Shen has known this entire time that this whole thing with Frank was a set up(Ellis gets a bit chatty when she's tipsy) so he decided to use this to his advantage. He purposely avoided Frank during handovers unless he had coffee and always made sure he was too busy afterwards to talk. This was until one day when he decided fuck it, I'll go out with him.
On the day of the date John dresses up in a simple outfit (black jeans, a offcolor white tee shirt with a graphic from some coffee shop and a nice brown leather jacket). When he sits down at their table after entering the restaurant he notices how nice Frank is dressed up compared to him. Frank is wearing black slacks with a white collared shirt that has the top two buttons unbuttoned, the sleeves of the shirt of pushed up to display his forearms and a black suit jacket hangs over his chair. Shen sits down and they start talking about various topics and then they order while this happens Shen looks around to try and find the masterminds which he quickly spots. This was fairly easy given the fact they were hidden behind a newspaper with holes for their eyes like a cartoon. John continues to flirt throughout the meal giving Frank such a relief because he did not want to be the one to have to awkwardly try to flirt and embarrass himself. At the end of the meal John leans down and whispers in Franks ear "Do you want to get out of here?". Frank shakes his head and mutters "uhm yeah". Shen grabs Langdon's hand and instead of leading him to the exit he leads him to Dennis and Trinity's table and slams down the newspaper ripping it making Dennis jump and makes Trinity look at him. He clears his throat and asks "Did you seriously think that would work?" he puts a hand up to his face onto his brows and continues "What was even the end point in this?". Trinity sighs and starts explaining "So we both got involved with the other attendings and thought that since together we had hooked up with 3/4 we must complete it. So we made a plan so that you and Langdon would hook up and all of the ER attendings had hooked up with their subordinates I guess, now that I say it out loud it sounds very weird.". Shen responds with "OK, but why Langdon I'm sure there are much hotter people that would be willing to hook up with me.". Trinity shrugs and states "Well, Jesse's too old and Mateo's too young, so Langdon was the best option" and then adds on "Unless if we included other people who worked at the hospital not just doctors and nurses, but Huckleberry here decided it didn't count.". Shen blinks and says "Ok I guess, but I expect Dunkin gift cards from all of you.". Frank argues "I wasn't even apart of making of the plan though.". Shen remarks "You still joined them, so I want those gift cards by next week,byee." and then walks out. Trinity and Dennis both exclaims their disappointment in the failure of their plan and then walk out. This leaves Frank alone in the restaurant to wallow in confusion and failure.
