iβm sure you guys have heard about kansas invalidating trans ids- just so you know itβs not all hopeless
hi did you know that trans christians spend their entire lives in faiths that try and convince them that on a cosmical level they should hate themselves and for them this would be emotionally fufilling? hi did you know that kansas is over 70% christian? hi did you know that just because you think atheism is the correct and the only thing that deserves respect that doesnβt mean that this isnβt incredibly impactful and meaningful for many people?
reblogging this again to bring up that when my grandma said she didnβt understand trans people, and why would they betray the body God gave them, it would have been 0 help to explain to her all the biological and cultural and societal components to the existence of the concept of gender and trans people. You know what did make her pause and reconsider her stance? βDid you ever think that maybe God made trans people on purpose?β And we got to have a conversation about all the interesting things God has made so why wouldnβt God make trans people? And she came out of the conversation with more grace and understanding.
I don't think it's the truth that "biology" created trans people or makes them valid... it's true in the sense that we are ultimately made out of biology, but biology doesn't stamp something "Valid" or "Invalid," it simply is, transcending our ability to categorize it in uncountable ways
it seems like the screenshotted statement is trying to argue against god but making biology into something like a creator god that grants things reality.
i don't know how quite to express it...
Marriage is good and weddings are great but I hate modern wedding culture. You donβt need to bankrupt yourself to have a nice wedding. Stop supporting the wedding industry, stop buying outrageously priced engagement rings, stop spending 10k on a dress youβll only ever wear once.
Coming from a professional event planner - weddings are egregiously expensiveΒ because companies openly raise prices at the wordΒ βwedding.βΒ
Pro Tip - Never drop the word wedding while planning if you donβt need to. Most things can be forΒ βan event youβre planning.β This obviously doesnβt include things like the venue, DJ (who needs specific wedding songs),Β and the wedding dress company if youβre going that route versus just buying a dress.
For my wedding I gotΒ βdiscountedβ cupcakes, flowers, decor, bridesmaids dresses, groomsman attire, and invitations. I did thisΒ by either searching for things that arenβt marketed for weddings or not telling the companies I was working with it was for a wedding. Because honestly, most of the time they donβt need to know why youβre ordering.
These companies target people planning their weddings andΒ markup everything the secondΒ βweddingβ is said. And itβs said often because people assume the services change exponentially for weddings. They absolutely do not.Β
The best example areΒ the cupcakes I had for myΒ wedding. I used a designer cupcake store in town instead of spending $1000 on a wedding cake.Β If you place a large order of cupcakes with a cake tree for display - it costs about $150 for 100 (which is what I did). When you order theirΒ βweddingβ package - the price raised to aΒ $700 base for 100 cupcakes. The only other perk includes aΒ βtasting.β Forget that. Our tasting was buying a few cupcakes in flavors we thought weβd like and picked three. It cost maybe $20.Β
What these companies do isΒ scummy and targets people who donβt have information about the event industry.
I will yell it from the rooftops until people realize thereβs a better way.
if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
I hate learning about instances of "oh yeah we know how to do that, we just don't".
I took a year of architecture classes and this very thing pissed me of SO FUCKING MUCH.
The program was in this old converted elementary school built in like 1900. The modified rooms with blocked windows got obnoxiously stuffy but the unmodified rooms were always comfortable. Then I switched schools and took one class in the newest building on campus and got so fed up with how unbearably hot and stuffy the classroom was I walked out in the middle of lecture and dropped out of the class.
The teacher had asked the AC to be turned off in the room because it was "too loud" and she didn't like the air blowing on her. Meanwhile the room had super tall windows that couldn't be opened. So she expected us to just suffer.
I had a job in the weirdest office configuration I've ever seen. The office was only about 15 feet from window to wall but stretched the whole length of the building that took up an entire city block. And those windows were floor to ceiling but each 4-foot wide frame was rotated so it faced EAST. So in the mornings we absolutely ROASTED. Except in the winter, where the massive window to space ratio meant we froze. The only window coverings were designed to prevent glare, not stop heat and they refused to change them. They also refused to adjust heat or AC for our office specifically, because it was connected to the rest of the floor and calibrated for much larger/deeper offices. AND THEY SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY AT 5PM. My department worked until 8pm. So zero air flow at all.
So not only do they don't do that anymore, they take designs that were originally built correctly and intentionally make them NOT work. The windows designed to intentionally catch as much morning sun as possible are perfect for when you have a huge, open office floor that stretches back half a city block. The heat diffuses through the space. And when it's cold, less heat is lost overall because most of it is retained in the broader space. But when you cut that down to fifteen fucking feet you turn the shallow office into a den of temperature misery and cut off the rest of the office from light and passive temperature control.

I feel so joyous when I draw them
also I'm still working on the animation, I just turned it into a tween instead because halfway through animating I realized how much I suck at itππ

the "rip ___ you would have loved ___" meme is inherently more fun with ancient characters. rip clytemnestra you would have loved morse code. rip theseus you would have loved the airtag. rip callisto you would have loved wearing shorts.
rip Icarus you would have loved parachutes
anyone else notice how when "digital assistants" were just supposed to do specific tasks when you asked for them we had Alexa and Siri and Cortana, but now that they're being marketed as smart enough to take actions and make decisions on their own they've got names like Claude and Devin
@namanie @tsunderrated the point isn't "fake names -> real names," it's "feminine names -> masculine names"
