His truths seemed to fall flat, but he noticed the way the other pulled back ever so slightly. It was the truth; he didnât know a damn thing about Sean and he assumed it was for the best. His loyalty didnât side with the Craneâs cause, but he had a part ot play and if he didnât, people were going to continue to get hurt.
With that knowledge in mind, he had no intention of fighting back. If the anger that raged within the other finally won, heâd only defend himself. âIf thatâs what you think,â he countered, tone hushed as he looked back at the mechanic. He couldnât even blame Dom for the anger that flooded his system. Had Khalil been on the receiving end of the watch, he wouldnât have hesitated to throw a punch to get what he wanted.
âBelieve it or not, Iâm not here to pick sides.â He was working an angle, one that just so happened to put him in the middle of something much bigger than him. âYou want to know what happened to your friend? Let me figure that out.â He wasnât asking Dom to trust him, but if heâd give him a chance, heâd show a little good faith effort for the sake of showing he wasnât entirely leashed up.
.
A moment of stillness seemed to settle over Dom. It came nowhere near peace but he took a moment to catch his breath anyway. He felt ragged and worn down, firing at every side in a war that heâd started; one heâd hoped would have claimed him by now. But somehow he was still fighting, the Cranes giving him more to fight for.Â
So he stepped back, looking Khal up and down as if he might find what he was looking for written somewhere in the lines between. It seemed an easy enough conciliation. What more could he lose by agreeing? He worked his jaw, taking a step back, putting space between them. âAlright,â he agreed, nodding once. Heâd give him this much. This much, and that was it. Because Dominic didnât make the same mistake twice.
