the drama on trans twitter rn is that a trans man has a trans girl oc who doesnt pass and is pre-hrt, and all the twitter tirfs are calling them transphobic and nasty for making a "characature" of a trans woman. this person also has an oc in the same story who is a also a trans woman who passes very well and is very feminine, and its clear the younger trans girl looks up to her, but conveniently everyone ignores this other character who isnt "clocky"
and all I can think is how sorry I feel for pre-hrt or non-passing trans girls who see this drama, see other trans women saying awful things about this character's small hips or her flat chest or broad shoulders or her height. how that makes her a characature and a transphobic hate symbol. and i just feel bad !!!! depictions of trans people who dont pass are important! those people exist and deserve love and representation!!!!
yayayaya
are people under the impression that aromantic people never want to have close personal relationships with the people in their lives. "oh i wish i was aro it would save me all this drama!" actually human relationships are always deep and complicated and messy and have the potential to hurt and help and change your life and being romantic is just one possible aspect of that. aromantic people want to be close to the people around them just like anyone else. and i know the real issue is that people think romantic relationships are the only way to be truly close to someone else but it's weird and off-putting to constantly hear the implication that aros are somehow fundamentally incapable of forming relationships that would impact their lives negatively cause they don't wanna go on dates with people. not even mentioning the aros who do
the thing about "oh it would be so much easier if i was aro" is no it fucking wouldn't. yeah genuinely sometimes aro people do spare themselves a lot of shit by opting out of the weird damaging social constructs around dating. but the reason that a lot of us are able to do that is because we've spent EXTENSIVE time unlearning the societal standards that are coded onto all of us by our upbringings and actively reteaching ourselves how to value our own inherent personhood and taking the steps to distance ourselves from the social constructs and contracts that everyone else in the world participates in and making the active choice to turn away from the one thing that society promises will Make You Happy. which is fucking hard actually. and it sucks a lot of the time. it would not be easier if you were aro. you would have more reason to do this work! you might have less of a choice in it! but you could do it right now if you really wanted. you just can't be bothered
extremely well-said. i have nothing to add

It's incredible how all of the censorship on the modern internet doesn't actually seem to be making society kinder or more wholesome hmm maybe there's a lesson in this

"I'm just a girl☺️🥰💖💞💅🌺🌷🦄" when you were eight and the teacher said she needed some strong boys to carry something you used to be furious, and when you convinced them to let you help, you carried twice as many chairs as the boys with the righteous anger of a girl who knew she was just as capable as them. Where did that go?

ohh so scaryyy!!
People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.
i have to reblog this again because i go insane when people act like the problem with her is "its cringe for adults to like kids media" or like "the books sucked anyways" like those are completely irrelevant and try to shift the blame and focus from the active harm. even the fact the books also have bioessentialism and antisemitism is a whole different conversation
I've been meaning to draw her for a long time. Cass is my fav member of the Bat family 🥹. Screwed up her hair a little bit, but oh well. Also, I finally got myself back into drawing again yaay.
Should it be illegal to not give blood or a kidney to someone who’s dying, even if it was a child? Like, if a child in your family is dying but you won’t/feel like you can’t save them by giving up your kidney, should you be arrested and either forced to give it to the child or go to prison?
If your answer is no because that goes against bodily autonomy which is a human right, then you understand why abortion should be legal. You are not required to give up your bodily autonomy for anyone no matter their age or their familial relation to you. Bodily autonomy comes first.
You think it’s murder? Well, even murder has exceptions. Self defense is legal if someone is trying to hurt you or even other people. If all abortion is illegal no matter how dangerous it is to the mother then self defense should be illegal too. Murder is murder, yes? No exceptions.
But I’m pretty sure you don’t want to give up your bodily autonomy or your right to keep yourself alive, so don’t force that on other people, okay? Besides, your bodily autonomy could be next.

Imagine that everywhere in the mechanical engineering world suddenly got infatuated with lasers.
Lasers have a lot of uses! Measuring things, heating things, cutting things, entertaining cats, particle physics. Lasers are pretty cool. Very versatile, very useful, potential to be very powerful.
Someone shows up one day and says "I have developed a never before seen technology! I call it a Death Star."
And it's a 3.4mW laser. Well no, we haven't seen this exact size of laser much since that's not really standard, but that's a bit of a misnomer, and I wouldn't call it new -
"HOLY SHIT GUYS! This Death Star is so entertaining! My cat loves it and it has such a nice color!" The Death Star becomes a viral novelty, and is mildly entertaining, as laser pointers often are.
Somehow, seemingly overnight, this leads to mania. "Lets stick lasers in EVERYTHING! The public loves them!"
More companies make 3.4mW lasers to jump on the bandwagon. Everyone that makes anything vaguely mechanical starts sticking lasers into their designs.
Everyone is calling them Death Stars. Any time there is a "Death Star innovation", it is just that they made a bigger laser.
Ford's next truck comes out and it has "Death Star integrated headlights", where they have just stuck giant lasers in place of their previously functional headlights.
An electric toothbrush is now "Powered by Death Stars" and shoots a laser at the tooth its cleaning. You think that maybe this could have actual applications as a sanitizing device if you're being generous, but when you actually look at the product, its laser has no purpose but to point at the tooth and drain the battery.
Mechanical products across the board get noticeably worse as everyone starts stuffing lasers in places where lasers have no right to be.
The lamp business gets in on it. "Here's a Death Star powered lamp!" These guys haven't even tried to stick a laser in their damn lamps. They've just started calling their light bulbs Death Stars and hoped you bought it before you could tell the difference. You at least appreciate that they haven't ruined their lamp about it.
Death Stars are lauded as the solution to all the world's problems. If it's not working, you should stick a laser in it! That'll fix it, everyone says. Once in a blue moon, it's even true! Weather prediction is really good now. But most things are garbage. Like "Death Star powered washing machines". What the fuck does that even mean?
Meanwhile, since all functioning mechanisms are being replaced with lasers, problems start showing up. All mirrors now cost $1000+ dollars, because the whole supply is being used up to make more lasers. The earth heats up, because everyone's blasting lasers at everything. People keep going blind, on account of all the lasers.
You, in fact, study optical mechanics. You know what a laser is, and how it works, and that it was invented many years before any of this nonsense actually started. People keep asking you about Death Stars, since surely you must know so much about them.
You explain that this is not really what lasers are for, except you have to call them Death Stars now, and that they're causing a lot of harm, so you don't like them much.
"Oh, but they're still such new tech!" they reply. "They'll figure out how to make Death Stars that don't burn your eyes out soon, and then it won't be an issue anymore!"
Somewhere, deep and buried, you remember lasers being used in particle accelerators, or in telescopes, or in laser cutters, or funny cat videos. They are, in fact, still interesting. Still cool.
But by this point they have replaced roads with "Death Star Powered Pathways", which are just laser pointers propped up on tooth picks pointing vaguely through the forests.
And you think you are going mad.
And they are still just FUCKING LASERS.
This post is about AI.
I blame @militechmatty for putting this idea in my head. Also, I’ve been playing a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 again, that may not be helping.
