I was thinking about Thorin, with the rejection of his cousin trailing him, traveling into the Shire alone. It's a summer night, sweetened by flowers, birdsong, and insect calls. The stars must be bright. Bag End, to him, is all golden windows and green doors. From inside, he can hear his Company--his kin and his friends--carousing and carrying on. And he knows, as soon as he joins them, they'll quieten.
