To everyone who just started intern year...
YOU’RE DOING GREAT! Trust me, everyone feels shitty. It’s the very unfortunate nature of intern year. There is no learning curve; it’s a fucking straight vertical line. Things will get easier with time. You will relax with experience. It will be okay.
How to be a good intern? Show up on time. Work your ass off. Get shit done. Have a moderately good attitude. Recognize and learn from your mistakes. That’s it, y’all. The rest will come with time and experience. Open invitation to ANYONE who wants to vent or ask questions. If I can survive intern year, so can you. It’s going to be okay.

survived(?) my first week of intern year on NICU nights
Gen: pale, ill appearing, mild distress HEENT: NT/AT, eyes bloodshot, mucous membranes dry Resp: tachypneic, increased work of breathing after running up and down stairs for the entirety of a 13 hour shift CV: sinus tachycardia noted whenever pager goes off Abd: soft, non distended, making loud grumbling noises after not having any sustenance for 13 hour shift Pysch: anxious, frequent crying spells noted
A&P: First week intern on NICU nights without a senior resident on service, overwhelmed by expectations, dehydrated and fatigued. - go home - increase po intake - embrace the tears - enjoy your one and only weekend off for the next two months and come back slightly more human on Monday.
