Celebrating the Sabbats as someone who does shift work can be a bit frustrating. I have had to accept this and in turn adapt my spiritual path in order to be manageable with my job. I decided to put this post together in order to share my experience and to give others support / ideas on how to still participate in these important Sabbats despite various challenges. Mabon is traditionally celebrated on the Autumnal equinox (September 21st) to celebrate the Harvest, as well as the occurrence of balance seen in equal hours of day and night. I worked a 12 hour night shift on this day. Adapting with this particular barrier, I began celebrating Mabon anytime starting on the 21st-29th of September. Whilst some practitioners may disagree with this practice, it is what works for me. 

Tonight I will be celebrating Mabon (September 29th 2020), a bit on the late side but due to work it was either today or not at all. 

My plans for Mabon include, nature walks. Taking time aside to reflect on the Summer, thankful for the growing season. As well as acknowledgments of the coming Winter. Thanking Persephone for a successful Spring and Summer, as well as leaving an offering to show gratitude and to bid her farewell as she prepares to go to the Underworld. 

House chores; cleaning the windows, decluttering, tidying the yard in preparation for the Winter.

Lastly, of course a “feast”, or as I think of it a hearty dinner for my family and I. I prepare a beef roast, accompanied by squash, potatoes and some carrots. Annually I bake an apple pie loaded with Cinnamon (for protection, love, and happiness), Nutmeg (for luck). I really enjoy this time of the year for enhancing my knowledge for kitchen witchcraft.
