It's nuts how common it is to not allow children to be angry, even (especially) in households where adults are angry all the time. As a child I knew my own anger was unacceptable--not just expressing it outwardly but feeling it at all. So now as an adult my immediate reaction to my own anger is often to feel guilt instead of like. Noticing when someone is being rude or unfair or my boundaries are being violated or whatever. fucked up.

something that has definitely stuck with me is seeing tiktoks of palestinian women making bread during the genocide. and it being specifically quick breads made significantly less than 18 minutes from start to finish. literally the fucking bread of affliction. forced upon them by a so called jewish state.

the hagode asks us to imagine ourselves as having just coming out of mitzrayim, the narrow place ("egypt"), but it doesn't always ask us to think of ourselves as pharaoh or his army drowning babies, enslaving people, and killing those who attempt to break free of our clutches. and yet that is the scenario in which most jews, realistically, find ourselves in today. yeah we recline and stuff like pharaoh, but we don't actually consider being like him. but we're totally supposed to imagine ourselves as just coming out of bondage, either for the aesthetic of eternal victimhood or to reaffirm empathy for oppressed peoples around the world. kind of falls flat rn.
