Golden hour in a garden.
I bought a used Generation Girl Mari doll from a miniature fair a couple years ago, and then procrastinated a while on fixing her messy hair. I was also finally able to find her a Petite MTM body in a matching skin tone. I really wanted her to be short, like her original body, but I don't like the original body's sculpt that much, and the articulation was lacking. I had the head on a regular MTM body for a while, but wasn't feeling it. Now I'm very happy with this doll!
I wanna sew her some clothing that resembles her stock outfit a bit more, but for now, she seems happy in this outfit.
Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie Commercial (1996)
Behold, a *nearly* PERFECT Barbie. I say nearly only because her hair needs extra care to not become a matted, tangled mess that sheds like crazy, and her hair is just a tad too long imo but that 2nd one's a me thing. Otherwise 10/10 perfect dolly
Someone made them look like vampires!!!!!

*packing my suitcase for a 3 day trip* hm, but what if I need my terracotta warriors..
Barbie 1992 Tag Along Wags Puppy Dog
how i saw this thing for a solid 10 seconds
A Victorian dollhouse, late-1800s
this looks sturdier than most real houses built in the last 50 years
Here's my first try at the motorcycle jacket pattern from Doll Coordinate Recipe Vol. 5, accidentally printed in Barbie size as detailed here (which is fine because I was intending it for a Barbie anyway, it's just a little generous on her)
I acknowledge that it's not perfect, both to let people who might criticize me for its mistakes know that I know I made mistakes and it's fine, and also so people who might look at it and say, "No, you're wrong, there are no mistakes here" can maybe consider looking past the mistakes in things they make and say "It's fine."
The decorations are motifs cut from two different fabrics and adhered to the polka dot cotton with fusible webbing
Now to figure out the rest of the clothes for this doll
How it started
I did interface the collar and lapel facings
The fiddliest part:
not only because that's a slashed opening at that scale (I didn't face it, but did use fusible webbing to hold the folded/pressed edged in place), but also because I stubbornly interlocked those zipper teeth by hand, because I wanted to leave the rest of the zipper still functional (and with the bottom stop in place), which meant only using the unzipped parts above the pull. And then I had to remove all of the zipper teeth at the ends, so they wouldn't be in the seam allowance; this was done by clipping them off with sprue cutters.
Here it is once I got all the parts assembled and ready to sew together
I used some deep stash items for this!
Her hair is so sooooooft ๐
I didn't mean to straighten her bangs though. I just wasn't careful while doing the boil wash ๐
Oh is that kanekalon? :o
I'm... pretty sure that Hula Hair Barbie has kanekalon โ or at least every played-with messy-haired instance of the doll I've ever seen did; doll-grade kanekalon gets matted in a very specific-looking way... unless they made versions of Hula Hair with both kanekalon and saran? Like they did with the Sparkle Beach dolls? IDK. I can't fully tell by looking if the doll in this video clip has kanekalon that's in good condition, or saran. I assumed kanekalon because as far as I know, Hula Hair has kanekalon. It can be conditioned and straightened to feel very soft and silky. I've definitely performed some miracle revivals on matted messes.

Investigating Miniatures
I've been saving a lot of miniature images as reference lately, and thinking about miniatures. I quite like miniatures, and their popularity is on the rise... but I can't help feeling annoyed every time I see a lot of them, because so many "mini brands" toys are literally just cardboard boxes. You could print them yourself! In fact, websites exist that have old printables.
The first one I found has a section linking to other websites. I went to its home page and its entirely AI images, so I won't endorse the main site in general. It links to a lot of older pages though- it looks like maybe this site was taken over by someone recently, but still has old webpages linked (I'm talking 1999 old). Heres some horrible AI trash:
One of the links is to Small Stuff's Print Mini, which has a great gallery of free printables. Most of these are in the vein of older/vintage objects, including tube TVs/monitors and are not branded. Here are some of my favorites so far:
Morandi Sisters Micro World is in Italian and English, the site features printable wallpaper, floor, and decorative objects as well as sections on how to create DIY modeling clay. Last updated in 2013.
Custom Dolls, Houses, Miniatures (2010) has a whole bunch of PDF printables on this page, as well as links to other pages. MANY of those links don't work, but you can use them to find live pages- like MuffaMiniatures Etsy, which is still active and sells patterns!
Hitty Print Mini is a site now only accessible by the wayback machine. A lot of the pages are broken, but there are some available printables that are pretty cute. They're sized for a slightly bigger doll. I like the pet-themed printables and the books too.
Jennifers Printables is one of the most cohesive, still-in-existence sites I've found. It says it was founded in 2001, but the date at the bottom of the page is 2021, so it still might be a bit out of date. But theres TONS of cool stuff on here. I like the grocery sections, and the history information they include on the pages
Just some interesting resources. I don't want to link to sites that seem majority focused around selling things, but there are absolutely more free printables online. It's becoming harder to source these, too, because there are a lot on google images but link to pinterest or something.
Anyone else have any good sources? I'm interested in seeing gaps in what is available, too.
Pinterest is a really good resource for this, just searching "miniature printables" or "dollhouse printables" will come up with some good scans.
I will plug my own miniature pinterest board which does have SOME printables on it.

Canva has lots of templates for making your own I understand, both paid and free. I'm sure there are YouTube tutorials as well.

i know why you would boil a doll head, but what's up with the toaster oven?????
I think the poster said they were making clothes for their custom out of clay so theyโre baking the clay on the doll? Never seen this method done before
