I always see the discussion that many days, months, years have passed during this story.
I present to you a different idea.
There’s several themes behind Spirited Away: Capitalism’s effect on Japan, Environmental issues, and notably, Chihiro’s coming of age story.
From what I know, the idea of time passing differently in spirit worlds, is more based on western stories of the fae.
But something more common in Japanese folklore is spirit trickery/deception. Or more accurately. What you see, isn’t always what’s actually there. Chihiro starts this story as a young child, before her coming-of-age arc, that more or less forces her to become ‘an adult’. More accurately. The challenges she faces makes her mature as a person. What’s the most common thing in folklore? Children see what’s actually there.

hey that’s real fuckin neato YOU KNOW WHAT’S INTERESTING THOUGH is how for some totally strange reason, no one bats a gd eye at all the hetero relationships between children in cartoons or makes those relationships unnecessarily sexual AND YET as soon as you talk about the possibility of fictional kids being gay, suddenly it’s “i didn’t know who i wanted to use my dick on when i was ten” or “why are you sexualising children??”
REAL INTERESTING how kid characters can be straight and can explore straight relationships (with adult encouragement, mind you), while the very concept of a gay kid character is “unrealistic” and invites needless comments about sex
it’s almost as if folks think heterosexuality is natural and pure and kid-safe whereas being gay is something inherently dirty and sexual or inappropriate…… hm….. makes u think………………

Just a quick tip to artists
If you’re an artist who likes to work really close, (like me), do yourself a favor and put up two views. You can do this by clicking View–> New on your toolbar.
There’s nothing worse than finally zooming out and realizing what you were doing was very wrong. This saved me a lot of grief tbh. I’m sure everyone knows this already but ._.;; I arrived quite late to that party.

For Photoshop you’ll wanna go to Window > Arrange > New Window for [Document].
BRINGING THIS BACK BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HELPFUL THIS HAS BEEN. This will save you hours and hours of backtracking (fixing a thing close up, zooming back out and realizing that the thing you fixed doesn’t work with the rest of the picture–rinse and repeat). As someone who uses the ‘squint and see if it looks right’ method of drawing anatomy, the tiny window is a goddamned life saver.

Yes.
First settings->configure Krita->general->window->multiple document mode set to subwindow.
then, open a doc, window->new view-><doc name>
then window->tile

It’d be great if Krita’s overview docker can be as fast & high-quality as a document view. It’s much move intuitive to use that instead. Easier to call out and manage too.
