Why Self-Diagnosing is Not Okay!!!
- ITS HARMFUL TO YOU!
What may seem like symptoms of a psychological disorder could be a cover for underlying physical problems! Mood swings could be a resort of psychological struggles of could be the result of a physical disorder like hyperthyroidism!!! You could be convincing yourself that you have a disorder of the mind when in reality its pulling you away from the possibility that your physical health may be at risk!
You could think you have one disorder when you might have another one or even multiple, and it could be more severe than you think! My therapist always told me to steer clear of researching my symptoms because a lot of symptoms of many different disorders kind of melt together and I could be giving myself the wrong idea! I thought I had BPD, the symptoms were very obvious to me. Then it turned out that I had DPD. Those disorders coincide and the symptoms can be mistaken for one another! If i had avoided therapy and self diagnosed myself with BPD instead of getting a professional opinion, I wouldnt be receiving the proper help that I need!
ITS HARMFUL TO OTHERS!
It could invalidate those who actually are diagnosed and suffer with these disorders everyday! Sometimes getting diagnosed is a time-consuming process and its hard to go through! You searching symptoms on google and deciding you have a certain disorder without a professional opinion or any sort of professional view can in a way invalidate people who work hard and fight through so much to get a diagnosis and are at the point to recieve proper help!
- I understand why people self-diagnose and usually its because they dont have the option to see a professional so Im not trying to hurt anyone, Im really not. But if you are in a safe home to pursue this, there are cheaper options with therapy and even free clinics that exisit! Seeking proper help is not impossible!
-If you self diagnose and chose to not engage in therapy or visits to a psychiatrist, you could be risking your mental health. You could be missing out on proper treatments, proper diagnosis. You could think you have Bipolar but you could really have Borderline and could be missing the chance to be helped properly! Some diagnosis's require long-process testing, blood tests, offical assessments, the list goes on! You may need to be on a mandatory medication to help your symptoms!
DO NOT CLAIM TO HAVE A DISORDER OR SELF-DIAGNOSE IF YOU DONT HAVE A PROFESSIONAL OPINION OR DONT HAVE ACCESS TO THE PROPER TREATMENTS. ITS HARMFUL.
Its okay to suspect that you have a disorder and want to seek help, thats okay. But DO NOT claim you have it because you never truly know until you get a professional opinion (or even multiple).

Concept of the day: I donāt feel the need to always drag a friend or my fp with me to do the simplest things like buy laundry detergent.
In case you were unaware, a personality disorder is a mental health disorder which is literally ingrained into a persons personality.
Someone with paranoid personality disorder is always going to be more paranoid than the average person. Someone with narcissistic personality disorder is always going to have a bigger ego. Someone with dependant personality disorder will always need others more.
To truly treat a personality disorder takes years of intensive cognitive behavioral therapy. To completely reconstruct a personality is impossible. Personality disorders are unique from other mental illnesses because our disorder cannot be detached from us.
We can try to cope and try to better ourselves, but were bound to fall back into our ways now and again because of how deeply rooted our disorders are. We act without thinking, many times weāre truly unaware of what we are doing, call us out, make us recognize our behavior. Lack of recognition and awareness is the biggest reason we donāt get help in the first place. Above all, support us, forgive us, donāt demonize us because we are different.
Recently I was accused of being a horrible friend in highschool because once one friend group was distant or upset with me I would āuseā another friend group to my own benefit because i was hurt or alone.
Recently my therapist had diagnosed me with DPD. Now it makes alot more fucking sense.
I wasnt trying to use people i was just scared and im tired of people thinking I was just a toxic bitch. And im also tired of NO ONE even bringing this up to me ever. I didnt even realizing i was hurting people or doing any of this.

The most frustrating thing is having an FP that you arenāt dating and donāt share a romantic infatuation with. You develop a dependency but have to remember that they have a life and a relationship with a whole other person.
