing we can definitely look forward to in 2022, it’s that a slew of new events are about to hit us. The age of Polaris is certainly continuing in this new era :)
Marvel is going to open more doors for Lorna to shine with much more pleasure and excitement to come. Definitely a good time to be a Polaris fan. We're delighted to be able to continue seeing Lorna growing as a character.
X-Men #6 (2022) variant cover by Russell Dauterman
LOOK. AT. HER. What a strong personality. In spite of Polaris not being in this issue, she at least gets her own amazing cover (Marvel letting us know she is not forgotten). Dauterman can also draw her very nicely. I really love that drawing of Polaris! It's very refreshing to see other artists drawing her beautifully.
Devil's Reign: X-Men #1 (2022)
Polaris and John Walker? I find both of them equally interesting. We have US Agent with the Police force out in full. They're there to tell the X-Men that their Treehouse needs to be removed but fortunately, Polaris has made her arrival and she is just toying with John. More of this story is coming on a separate blog but I have to say how glad I am to know Lorna’s participating in this event.
The Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight #1 (2022)
In this event we see the X-Men have turned into demons. They are known as the Hungry Court, twisted and manipulated by the Hungry Land. Nice to see Polaris is wearing a cool costume.
A costume what could have been better for when she was part of the Four Horsemen. Her original Horsemen costume was terrible. Although Carmine Di Giandomenico nicely recreated the costume.
X-Men #7 (2022)
Despite Polaris not appearing in this issue, Marvel at least put her on the cover. Not only was she on the cover but her name was briefly mentioned.
The reason for Lorna, Jean and Anna being absent was because they were in Arakko doing other stuff. At the minimum Marvel is letting the readers know why these three powerful ladies were not participating.
So, for this January, Polaris gets an awesome variant cover for herself, appeared in 2 different (books) events, gets to be on another cover despite not being present but her name was mentioned and gets a cool costume. Good to see Lorna appearing in more than just one comic a month. I’m very pleased with what Marvel has been doing with Dr Polaris lately :)
Marvel Top 10 Comics
For those of you wondering how bad or good X-Men are doing here's a hint. X-Men is the #2 bestseller and that is without counting the comic book stores.
Marvel Officially Announces Avengers, X-Men, Eternals Crossover Judgment Day!
An upcoming event that will be release this summer 2022. I can't wait! I'm so excited! I can’t wait to see who Polaris will face from the Eternals.
Following the conclusion of Jonathan Hickman’s 4-issue Inferno, Marvel Comics’ X-Men line will move out of the Reign of X era and into Destiny of X.
I can only be sure Polaris will continue on the main X-Men tittle. Perhaps in a crossover/tie-in she will be on some of those titles listed above. So for the next stage of the X-line, we’re entering into the Second Age of the X-Men of Krakoa. Here's hoping to see Polaris go back to her iconic classic costume. Our excitement is making it tough to wait for these upcoming events.
Fantastic Four: Reckoning War Alpha #1 (2022)
We have the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four all working together trying to stop a new cosmic threat who has ties to the underwhelming Empyre event and is fostering war across the Universe for reasons revealed in this comic. Glad to see Polaris participating in another important event and seeing her with the Fantastic Four it’s more than amazing.
More Polaris fan art
How amazing to see more fans drawing more Lorna. There’s a lot lot more but I am not gonna post them all. It’s too many :)
X-Men fan art by Callum Laird!
Clearly he has style.
Reposting because this is coming out on 2/23/2022 so be aware, guys. Gwen Stacy gets X-Men inspired variant covers ahead of Spider Gwen: Gwenverse.
Rod Reis turns Gwen Stacy into Polaris, Dr Polaris in a stunning variant cover for Silver Surfer: Rebirth #2. I am definitely getting it.
Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse! variant cover by Chrissie Zullo!
Another amazing Gwenverse cover. I like the fact that where Gwen is impersonating Lorna is the only one with green hair while the rest are blonds. Zullo knows Lorna’s green hair is her signature :)
X-Men #9 (2022) Carnage Forever Variant Cover by Ron Lim
Throughout March, Marvel is proud to mark the 30th anniversary of CARNAGE with an all-new series of variant covers featuring the infamous Carnage symbiote sporting over a dozen different fan-favorite heroes as its latest hosts. One of them is Polaris and there is something unique about this. Duggan didn’t use Polaris in this issue but Marvel went ahead and gave her a cool cover of her own.
X-Men fan art by Adam Reck
Lorna’s green coffee cup looks cool.
X-Men #10 (2022)
Here, Wolverine was the highlight of the story. This one will delight Wolverine fans.
While this was a spotlight issue on Laura we do get to see more of the team showing that they are actively working to stop Orchis. Also, when they take bets on the success of her mission's plan where we see Polaris wins the bets against Rogue and Sunfire. I thought it was funny and cool.
Who Is... The Scarlet Witch Infinity Comic (2022)
It is nice to see Polaris included here. Cameo or not, I’m glad she’s being included with the House of M :)
Free Comic Book Day Judgement Day (2022)
Polaris made a cameo
“Free Comic Book Day Preview Sets the Stage for 'Judgement Day' and More Marvel Mayhem” and I truly can’t wait to see if Polaris gets to have a part in this event. Would love to see a father and daughter team-up against the Eternals.
Marvel Strike Force has a costume update with Lorna’s last outfit.
Despite being a unique look, I’d rather they kept her last comic book look. Nevertheless, I’m so excited to get to own this new look.
X-Men #11 (2022) Cover by Pepe Larraz O.M.G.
Polaris, Jean, Rogue and X-23 make their way to Gameworld to bring it down once and for all. But before they do so, Polaris gets to shop, lol.
This is the moment we waited for. The moment where everyone get a nice moment to shine. Polaris was the biggest draw for me and her entrance was absolute perfection!
I literally love this scene above. They are some of the world's most glamorous women. Specifically Polaris, who looked glamorous in her formal light green gown.
X-Men Unlimited Infinity comic #35 (2022)
Polaris appears in another infinity comic as well as her X-Team. Maggott is the center of the story. So glad to know Polaris was here.
X-Men ’92: House of XCII #2 (2022)
THE '90s ARE BACK... AGAIN! And her amazing BIG CURLY HAIR. Polaris made a cameo with her ‘90s X-Factor team. It was a pure delight to see The Animated Series meets ’90s X-Men comics under the lens of Jonathan Hickman’s brave new direction.
Marvel Heroclix: Marvel Hellfire Gala Premium Collection by WizKids
WizKids revealed Marvel Heroclix Polaris figure with brand-new sculpts for the Gala. A new premium figure set, for release in November 2022. Not a fan of those sandals but happy Marvel included her.
A new game dedicated to the Marvel universe was announced back in May 19 2022 and wins best mobile game of the year at the Game Awards.
Marvel Snap. Yes, Polaris’s name is on the right side. There are a few cards of Polaris in this game. Many fans love playing with Polaris. She's already on youtube.
I love one of her Snap Cards, which I’m going to post here. I'm amazed at how well the cards look and feel.
Polaris is available in pool three and has an effect that can be very annoying for the opponent. Moving your opponent’s low-cost cards to the location Polaris is in is the perfect way to use Warrior Falls to strip your opponent of value. In addition to being able to ruin great strategies by destroying cards like Sunspot. I was happy to see Polaris included in that game announcement!
X-Men #12 (2022) by Pepe Larraz
Polaris looks MARVELOUS! They all do! This cover is everything. Sadly, this is the last adventure with this lineup of X-Men as it comes to an end with this issue.
At least we can enjoy some great action sequences and some cool character moments like this panel here. Lorna gets a nice hero moment as she end the threat on Gameworld. What a GORGEOUS panel!!
Things are getting a lot more interesting for Polaris and I look forward to seeing what comes next. Her character development continues to be great and the team dynamic is compelling. This has been a great lineup and it’s bittersweet to say goodbye. Looks like Polaris can go anywhere now that her time on X-Men is over and she’s “going with the flow”. That’s not to say that Lorna will never come back. For my complete review you can visit here.
X-Men #12 (2022) Variant Cover by Russell Dauterman
I am cheerful for not only getting an incredible team finale but also a beautiful variant cover. Polaris looks so gorgeous and fabulous!
X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 (2022)
Polaris's new Gala outfit reveal by the incredible talent of Russell Dauterman is absolutely stunning!! This Hellfire gala outfit is a huge improvement. It was nice to see the “sisters” together throughout this event. How I’d have like to see her new Gala outfit as her regular X-costume.
Here’s the full Polaris design for this year’s Hellfire Gala by Russell Dauterman
OMG. I love this design! The neck piece as her original headpiece is a great acknowledgment. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! I also love the way the magnetic powers are used. The metallic accessories are amazing. She looks absolutely STUNNING!!! Thanks for the beautiful share, Russell. I am in love with this outfit. I really love how her power gets incorporated into the design! Bravo!
X-Men: Hellfire Gala Variant by Arthur Adams
Magnificent cover and such a throwback!
A.X.E. - Judgment Day #1 (2022)
In case if you’re doubting, yes, that’s Lorna Dane. And I know what you’re thinking. “That’s not Lorna. Those are all humans.” OOOKAAAYYY. Than why all those humans look normal except the green hair girl? Who do any of you know who dresses this sophisticated and refined? What do you see when you see this panel? A coincidence? Most likely not. Given that she was absent during the Judgement Day event, Valerio Schiti seems to be throwing hints as to why Lorna was absent throughout this event. You’re not gonna tell me the artist doesn’t know who Polaris is? But really... looking at this panel I see Polaris with her green hair, glasses, classy clothes, shopping while taking a break from the X-team. She has been pictured shopping quite a bit.
Fan art by Luis Flores
He has some nice style and Polaris looks beautiful!
X-Men Legends #1 (2022)
Polaris made a cameo. This issue is supposed to be taking place in the 1970s era (when Marvel stopped creating new X-Men stories). Polaris surprisingly made a comeback in Captain America Vol 1 #173-175 (1974) before X-Men was relaunched on 1975. However, her real first comeback was back in 1972 in The Incredible Hulk #150. How delightful to see Polaris wearing a costume (or outfit) which has never been discovered except for one panel.
X-Men '92 House of XCII #4 (2022)
This '90s-tastic take on the X-Men's Krakoan Era where the HoX PoX era and X-Men ‘92 (TAS) have practically mirrored each other. The Gala is one of the best events in the modern X-Men stories. Yeah the Gala outfits aren’t the level of the Hickman era, but Espin still has Polaris looking good :)
The nice part of this book is that we get a page set up like a tabloid with Polaris on the front cover.
Nice to see Marvel promoting her in every way :)
Knights of X #5 (2022)
Welcome to the final installment of the Knights of X where the dragons, magic, and mutants all existed in one place. I also appreciate that Tini Howard included Polaris to help in the big fight. All the mutants show up in force and they take down all of Merlin’s forces and we have a little bit of everybody here. Lorna and Jean are right up there.
After the battle all of the loose ends are tied up and the X-Men are finally relaxing. Polaris is enjoying her coffee.
X-Men by Gerry Duggan TPB Vol 02 (2022)
Collects X-Men #7-12 (2021-2022). Again, a beautiful book with an incredible art team uplifts some average mutant adventures. Now you can read the story (in one book) about the X-women heading out for the hottest action in the galaxy: Gameworld! There was a great amount of Polaris in this. That makes me happy. It’s definitely worth your time, money and attention. Glad Marvel picks this cover.
X-Men '92 House of XCII (2022) #5
The epic journey through the modern era to the 92 era reaches its epic conclusion! There’s a fantastic splash with Nimrod versus the X-Men where Polaris is wearing her 90s X-Factor uniform. I’m just happy to say that even if she appears as a cameo she at least made it til the finale of this chapter.
Fan art by Raijin Art
She looks amazingly beautiful!
X-Men Legends #2 (2022)
Impressively, this story runs in a series tying into a Captain America plot from the 1970s. We discovered that Mesmero has actually been holographically displaying the seven mutants (when in reality they were still in the energy wheel) and use them to take out Wolverine and Jack of Diamonds. I must say Polaris looks beautiful :)
X-Men #15 Unknown Comics Miguel Mercado Exclusive Variant Edition (2022)
Despite Lorna not being in this series since she departed from the X-team after a year, Marvel would be delighted to keeps promoting Polaris at all costs. After issue #12, Marvel went along giving the first team a cover of their own. Polaris, Jean, Rogue, Cyclops and X-23 were the only ones to get a cover by Miguel Mercado. Polaris looks GORGEOUS!!!
Inktober (2022) There have been so many inktober entries of Polaris this year. So I’m only going to post a few.
Inktober by Marshall Hinson
Gorgeous. Just. Gorgeous.
Inktober by Robert Atkins
O.M.G.
Inktober by Kyler Clodfelter
A badass Polaris, whew. Like I said, there are many more. Too many to post. So happy to see a lot of fans/artists drawing Polaris.
Bishop: War College #1 (2023) Hidden Gem Variant by Stroman and Portaci
Marvel is already promoting Polaris (and not Havok) for the upcoming year. The current year hasn’t left yet and there’s already a variant cover with Polaris (front & center) and her 90s X-Factor’s team. There is not enough information about this story or if Polaris will ever participate. Hopefully we get to know more next year.
Sound of Light: A Marvel: School of X Novel (2022) by Amanda Bridgema
With Dazzler working for S.H.I.E.L.D. she finds she needs the help of an extraordinary team of mutants including Polaris, Emma Frost, Sage and Rachel Grey to stop the Mutant Growth Hormone that lead the disappearance of Magneto and Cyclops! I love that they’re especially highlighting female heroes... letting some of my favorite characters shine in their own prose novels. I really enjoyed the characterizations and relationships between the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between our leading ladies. Thank you Amanda Bridgeman for including Polaris in this gift of a book! If you are a fan of the X Men universe... whether your introduction was movie, cartoon or comic... you absolutely do not want to miss this stand out!
Captain Marvel #43 (2022) Revenge of The Brood Part 1
YES! Back to space! The beginning of a new arc for Carol/Lorna interaction. Polaris appearing in Captain Marvel arc was a pretty pleasant surprise. This story takes place after X-Men #12 and the second Hellfire Gala.
What a badass is Lorna. And for your information this is not a cameo but more substantial. I couldn't be more excited to see where this goes, and it's a perfect time for a Captain Marvel and X-Men adventure. The involvement of Polaris has me heavily intrigued. I will put my review of this arc on another separate page so I won’t put too much here. This is written by the amazing (@1979semifinalist) Kelly Thompson so Polaris is safe.
Art by Gustavo Izumi
What a beautiful piece! I love it!
Marvel crisis protocol Polaris presupported included (2022)
Amazing! Marvel: Crisis Protocol, a tabletop hobby miniatures game of climactic combat! Assemble your team with Polaris against your friends in battles of cataclysmic proportions. Two months ago this beautiful creation came to light. Miniatures are supplied unpainted. Preparation and assembly are required. Nevertheless, you can now add Polaris to your wargames.
Polaris X-Men (Marvel Legends) Custom Action Figure (2022)
Face is the creator of this wonderful figure. You can visit Figurereal.com for more pictures.
Venom #13 (2022) Variant Cover by Tony Daniel
Days of Future Past Homage Variant. The fact that Marvel added Polaris to another variant cover is awesome!
Captain Marvel #44 (2022) Revenge of The Brood Part 2 cover by Juan Frigeri
This cover is GORGEOUS and Polaris on the Cover of Captain Marvel is a big deal! The fact that we get another kickass female heroines lead team is more than amazing.
Finally we're getting some action and adventure in deep space. Nice to see Polaris return to space trying to save Rogue and Binary. Lorna using her ability outer space is brilliant. Her abilities extend beyond simple magnetism manipulation so she can do a lot more while in space. I believe we're in for a fun ride.
Captain Marvel #44 (2022) Variant by Stephen Segovia
Marvel also provided another amazing variant cover with the girls (and Gambit) at a party. Nope. This is not the Gala, lol. I am pleased to see Marvel promoting Lorna in every way.
X-Men #19 (2023) Lord of The Brood, Part 1
Did some of you think Polaris would never return to Duggan X title? Ha! Well Marvel announced a Captain Marvel and the X-Men crossover (for Revenge of the Brood and Lord of the Brood) coming in 2023. I was delighted to receive another X-Men cover with Polaris in it.
Cosplayers having a Thanksgiving dinner 2022 by Graciecosplay
They definitely did a great job with their outfits but props to Polaris!
Scarlet Witch #3 (2023) cover by Russel Dauterman
Just when you thought Polaris wasn’t going to be anywhere after X-Men #12. HA! Marvel gave yet another announcement of a brand-new ongoing SCARLET WITCH solo series. So be ready for this January because we will see the “sisters” finally working together. I am so hyped for this.
Marvel: Future Fight (2022)
O.M.G. Finally, the new character joining Marvel Future Fight is Polaris. With tier-three advancement and the ability to absorb energy, Polaris can play as both a leader and a supporter. Knowing Lorna has finally been added to another game is one of the most amazing news we got this year. Not only is she a supporter player but also a leadership for all mutant characters. Polaris is ABL meta. Polaris is coming to the game immediately as a tier 3 which is exactly what we wanted to see.
“This storied mutant is ready to dominate her opponents in battle with her eminence magnetic skills.” WOW!!! Definitely a good time to be a Polaris fan.
Art by Effix
Absolutely gorgeous!
X-Men #19 and Captain Marvel #46 (2023) connecting covers by Juan Frigeri
Marvel announced both series will have one giant connecting cover by Juan Frigeri. The covers for X-Men 19-21 and Captain Marvel 46-48 will connect for a brand-new Brood Saga! It’s nice to have once again a connecting cover with Lorna in it. This is HUGE. We’re about to get a reunion with The X-Men and Captain Marvel as they take on the Brood once more time! Captain Marvel and the X-Men team-up in epic new event to fight the Brood starting February 2023. But that’s not all........
Marvel Graphic Comic Box Captain Marvel/X-Men will be on sale Feb 1 2023. LOOK. AT. THIS. 2023 is already looking better and I’m preparing myself for another good page.
Marvel Future Fight is looking so good for Polaris. I need to post this.
She looks fantastic and the abilities she's displaying look gorgeous. Now I can’t wait to start acquiring costumes/skins for Polaris. Oh, and speaking of costumes....
We get to see another Marvel Super War costume update for Polaris coming out on Dec 29. So excited to know about this. Players will usually pay real money for skins, and the rarer the skin the more it's worth. Sadly, this game is not a global release yet. I’ve been dying to play this game so bad. But glad to know Lorna gets another amazing skin.
Wanda and Lorna in Scarlet Witch #3 (2023) variant cover by Nabetse Zitro
Apparently, Marvel has been actively encouraging artists to promote Polaris. What a beautiful cover and can’t wait to own it. I know something awesome is coming for them two.
Fan art by Sergei Titov
Imagine Lorna running this team? That would be awesome!
Marvel Collect! by Topps
As we all know this is a digital collectible card game. I can honestly say is pretty cool to be able to collect all these different types of cards. This app used to be great. Now it is more of a hassle and annoyance. Anyways, Marvel has plenty digital cards of Polaris.
Topps Marvel Collect Polaris Vintage X-Men EPIC! This is a rare one. It became vintage and EPIC for a reason. Unfortunately, this card has been sold out.
Polaris - 2022 X-Collection 2022 Vintage X-Men Magenta Epic card No. 23523 (sold out - card limited to only 264 copies). Jim Lee is a well known famous artist and I love how he draws Polaris.
Remember the cancellation of ‘Dark Marvel’ variant cover originally stated for X-Factor #2 (2020)? Well, great news...IT'S BACK and it will be available as X-Treme X-Men #2 (2022) in December 28th. Variant by David Nakayama
MARVEL DEMONIZED VARIANT BUNDLE (16 BOOKS) and Nakayama’s variant was one of them. So glad to know Marvel brought back this cover as a promotion for Lorna. That was one of the foremost art/variant collectables I was looking forward to and finally we're getting it! Polaris and Prestige look gorgeous, especially Polaris. I mean LOOK. AT. HER. Gothic, this is the name of this style, is both gloomy and fascinating. This promotion is well deserved and reflects her relentless commitment to the Marvel Industry.
Remember when I mentioned last year about Marvel United: X-Men, a kickstarter tabletop card game?
She’s in the Marvel United: X-Men/Mutant Promo box. You can get it on Ebay or Amazon.
CMON has announced their next Kickstarter campaign will be Marvel United Multiverse. Get the X-Men base game, they improved some stuff (Mostly just that you get a card that's always in your opening hand which helps characters feel more unique).
Preview of Captain Marvel #45 (2023) Revenge of the Brood Part 3
So the story continues with them being in the illusion. Lorna seems to enjoy herself at everything she does despite being a thing that is likely to be wrongly perceived. But I do like seeing Polaris having fun and meeting new people. We still don’t know if this was before or after being captured as we can perceive this differently. I can’t wait for this issue to come out.
Polaris interacting more with the Marvel Universe is really great to see! Lorna winning the X vote really has been great for her! Marvel seems to want to make a bigger impact in promoting Lorna. Giving her variant covers or putting her on the cover of books that she’s not even included in the issue and/or story. Adding her to few more games was fantastic. What a great year and you don’t get to say this every year but damn she has been promoted heavily for the past few years.
2022 came to an end so let’s celebrate and appreciate the past, present and what lies ahead in the coming year. 2023 will be a great year for Polaris and her fans. I have no doubt about it. Do you think we are heading in a better or worse direction for (Polaris) 2023? Getting ready for the future: what lies ahead of us is more important than anything behind us. Polaris aka Lorna Dane
X-men #1 (2021)
Polaris By Aman Chaudhary
She looks GORGEOUS!!!
X-Men: The Trial of Magneto (2021)
Trial of Magneto #1
Coming out of the Hellfire Gala, X-Men, X-Factor and X-Force are doing the investigation of the death of Scarlet Witch. An investigation into exactly what happened. How was Wanda killed? Who murdered her, and why? Rachael is trying to reconstruct an event that occurred during Gala, she’s trying to get a complete understanding of it by assembling all the pieces together.
We see everyone getting involved trying to combine a lot of details and trying to get a clear idea of what happened to Wanda. They are trying to complete one of the strangest unsolved mystery cases: the unexplained death of Scarlet Witch.
They transfer Wanda to the Healing Garden (or laboratory) to do more careful study. They’re doing a careful analysis of the problem in order to discover more about it. Wanda’s case ended up being very perplexing.
When they try to reconstruct what happened substantively, the only account that matters is WHY, WHO and HOW. The circumstances of her death are thrown into a lot of questions. Who wanted her dead? Why would they want her dead? How can someone possibly kill one of the most powerful witches?
As we see all of the mutants really start to piece this evidence together moving right, through fear, and into learning to find out who did it, Polaris was shocked at the state of the evidence.
No matter which way they go about it, all the evidence is pointing towards Magneto. Polaris couldn’t believe her eyes but asked her team to give her a head start, which I believe a head start is a preferred position or an advantage, sometimes obtained by starting to do something before anyone else does, right?
Well, guess what. Polaris didn’t get that much of a head start. Instead we see Northstar demanding that Magneto will have to accompany them, which I thought was funny, knowing Magneto isn't easily persuaded to follow the rules. I have to say seeing Northstar taking up EVERY STEP OF THE WAY throughout the entire book infuriated me. I’m talking about to the point that I almost stopped reading. To the best of my knowledge, the book looks to be about a "family feud” but instead Northstar is above everyone... as if he IS the law and order of Krakoa blahblahblah. This should have given the opportunity for a father-daughter conversation before any physical force took place. How I would’ve liked to see Polaris taking the head start she wanted to confront her father, who she knows better than anyone else. Lorna was the one who should’ve squared up to her father and not Northstar. It really bugged me but luckily I kept reading because then this happened...
During the battle, Magneto finds someone trying to use his own powers against him thinking that it was Synch and demands the mutant to show himself. As I stated in my preview X-Men page, Synch is a character very similar to Rogue. He copies other mutants ability while being close to them without having to touch them.
While Magneto continued attacking the X-Men, X-Factor and X-Force, having the upper hand against three different teams, Magneto was physically restrained to such an extent that I can’t think how someone could possibly be able to do this to an Omega-Level mutant since at that point, no one was able to withstand the Master of Magnetism.
Magneto’s powers have been infiltrated by someone who terminated his attack. He was furious at this attempt at manipulating and controlling (him) his powers. He immediately informed the mutant to come out and face him like a man. Well, it turned out that this “man”, who held him back the whole time so that he won’t hurt the X-Men was in fact..............
...POLARIS. Here is where Lorna makes the most amazing entrance. She is known for making her grand entrance and filling us with delight and wonder. Soon he finds it’s not Synch at all. It was his daughter, Lorna Dane, the whole time. Polaris being the only individual to break his stride was amazing and unexpected. Because you see... Magneto is Omega-Level mutant (right?) and to see an “Alpha-Level” obstruct someone like Magneto from utilizing his power... an extremely difficult thing to do to an Omega who just beat 3 teams combined was more than astounding. Polaris was bold enough to shut down her father.
The fight, however, rapidly increases with Polaris and Magneto, sadly becoming exceedingly costly for the Magnet Family. Here is where Leah made her bad decision to annoy Lorna’s fans.
See this panel above? Yup, that’s exactly what I mean. Oh my God the cringe, that’s terrible dialogue. Let’s be honest for a second. This just sounds preposterously stupid. Magneto himself is a verbose character but even this sounds stupid by Magneto’s standards. What he (Leah) told to his daughter...jeez what a dis. This is just bad dialogue even for a character like Magneto and Polaris both which have their own cadence and their own voice. It reads terribly. And the idea that he went straight forward on killing the one thing he had on his side was just........................................................
And those of you saying Magneto had the upper hand while fighting Polaris let me explain one thing. Emotions were involved in this situation. As we can see during their battle, Magneto (with his terrible dialogue) was verbally abusing his daughter, trying to take advantage of her emotions. He was trying to avoid a clash with Polaris and end the fight before it really began. She was just floating, looking at him in disbelief. After everything she has done for him? She supported him? She fought for him? She stood beside him through thick and thin? She was not attempting to control her emotions and lost concentration. Magneto just saw the need to verbally abuse his daughter to create a diversion. She could have created a solid forcefield to protect herself. She could have avoided the cut. She could have restrained him throughout the fight like she did in the first place. A conflict that could have had an immense impact in history. What a waste of an opportunity. Polaris is one of those heroes that you can NOT underestimate.
Once Polaris got cut, the X-Men immediately assembled around her. You can tell they’re angry for what he did to her.
Magneto did nothing but piss off his daughter. Polaris then leads the X-Men in overwhelming Magneto with various attacks. Polaris says all of Magneto’s efforts to break her failed and only made her stronger.
Polaris holds nothing back when confronting Magneto about his possible role in Wanda’s death. Magneto then suddenly disappears.
Quicksilver finally entered the scene but for what? To see Northstar taking Polaris’ place again? Besides, where were he the whole time during the battle? He vanished into thin air and out of nowhere he’s hugging Quicksilver? We see two strangers who don’t know each other acting like brothers. Polaris should be the one in this scene with Quicksilver. This was also a waste an opportunity.
There are some emotional moments that failed to land because of how quickly this book transitions from scene to scene. Out of everyone, even more so than Polaris, Pietro Maximoff was the one we needed to see confront Magneto over Wanda’s death. I was hoping to see this interaction throughout the book but.... let’s continue, shall we?
Trial of Magneto #2
It was confirmed that during the Hellfire Gala event, Magneto was the last person to be with her, which made him the number one suspect in Scarlet Witch’s death. Magneto was extremely upset of being accused and he’s very unhappy about this situation.
Cyclops, Jean and Wolverine went to greet the arrival. The Avengers has just arrived at Krakoa for the very first time to collect Wanda’s body. They’ve come in peace. Jean hugging Vision and Wasp was nice to see.
Cyclops wanted to give the Avengers a tour of the island before taking Wanda’s body and show them everything that Krakoa is. Captain agrees to take a look at the island.
And so the tour begins. They started showing them all around Krakoa. They see how everything is blooming and how amazing it has become. Everything seems to be going fine except when they accidentally go through a gate.
Polaris gets a little worried about the Avengers coming upon the resurrection room. No one is protecting the secret mutant resurrection and so Polaris psychically speaks to Jean about possibly erasing the Avengers mind so they don’t find out about Krakoa’s resurrection protocols. Polaris is playing smart but the rest? Cyclops and Jean more than anyone (beside Polaris) know the resurrection was meant to be kept secret.
Jean don’t feel comfortable carrying out such a massive breach of diplomacy. Polaris insisted for the state of Krakoa it must be protected. They are deliberately trying not to reveal the resurrection because that is a secret from the world but lucky for them, Emma and the Cuckoos are already ahead of the game. In order to get out of this one for the Avengers, Emma created a telepathic screen as a distraction. The Avengers see Emma and the Cuckoos are just bathing on the beach.
Emma tells Polaris not to worry; that she has everything under control. Everything the Avengers are seeing is nothing but them enjoying the sun.
Once again Northstar is taking Polaris’ place. Everything is so out of character. I would have assumed Polaris and Quicksilver would have at least 2 whole panels for themselves. You telling me they ignored each other the whole time they were there? 2 Actual X-Factor? Bro and sis? I mean who would have known Quicksilver better than Polaris? Definitely not Northstar. Nevertheless, Polaris is right there looking at Quicksilver *facepalm*
They don’t even know each other (except that both are speedsters) to make it even more awkward, weird, and strange than it already is. And no, Northstar is not faster than Quicksilver. Just saying.
Northstar once again vanished during the second battle with Magneto. All he did was fly around. But as soon as Erik captured his boyfriend he was instantly there. Anyways, Magneto shows up in his classic costume to attack the X-Men and Avengers. Only this time he wanted the Avengers out so they won’t take Wanda’s body.
The Avengers gave the X-Men enough time to handle this situation on their own but Cyclops only needs 5 mins. So Polaris is the first to intervene... stand toe to toe with her father once again. Magneto gets pissed off seeing his daughter against him. But he was also impressed to see Polaris’ creation. She created Boneyard with entirely magnetized structure. Lorna created one of the most impressive works of art. She told Magneto she designed it for her doctoral thesis and it was consistently well done. The fact that Polaris graduated with a PhD (Doctorate of Philosophy) was finally confirmed. They did not fight. This was all a distraction. This gives Cyclops the opening to hit Magneto with an optic blast from behind.
Getting to know Polaris has her PhD was fantastic and a tremendous character development. Polaris must’ve passed her PhD with a B+ if we allow to guess. But definitely you have to be of above-average intelligence to have a good shot at completing your PhD. It’s important to be able to write and present well, no matter what your field. And without getting your diploma, associate, bachelor, master you won’t be able to jump in for a PhD. She completed her education while being on and off from X-Men and X-Factor’s team (and other affiliation). Now we see why she wanted to live a normal life. She just wanted to complete her education and leave all this behind. Now that she is done with her education she is a full time X-Man :)
However, to put a stop to this the Avengers decided to intervene to stop Magneto by any means.
When everybody went after Magneto and in a fit of rage he snaps and tries to take everybody down and when things were just about to go sideways, we see from the sky The Scarlet Witch. The finale ends surprisingly!
Perhaps “surprisingly”, she's alive!
Trial of Magneto #3
Once Wanda makes her return, everyone wants to know what the heck is going on (including us readers). So then Jean and Rachel started doing a little bit of digging into her mind and see nothing but a void. They decided to update Wanda’s mind, giving her memories back; at least her greatest hits up until that point as the island begins to rumble and suddenly giant Kaiju appear all over the island.
While Wanda regained her memories, somehow it opened up some kind of portal and let 3 creatures out.
Meanwhile one of the Kaijus was aiming towards the Boneyard. Polaris starts giving orders and tells Sunfire and Ironman to drive one of them away from the headquarters she created. If I’m not mistaken, she also moved it out of the way of the Kaiju. Very impressive to see her shifting a giant structure effectively.
The heroes starts to work blasting the monster as Polaris and Magneto use their abilities to hold and trap the Kaiju down using metal chains. Impeding the kaiju from destroying Lorna’s creation. I ask why is Polaris wearing her old costume from X-Factor? Seems like Leah told the artist to do so since this was gonna be one panel with Lorna in it. Magneto also went from White, black red costumes as well.
Trial of Magneto #4
Soon they learned the Kaiju won’t die. Sunfire ask how many times they have to put this thing down and Lorna tells him “until they learn to stay down.”
Yup... the Queen had spoken. Lorna was prepared to fight for as long as they can, possibly to the death. Scarlet Witch finally got her shit together (excuse my language) and came to the rescue. Taking down the kaiju one by one after learning she accidentally brought those dangerous creatures. As to my understanding, Wanda needed to reconcile her past, present and future in order for the creatures to become easier to quell.
Once the first Kaiju went down, Polaris immediately appears in another location fighting another creature. So nice to see Vulcan behinds her. I would have loved to see them sharing a few words about when they were in space. Specifically about when Polaris hurts him so badly that it left him screaming that was heard throughout the galaxy, lol.
After Scarlet Witch destroyed the 3 Kaijus, mutants wanted to possibly (kill) hurt her? They knew she was responsible for getting the creatures to the island. Though she didn’t do this intentionally. I was under the impression that it was Jean and Rachel who might have opened up something from Wanda’s subconscious. Polaris, Magneto and the rest surrounded Wanda... protecting her from the crowd. Finally Wanda knows who “attacked” her.
Finally we are going to reveal who killed Scarlet Witch.
Trial of Magneto #5
And the culprit is Toad, apparently. We are having another trial only this time The Trial of Toad, lol. Yup! Toad was the one who “murdered” Wanda (but I’m sure there is more to this story). I’ll tell you why it’s a bit bizarre in fact we’ll find out later in the issue.
Toad even admits his guilt and knows he will be exiled. Wanda is the first one to voice any kind of opposition to this judgement. Stating she forgives him given that she’s alive and there is no need for the punishment (after all he didn’t murder anyone so he didn’t technically break Krakoa’s law) but Magneto insisted that by the law of Krakoa, he must face the consequences. Polaris sat by her, rubbing her back, comforting her. I don’t understand why Quicksilver vanished as soon as Wanda returned.
Evidently he killed her using this magical contraption which has his fingerprints all over it.
Toad claimed he did this on the name of Magneto and the brotherhood. For his crimes, Toad is punished with exile. And with that, we see Krakoa grab hold of him and bring him down into his sentencing. Screaming at the top of his lungs that he killed Wanda for breaking apart the Brotherhood. That he did it for Magneto, whom she had abandoned. Now Toad will be accompanied by Sabretooth.
Do I think he did this for Magneto? Sure he did, since Magneto needed someone to cover their asses. Wanda created her own death because the only way she can understand resurrection is by killing herself in order to gain access. She was able to fake a crime scene and created a piece of mystic metal that she used to kill herself with. Anyways, Wanda decided to stay behind because she has some unfinished business.
Meanwhile, Scarlet Witch needs to do something but she needs Lorna’s help. Magneto walked away, avoiding talking about going to his place. Polaris wondered where he was going. Apparently he went to hide his weaknesses and cry out loud. Perhaps because he’s part of this mess? Perhaps because of Toad? Perhaps because he intentionally hurt his daughter, Polaris? Those are some things that I can think of. Perhaps we may never know exactly why. But one thing for sure Magneto let Wanda in on the big secret and he might have regretted deeply revealing to Wanda the resurrection protocol for the reason that this was supposed to be classified.
Scarlet Witch is about to perform some kind of seance? She continues to draw these symbols on the ground. Wanda tells Lorna to bring Legion and Proteus with her. She tells them they are the prodigal three.
For Scarlet Witch, 3 became a mystically important number. What their parents represent to Krakoa makes the 3 of them the most important figures. There must be a reason why she picks the children of Krakoa’s founders. They are needed to complete whatever she is about to do.
Polaris tells Scarlet Witch that her being there does not work at all. Wanda seems confused, thinking why it isn’t working. Apparently they can’t see the Eldritch Orchard but they can all feel it except for Polaris.
Suddenly Lorna lets Wanda knows that it’s not her who should be standing on one of those circles. Even though Wanda is not a mutant she is the one to complete this circuit. The one to bring this resurrection about. I guess she didn’t need 3 mutants to complete the project after all.
Scarlet Witch steps in the circle and all begins to activate. Now she can take the past, present and future simultaneously with her ability and create a pocket dimension one that will hold all of mutant kind. With all of her power she created Heaven, a portal way to the elysian fields of Krakoa. She created a brand new arcane circuit. There have been reports that 20 million mutants were added to the resurrection queue overnight. One of them was John Proudstar, who died in a plane crash on his second mission in 1975. Finally the Scarlet Witch was able to bring him back.
Forgive yourself. Let it go. Forget about it. Move on. It's easy to say, but so much harder to actually do. But after such a long time, she was able to come clean and let her guilt go away. She was finally able to redeem herself. She is no longer the pretender but the redeemer.
As I stated previously, Magneto might be feeling terrible for the fact that he hurt his daughter, Polaris. Apparently Magneto was not 100% on board for this plan knowing what he was gonna be up against. Despite the fact that he harmed his daughter... Polaris doesn’t seem to hold anything against him because she thinks he has nothing to do with Scarlet Witch’s death. Little did she know Magneto and Scarlet Witch both are lying about her death. I guess this will be in another useless story. I admit, this last panel here was beautiful.
Review:
If the purpose of this mini series was to craft a good mystery, it failed miserably. If it was about Wanda in her journey and fixing the mistakes then kudos! It succeeded...but barely, and wasted so much time. Also, I have to ask, is Marvel ignoring its retcon of Wanda and Pietro's connection to Magneto? We've been waiting for this and this doesn't deliver on what I wanted. It didn’t retcon Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver into being mutants or Magneto’s real children again, which is a damn shame. So, what was the point of this story? Unfortunately, what we ended up getting should have been called the “Trial of Scarlet Witch”. Most of us really believing that this was going to focus around Magneto but it has heavily been focusing all around Wanda.
So, the Quiet Council judges Toad, who admits to everything but... did anyone at the Council truly believe that someone as weak as Toad could ever kill Wanda for retribution? How did anyone buy this? It seems that Toad took the fall for Wanda and let himself be framed for her murder, offering Magneto complete loyalty. His loyalty to Magneto was never in question.
Then we have the father vs daughter intense conflict; what could have been the death of Polaris. Try to see this from my perspective. The bond between a father and his daughter is forever sacred. From the moment she was born, she was destined to be daddy's little girl. The father-daughter relationship is powerful and deserves to be nurtured and respected. The damage inflicted on her as a result of her father's verbal abuses destroyed what Cullen created. This is why I love what Cullen Bunn did with Polaris and Magneto’s relationship. From Magneto’s solo book to X-Men Blue (also Deadpool and HoM), Bunn did many good things for their relationship. Say what ever you want but he IS the best when it comes to Magneto and Polaris as Father and daughter.
And last, but most importantly, make sure all this conflict affects the protagonist's journey. My major concern is that the prominent characters weren’t interacting as they should have. Leah once again had the opportunity to reunite the “Magnus family” but failed to do so. There were no interactions between Lorna and Piertro. No interactions between Wanda and Pietro. No interactions between Magneto and Pietro. Apparently Quicksilver was completely rejected from the "Magnus family.” The characterization of all of the dialogue is just so bad it’s hard to take those characters seriously. Everything was so out of character. I don't hate the book, but it's a very poor comic book.
On a positive note, I like the idea that Polaris confirmed her graduation and earned her Doctorate. I like the fact that Polaris was the one to first react and show concern about the Avengers coming upon the resurrection room. I also love the fact that she was able to withstand her father during their battle. And at last, the interaction between Lorna and Wanda was nice to see. Other than that, nothing else mattered since this book felt so rushed for the most part.
Lastly, under the pen of Duggan, we are receiving a very powerful and interesting Polaris. Though my review for his book is still on hold as we have not gotten to the end of the year. This is not to say Polaris will be gone once a new character will join the squad. Those are only speculation because the X-Men will continue with Polaris :)

New X-Men: Champions of Krakoa
Marvel Comics is proud to unveil the new team of X-Men! Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Polaris, Rogue, Wolverine, Sunfire and Synch are the chosen champions of mutantkind and will be the lineup in X-Men (2021-2022), the new ongoing X-series will be introduced as mutants first heroes of Krakoa.
X-Men are finally back, and Marvel's first heroes are as excited as fans. It's been a while since an official team of X-Men has been active due to mutants having created their own mutant nation on the island of Krakoa. These are the first heroes... they are now a team of mutants, they are resolved to protect not only Krakoa but the world.
As we all know Marvel readers choose Polaris to join the new X-Men team in a mega-popular fan election. I think it’s clear that the fan’s choice of Polaris really did shape the direction of the book. So glad to know Polaris gets to be the first mutant to participate in a hero X-team. She has great powers and is extremely entertaining. She deserves to be in an A-list book, using her powers to be the big hero she believes herself to be. She's such a star and needs to be portrayed as such. With that being said let’s dive into this breakdown.
It’s all began here... the Treehouse. The X-Men's new headquarters was planted within the heart of New York City.
We get a fantastic tour scene (in a splash page) with Lorna arriving and Cyclops giving her the tour to their new headquarters and showing all the little things to Polaris everywhere. I just loved it.
So Marvel uses Polaris and Cyclops to introduced us their new headquarters. The Treehouse is undeniably the coolest base superheroes have ever established in New York or perhaps in MU.
The part where Polaris needed to confess to Cyclops and that she almost Shifted the Earth magnetic poles is called........character development :)
Among the four rocky planets in our solar system, you could say that Earth’s “magnetic” personality is the envy of her interplanetary neighbors. Earth is surrounded by an immense magnetic field called the magnetosphere. Generated by powerful, dynamic forces at the center of our world and that’s exactly what Polaris can shift and control. More about this coming soon.
A fireball was coming down from the sky making its way towards the city. Rogue tried to push this thing away from any people and they crash landed right on the coastline. Once the smoke clears from the fireball’s impact, we see what appears to be a giant Kaiju. Rogue tells the rest of the X-Men that a giant creature has emerged. When the monster attacks the city, the newly reformed team of mutants are first on the scene to respond to the situation. This is where the fun begins. Where the behemoth attacks Manhattan.
The alien creature spots Rogue and it doesn’t take any time for it to take one of it giant tentacle-like things and smack the crap out of Rogue sending her flying across the city all the way to the Treehouse. That’s when the amazing heroes of Krakoa entered the scene. The mutants assemble with Polaris leading the charge, actually. She’s the first one up to battle... the first one to try to test this thing and see what she can do because they don’t really have a plan or what they gonna do. This is their first mission (if you will) and the new team of X-Men assembles to stop it. So hyped for Lorna being a full time X-man :)
Love to see Lorna front and center. Polaris attempts to use her powers on the creature but unfortunately it turns out to be completely organic. Luckily Rogue saves Polaris at the last second just before the creature crushes her. The X-Men regroup with Cyclops telling the team that they need to focus on containing the creature.
The creature unleashes a massive burst of energy through the city overwhelming people's minds and causing them pounding migraines that can cause severe throbbing pain with extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Polaris reacted quickly and wraps the team in a metal cocoon and saves her team from getting the psychic attack. Giving them the opportunity to think and figure it out what to do next.
Protected inside the structure Polaris created, Marvel Girl uses her powers to shield as many minds as she can to protect the people in the area not fall prey to the alien’s mind control but it’s becoming too much for her, which gives Synch an idea since he was still currently synced up with Forge’s abilities.
Jean tapped into Synch’s mind and shared his thoughts with everybody giving everybody the idea that he has. With this connection they all can work together faster.
Polaris already has her hand on... asking what else he needs. She was more than ready to do her thing. She was ready to bring all the high quality steel to build... something. While Synch tells Lorna what they need, she’s using her ability to summon masses of steel.
Polaris is one of the most powerful current members of the X-Men (which is saying something) considering she can control one of the fundamental forces, making her a remarkably powerful figure in her own right. After all she is the offspring of an Omega level mutant.
Jean tells Synch to stay put and think everything he needs and everybody will hear those thoughts and act simultaneously. We see the X-Men forging together a giant weapon that they’re gonna be able to fight the giant alien. But what exactly are they building?
Polaris quickly assembled herself a giant robot right in the middle of New York and that was so damn awesome!! I mean how glorious is that? The new X-Men quickly respond, combining their powers to stop the massive threat. We’re seeing mutants being able to use and mix their power together and really created an amazing Mech. This hasn’t been done on a huge scale like this before. I’m incredibly impressed with their creativity, especially Polaris.
And the Kaiju battle begins
While they lose an arm from their X-Mech the X-Men get close enough for Cyclops to fire a massive blast then get even closer so that Sunfire can unleash a large fire attack. There was lots of smash and bang. Finally X-23 was able to fight her way through the creature and starts tearing it apart from inside.
And just like that.....the X-Men saved the day. The people including Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man were cheering them for saving the day. How delightful to know Lorna is a hero.
X-Men #2 is filled with awesome action and unique threats for the teams to battle. Cordyceps Jones seeming to be running this entire gambling organization on space. Cordyceps Jones is a new threat not only capable of manipulating others to do his dirty work for him, but powerful enough to overthrow otherworldly dictators. The fungal-like being wonders who’s up next to place a bet on what will happen to the Earth.
Shortly after, the alien ship crash lands in Kansas, United States, where one swig from a bottle of death is unleashing mindless horrors upon the unsuspecting locals.
Cordyceps Jones is still placing bets on who will exterminate life on Earth first, sending wave after wave after wave of threats towards Earth. Seeking who will be the first to destroy the X-Men. One high-roller sends his friend to “uncork a rare vintage” on the planet: the cosmic-level threat called the Annihilation Wave. Giving something for the X-Men to really have a challenge, and all for sport.
Sensing the sudden surge of mass death, Jean summons the rest of the team telling them it’s time to meet up and suit up to stop the Annihilation Wave before it consumes all life in its path. And just like that the entire X-Men team are ready, locked, loaded and making their way down to Kansas to fight the terrifying Wave.
Ok, I know Jean is looking at Cyclops but Sunfire? He seems to be checking on Lorna. Hmmmm :)
As they zone in at the area, they realized what they were dealing with but they did not hesitate one bit. They immediately jump into action. Little did they know that the attack was part of the game launched by the alien bookmaker Cordyceps Jones, who is taking all bets against the future of humanity. By the way, Polaris looks GORGEOUS!!
Everyone in this panel are all in action, but Lorna? I just gotta love her. And the second battle began.
Finally we get to see some nice panels with Polaris and Marvel Girl working together. This was very pleasing to see. These two X-ladies comes from way back since Silver Age and seeing them together once again it’s just breathtaking. Polaris came up with a marvelous idea and Jean kinda like that idea.
Polaris pops the chain off of these big logs off this logging truck and hovered them towards Jean. Then Jean slams it down into the bugs. My favorite combo :)
Cyclops starts shouting out his orders. Commanding Polaris to create a HUGE bubble over the town trying to protect all of the individuals. He told Jean to show Polaris how big she needs to go. Polaris soared into the air and...
...with that we see a giant shield go up. Polaris uses her powers to create a barrier that holds back the entire Wave. Big enough to stop the Annihilation Wave from consuming all life in its path. Giving them the time they need to take them out at the source. Seeing her force field hold back all those creatures was very impressive. Not to mention this was a potential world-ender, especially when you see how huge the Annihilation Wave was getting. Luckily Polaris has the powers to put all these bugs under a giant dome. I am just thrilled to have Polaris on the team.
Suddenly Jean senses something and tells everyone there is a change in plans. She captured some kind of ping from deep inside the wave. She needs to go inside and find the host in order to know where this Annihilation Wave came from, why it’s here and who did this, because by all accounts... this seems to be an intentional attack. And so for Jean to get inside of the wave she’s going to need the help of Polaris. So what wee see is Synch takes Lorna’s spot.
Synch is a character who Hickman brought back recently after many years in limbo. You think 2 years limbo is a big deal? This character’s been in limbo for more than a decade. Last time I saw him was in Generation-X, but his first appearance was in X-Men #36 (1994). Nevertheless, his ability is not unique. He does what Rogue does... copy other mutants’ power. Perhaps that’s why he’s been in limbo for so long. Glad Hickman brought him back.
While Polaris and Marvel Girl make their way inside of the Annihilation Wave, everybody is doing their best to hold off this wave. Cyclops wants to do what needs to be done but he needed to wait for Lorna and Jean to find the source they need. However, Lorna and Jean end up delving deeper into the wave.
Polaris was already feeling gross seeing all these bugs surrounding her force field. The reason Jean was able to hear these alien thoughts was because her telepathy passed through Lorna’s heavy magnetic field. How interesting.
The panel above is the most absorbing part of the book. They finally find the remains of the alien who first brought the Wave to Earth. What they discovered was a dead mind. According to the Omega-Level Jean, she was never able to touch a dead mind but with Jean’s telepathy and Lorna's magnetism, this has effectively created an "MRI machine for memories." Again... using Polaris magnetism and Jean’s telepathy they effectively do an MRI. Their capacity to absorb information from a dead mind is amazing. This is a potentially major development AND my favorite combo move.
Once Jean learns it secret, she tells Sunfire to destroy the Wave! He literally unleashed the power of the sun itself. He created enough fire, flame and heat to rival that of an actual sun. Luckily Polaris was under her shield with Jean and didn’t burn their asses, lol.
They once again saved the day. Thanks to Polaris' magnetism amplifying Marvel Girl's powers, Jean was able to sift through the alien’s memories even after death and discovered a secret of Cordyceps Jones' involvement.
After the battle ended, they were invited to a great Kansas barbecue.
At the end of the day, everyone was enjoying their barbecue.
X-Men #3
From New York to Kansas and now Vietnam’s Golden Bridge in Da Nang. The High Evolutionary has a gift for the X-Men in X-Men #3. It just seems like the X-Men continue to find themselves in one fight after another. After all the X-Men are no strangers to being targeted for their genes.
The High Evolutionary appeared over Vietnam’s Golden Bridge in his spaceship, with his brand of unnatural selection and his genetically engineered daughter Luminous, yike. For those who don’t know, The High Evolutionary was crucial to the retconned origin of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who Marvel belatedly determined were not actually mutants. Now Polaris gets to finally meet the Maximoffs’ new sister.
The High Evolutionary visits the X-Men with a gift, a virus that will destroy humanity for the mutants, as part of the game coming from the Gameworld, the casino planet overseen by Cordyceps Jones.
Luminous came along and presents the X-Men with a nihility sphere as a gift. Rogue immediately turned down that gift, especially since she, High Evolutionary and Luminous have history. But the High Evolutionary insisted the X-Men must accept the gift.
Rogue, who crossed paths with the High Evolutionary during her time in the Uncanny Avengers, has her suspicions and didn’t trust him as his intention wasn’t pleasing. The High Evolutionary then mentioned how he helped Rogue and there seemed to be no way to escape the anger of this furious Rogue... she isn't having any of it and took matters into her own hands and smashes the High Evolutionary to the ground.
Polaris follows this up by attacking Luminous (haha) and some of the High Evolutionary’s Guards. Lorna uses her ability to summon metal and created hella boxing gloves to beat the S!#% out of her. The panel below is pure perfection :)
I wonder what The High Evolutionary and Luminous were thinking when they saw Polaris in action? Could it be they saw her as a potential threat just like her father? What ever it was clearly caused The High Evolutionary to order Luminous to summon his Evolutionary Guards to attack. And so another battle began.
While the rest of the X-Men fight the Evolutionary Guards, Marvel Girl uses her powers to stop the nihility sphere from releasing of the virus inside. Luminous quickly went to stop Jean, but before she can do so, Polaris seals her in a shield.
Luminous uses her powers to overwhelm Lorna and bursts from it... smashing Polaris and throwing her into Rogue. Bear in mind that she has both the powers of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, meaning she has reality warping powers as well as superhuman speed. Luminous is indeed a highly evolved combo of the Maximoff twins. As far as I know Lorna doesn’t know that... yet. So it took her by surprise to see Luminous had the ability to effectively manipulate probability via her "hexes".
Eventually the High Evolutionary decided he will forgive everything only if Synch gives up his blood. Synch was willing to give up a drop of blood in order for the fight to stop. The High Evolutionary always get what he wants but what I found interesting is that he actually was willing to give the X-Men a little bit more information to help them with the future threats of Cordyceps Jones.
Rogue gets angry because Luminous beats their asses, so to be even, Polaris made a joke at Luminous about how her dad had a kill switch for her powers. Apparently she was not aware that the High Evolutionary had the ability to turn off her powers. Something that Polaris shouts out to Luminous, informing her and angering the woman greatly. I wonder how this will end for her. The High Evolutionary took off and the X-Men once again saved the day.
Synch is worried about the mistake he thinks he made by giving that drop of blood to the High Evolutionary. Thinking what if it haunts them, but Cyclops knows he saved many lives. They are welcomed by the local people to stay and eat with them. Later on Jean and Cyclops were having a brief conversation about Gameworld. Lorna literally loves kids.
Cyclops and Marvel Girl are planing to split the team for a bit and the idea of going after the Gameworld is on. They’re going to try and take down Cordyceps Jones before he becomes a bigger problem because as we know he’s just going to keep on sending monsters down to Earth until he gets the results that he wants. I can’t wait to see Polaris going to space once again.
Polaris continues to shine in X-Men #5. This issue opens with most of the X-Men down for the count at the hands of the Reavers.
The X-Men are dealing with a new attack by the newer generation of Reavers. Unfortunately for the mutant heroes of Krakoa, the Reavers have come prepared for them. The violent cyborgs were hired by autocratic forces in Mexico to disrupt elections. Sunfire makes a last-ditch effort to fight but is soon knocked out, leaving only Polaris left to fight.
The fearless Storyline continue with a Polaris focused issue that sees the women take charge of the X-Men to battle the Reavers. Clearly everyone is taking a nap except for Polaris. Don’t expect a lot of character development across the team, this is really Polaris’s issue, where she takes charge of the X-men. That said, what’s on the page here is quite intriguing and her powers are well rendered by the team of artists. Shall we begin :)
Off in the distance we see Polaris waking up from her tranquilizer dart not knowing what happened. Looking around seeing Jean unconscious she crawls towards her, to then see her glasses broken and coffee spilled. This really pissed her off and now she’s ready to get serious.
So this just went from strictly superhero business to personal instantly. She's ready to bring this fight to the Reavers.
Polaris can control (not just) metal and we get a great showing of those powers in this issue. Using her ability, Polaris starts controlling a knocked-out Wolverine, and start using her like a weapon effectively, which is an impressive feat if you ask me. If I recall correctly, We have not seen Magneto doing this.
So, with Polaris about to make her attack, that's when we jump back to the Hellfire Gala event. This is where things start getting interesting.
During the Gala we see the very night that Polaris was voted in as a brand new member of the X-Men team. Everyone was putting in their vote telepathically and with Polaris going to cast her vote she cast herself out by saying "just not me". Jean senses this thought coming over, she feels that there's something little off about it and so she changes it up.
The verdict went in and she became officially part of the new X-Men team.
Flashing back to Monday where Polaris, using her amazing Magnetic ability, was able to stop a nuclear meltdown from happening at a power plant.
There were a nuclear reactor melting down and Dr Dane was able to control it. Using her shields to protect herself from the radiation as the scientist tell her to remove all of the control rods and put them in a pile.
Polaris gets to work but there is suddenly a meltdown, forcing her to seal it away in her shield. Moving the reactor core with her magnetic ability, allowing the scientists to see the beauty of it. The fact that she was able to contain it precisely while maintaining TWO separate forcefields was astounding.
Yes, Dr Dane helped contain the accident that occurred at a nuclear power plant. The scientist tells Lorna that this need to be stored for thousands of years. But Polaris has a better idea calling on Rogue who later takes Polaris and the reactor towards the sun (while Polaris contains the reactor core all the way to the sun) and dumped the reactor into the sun where it harmlessly burns up into nothing.
After Polaris helps contain a potential nuclear disaster... the next day X-Men find themselves battling monsters. I was wondering if this was the conflict the High Evolutionary warned them about.
And what Polaris finds herself up against was some kind of a dog that was just standing there watching them fighting. Lorna kindly walked towards to it to look into this thing.
Lorna explains that this thing is kind of mutation between seal and a terrier and there appears to be a little camera in it collar. Someone has been watching them and that someone is Dr Stasis.
I appreciate the fact that even our new villain, Dr Stasis, has put respect on Lorna’s name. We still don’t know who this villain is other then that we can only assume that the Reavers had been sent by Dr Stasis. We don’t really know if he actually has any actual animosity towards humankind, or mutantkind, or both. But we do see him killing what he referred to as a Silmaranian... a dog seal hybrid that he created that was meant to spy on the X-Men.
In my belief, Dr Stasis killed it because it didn’t want to fight and he decided it to kill his hybrid remotely for that very reason. X-23 thinks Lorna has something to do with killing that poor hybrid-like dog but in reality, Polaris didn’t hurt that thing. Funny how X-23 thinks such when she’s the one with blood on her hands, lol.
It appears she was working non-stop across the globe trying to help humanity in any way that she can. So that’s what bring us to the current day (Wednesday).
One of my theories is that the Reavers had been sent by Dr Stasis really just to test their defenses. Seeing exactly how they operate and at this point we’re about to find out because at this exact point the Reavers do believe they have the upper hand. They believe they kicked the entire X-Men team’s assess. Or so they thought :)
Polaris comes rising, demanding some answers, ready to strike back. She magnetically manipulates a knocked-out Wolverine to fight the Reavers unexpectedly. Using her quite effectively in combat even recreating X-23′s berserker slash. I mean she manipulated X-23′s adamantium laced skeleton. It’s quite brilliant to see Polaris' powers going all-out. The way Lorna puppeteers X-23 to dispatch her foes was incredible. Polaris has always had the power and potential to be one of the X-Men’s heaviest hitters. So much mystery in her power.
One of the Reavers actually thought he gotten quite clever in figuring the best way to stop Lorna was launching a large flashbang attack that blinds Polaris, in order to make it more difficult to have her fight using Wolverine.
Little did they know that does not work because she can see through the electromagnetic spectrum. She let out a surprised bark at what was happening, for what she was seeing was everything. Her eyes had allowed her to look past objects... to see through them. It’s not her first time if you look back in Magneto dark Seduction, she was able to do this too.Polaris doesn’t need her eyes to actually see anybody. She can see all of the iron inside of their body including the metal fillings in their mouths. Her green eyes glowed vividly and she raise her head in pride.
Polaris - “To Me, My Fillings!” lol
The Reavers are screaming in excruciating pain. Polaris is a mutant whose wrath the Reavers will regret incurring. Nevertheless, Wolverine finally comes back to consciousness and starts swinging at them with a pole. Anyways, Polaris gets to have her shades back but I’m sure she’ll get rid of them soon. The Reavers found themselves vastly underestimating Lorna’s powers and paying the price for it.
Polaris once again saved the day and the X-Men’s lives. After the rest of the team recovers, Cyclops and Marvel Girl announced to the Mexican people that the polls are open for them to vote freely in Spanish. Lorna Tells Jean that she wants to talk.
During the Hellfire Gala, it’s heavily implied at the beginning that Jean manipulated Lorna’s mind into making her say to get her on the team. Throughout the conversation between Lorna and Jean we get to know further about what exactly really happened.
Lorna wanted to know why her vote was manipulated back at the Hellfire Gala. Jean says she didn’t really rig that election is just that Jean is such a good psychic, she could see the truth beyond Polaris’s initial thought. Jean went with her first impulse “just pick me” that she wanted to be chosen but her self-doubt made her say “just not me” but instead tapped into her first actual desire to be an X-Man that she was denying herself. Despite the fact that she herself personally wanted to join the team to begin with. Polaris admits that Jean was right. How incredible Polaris is, despite not seeing it herself. Polaris even admitting that Jean didn’t manipulate her as she was talking truth about her own self-denial was good character work. Finally her self-doubt lifted and she is more confident in herself and her abilities.
After the X-men returned to their Treehouse, they started making a brand new outreach program for the homeless community of New York and shared some of that love around. Lorna got rid of the glasses :)
Ben Urich is trying to put some pieces together for his new story and this is not going to end very well for the X-Men.
X-Men #7 (2022)
Despite Lorna not appearing in this issue, Marvel at least put her on the cover.
In X-Men #8 we see M.O.D.O.K. taking AIM at the X-Men! Let’s be realistic here, M.O.D.O.K is a silly villain but has a sinister plan and shows us how ruthless he can be as an antagonist.
M.O.D.O.K started doing a new experiment. He created a rage virus that makes everyone full of bloodlust. He spread it in the cruise ship where everyone is going ballistic and ripping each other apart.
As M.O.D.O.K’S plan is playing out, the X-Men arrive on the scene to help.
Funny how Jean, Omega-Level Jean, one of the most powerful mutants ever, can’t sense the cloaked ship, but Polaris can. Tell me again why Lorna isn’t Omega... pretty impressive.
The X-Men ended up splitting into 3 groups in order to save the day. It was nice to see Laura in charge and commanding the troops.
Polaris, Jean and Captain Krakoa (Cyclops) save the people from the freezing waters. Love to see Polaris using her fierce forcefield more often. Lorna’s powers are precisely defined.
In the end, the X-Men defeated M.O.D.O.K and call it a day.
I literally love this team so much. The first heroes of Krakoa is like no other.
X-Men #10 show the X-Men’s troubles just keep piling one on top of the other (I guess being a hero is not easy). Tensions are flaring up between the mutants and ORCHIS, the secret organization that has been mobilizing public sentiment against mutants and has established an outpost on Phobos, the moon of Mars/Arakko.
Wolverine is back in action, and when she finds out that Orchis has something that seems to be a mutant body with adamantium, she gets to take over a plan which leaves her on a solo mission. This one will delight all Wolverine fans. My favorite moment, though, comes when the X-Men took bets on how long Laura’s mission plan would last. Her plans was conceived in less than an hour and apparently Polaris won the bet :)
Rogue looked mad, Sunfire sad while Polaris... lol. Rogue finally located Gamesworld where their next mission aims toward space. A big adventure is about to begin.
X-Men #11 (2022)
Polaris, Marvel Girl, Rogue and X-23 are in position to take on Cordyceps Jones. They take a trip to a space casino where Cordyceps Jones is taking bets on the destruction of Earth. They are now facing another threat, another job that need to be done. A threat that take us from the beginning of the book. However, these ladies look amazing, especially Polaris who appears to be the only one wearing a gown. They’re about to kick ass :)
The all women X-Team infiltrate the casino to stop the evil Cordyceps chains and shut down his operation where the worst people in the universe come to have the best time. And so, the adventure begins. The X-Ladies arrive at Gameworld telling the receptionist they have come to do some gambling and revealing that they have mysterium to use to bet... giving them the credibility to do what ever they want.
Gameworld has been sending out threats to destroy planet Earth and the X-Men. Its quite interesting all of these people/aliens betting on the deaths of planets.
Rogue admits Rocky was right about Gameworld who tells them everything that is going on with this place. They wouldn't know the half of it without Rocket Raccoon’s intel. Polaris tells them to stick to the plan and they all go off in their separate directions.
As Polaris spots a new dress, wanting to get her hands on it, she ended up shopping instead (lol), but while doing so, she learns Gameworld is run on slave labor. If they are out of line or disobey it will allow wages on the slaves planets. I have to say Lorna looks gorgeous as always.
Polaris senses Jean was ready to make a stand. Polaris’s goal was to overload all of the slot machines to create a distraction. Targeting the cyborg slots, which begin spewing out money. With the security out of the way, Jean slides into position and makes it to the big game tables. Grabbing the attention of the entire room.
She makes it clear to Gameworld that Earth is not to be messed with.
Unfortunately, Cordyceps infects Laura with his spores and she falls under his possessions. Forcing her to fight her friends.
The spores begin to infect Jean and Jones believes that he might have one of the strongest weapons under his control. Little did he know.
X-Men #12 (2022)
Cordyceps was completely unaware as Jean is able to slip into Jones’s mind and play mind games with him. Letting him see what he wants... letting him think he had them all under control. It started with Polaris vs Rogue.
The “infected” Polaris traps Rogue in a force field. Jean knows while Rogue is one of the most strongest mutants ever.. but not even she can’t last against Polaris force field. With that said Rogue was shot out into space.
Jones thought he was winning but suddenly realized that Jean is just making him see what he wanted to see as it’s revealed that Jean has had full control of Jones’s mind. None of this is real and Rogue is safe and sound. It was actually one giant illusion Jean had gotten inside Jones’s mind and started feeding him this whole illusion where he was winning. Though he begin to wake up only to find himself in Jean’s traps.
Rogue came in to the scene offering Jean a hand. Jean accepted and the two omegas ramped up their powers, combining them to keep Jones under control. Rogue proves that she can be an omega. She can handle and make equal power to omegas... she's up there like right there to classify as one.
Jean grabbing every spore out of the air and out of X-23 rounding everything up while Rogue hold Jones in place. This is when Polaris joins forces with Jean and Rogue and really shows the full breath of her magnetism ability and creates a HUGE force field around all of the infectious fungi that Jean and Rogue collected.
As Polaris seals the spores inside of her shields, she was able to imprison Jones altogether.
Love how Dr Polaris knows the only thing that escapes her bubble is light and nothing else. Remember... not even Rogue (Captain Marvel’s power) can escape Polaris’s force field :)
Cordyceps wouldn’t shut up therefore Polaris decided to shield her bubble with a second layer of metal from his cyborgs and any metal she can find.
Impressive. As she seals the bubble with metal from around the casino, Jones begs for his freedom by offering them a deal and that’s went everything went pitch black.
This panel above is pretty impressive, gorgeous and captivating. The fact that Polaris finishes off the prison for Cordyceps, encapsulating him inside of not only her force field but also a crap ton of metal creating a X was totally badass. She kind of fashioned this giant X sign on a giant metal ball.
They didn’t just save Earth, they saved every single planet that have been captured against their will. We’re talking about trillion of lives.
Sadly, we didn’t see the man Polaris wanted to slap at the Gala party, lol.
The city is “unexpectedly” once again attacked by the Mole Man and the X-Men quickly responded. But everything is going to be perfectly fine because at the end of the day they are out here fighting no matter what. They are doing everything they can to protect this planet because this is what heroes do.
Some of the team members are heading out of the X and Polaris is obviously one of them. Polaris, Rogue, X-23 and Sunfire seem to want to step away. Polaris says she is letting chance take her where she needs to go. She might as well go with the flow.
Of course, this is the last adventure with this lineup of X-Men. Cyclops, Jean, and Synch are sticking around but it’s time for a new Hellfire Gala and a new election. I guess...
The end (of something such as a great event, team and book).
Review:
It looked like the end of an era for the great Dr Polaris. The X-Men sadly ended their season far too soon with Polaris, Rogue, Sunfire and Wolverine departing from the X-team. The fact that it continues (rather than the book stopping) without Polaris is a no brainer from Duggan. Oh how I would have like to see the continuation of this amazing team but first of all I should like to say this whole book was a blast. Absolutely jaw-dropping. Polaris was the biggest draw for me, as she has been from the beginning of this run, and her entrance was absolute perfection.
Let me open by saying it was fantastic to see Lorna interacting with these characters. Polaris really stepped up and shined throughout this book. She grabbed my attention with how she used her abilities. The way she used her powers was so inspiring and she had such charisma as well when things didn't quite go as planned. In the first issue, where the X-Men are fighting a giant alien creature, Polaris tells her teammates to stay close and she sends up a shield surrounding them in a dome of metal. The X-Men were protected inside the structure Polaris created, preventing them from being attacked psychically. A genius move. As well as when she created a huge weapon (X-Mech) to take down the giant alien. So spectacular to see how her powers cultivated over the years. It is fascinating to see the scope of Polaris’s power and her characterization. She has been a major focal point to many of those who voted for her to join the X-Men.
While her action was big and bombastic, one thing that can’t be denied is that Lorna looks amazing when displaying her abilities. Polaris controlling a knocked-out Wolverine, using her as a weapon effectively to fight Reavers, was an impressive feat. The best part was when Polaris confronts Reavers and proves to be more than a match for them. Not only does she use Wolverine’s unconscious body but also uses lethal force by using the iron in the Reavers blood to fight them off. Issue #5 just proves how potentially terrifying she is. Polaris also uses her powers to help contain a potential nuclear disaster from happening at a power plant. The back and forth between the past and future continues to be compelling and centering the story on Lorna makes it more interesting. There’s also a favorite moment where it seems Jean and Lorna are able to use their powers to effectively create an MRI machine for memories to absorb information from a dead mind was mind-blowing and unexpected development. Jean also mentions that even Rogue, one of the world's most powerful mutants, could never stand against Polaris for long. That's an interesting statement. I thought that Duggan throwing that in here gave Lorna even more depth both in power and personality.
Duggan tells quieter moments with the characters, especially Polaris (though everyone gets a moment to shine). Duggan makes a scene with Polaris and Cyclops that should be a throwaway moment feel meaningful as well. There were so many hilarious moments as well as some very courageous ones. The part where Polaris quickly stops Luminous with an energy sphere was amazing despite the outcome. Polaris truly shined in those battles and the book in general. We got to see her use her power in such an exciting way that she had me cheering. She turned out to be the perfect member for this team. She works so well with each member, especially with Jean and Rogue being standout for me. Its great to see her being used in unique and exciting ways. I really enjoyed the dynamic between each member that was chosen. The girls going to space to kick some assess was my favorite. Every X-woman looks sensational, especially Polaris, who even gets a costume change midway through the issue #11. The fact that in this particular issue Jean and Rogue gets to be clever while X-23 gets some action and Polaris gets to shop (lol) is everything. The idea of sending the X-women to the depraved cosmic casino that is Gameworld was a MARVELOUS idea. I loved seeing an issue focused on the women of the team. Lorna was the center of the attention at the casino party. After Lorna discovers the slave labor part of Gameworld she uses her powers to cause some of the gambling machines to break. She’s been doing some over the top stuff with her powers and I’m all for it. I felt amazed and grateful for our miraculous heroes.
Being a hero is very hard, you need to face many challenges to defeat someone or save someone's life. Anyone can be a hero if they make good decisions and do the right thing. A hero is someone who is not selfish or mean but thinks about other people and shows bravery always. Polaris does it because of what she believes, not because of what other people deserve.
The way Duggan continued to build the ultimate team book by allowing characters to get exposure and good character moments was fascinating. What this series has done to further Polaris’s character is praiseworthy. There’s more reason than ever for Polaris to join the flagship X-Men series and to see her become such an integral part of this team has been a very big plus for me. The love that Duggan has shown for Lorna is such a great thing to see. Duggan definitely made really good use of Polaris. She gets a really badass moment to put Cordyceps Jones down at the end of the story. I also like the development given to her over the course of this run. She had all the potential to become a major player during her time joining the X-Men back in 1969 but that was cut short due to the cancellation in 1970. So to see her here, and truly flexing her potential muscles has been nothing less than a O.M.G. moment for me, because she’s really become a key component for this team. Unfortunately this looks to be the last issue with the current lineup. It’s been a fun ride with Lorna and the rest of her team.
The artwork is vibrant, beautiful, and dynamic. Pepe Larraz, Javier Pina and Matte Gracia are giving it their all. They continued to impress us all. I’m going to miss them.
So what now?
Sadly, this iteration of the X-Men comes to an end with issue #12. Duggan had to let Polaris go (he must have his reasons) as Marvel has other plans for her. She’s now in Captain Marvel’s book. She also will be participating in the Scarlet Witch’s book. And who knows where else she will be in the near future.
Polaris (sketch by me) from Hellfire Gala
Amazing... stunningly... beautiful Goddess.
