I FINALLY GOT TO USE THE ‘well i don’t trust the government’ AGAINST AN ANTI-MASKER THIS WEEKEND

#this is important context #if you weren’t around at the time it is easy to miss but #anti-corporate sentiment was pretty much the lynchpin of cyberpunk until there were movies and games making money off it #it was the 1980s you guys #the entire point was that corporations are evil and technology should be used to circumvent them and escape their control over our lives #and not be used to make ourselves into another product #now that the internet is entirely monetized and corporate it’s harder to remember that originally it was synonymous w freedom & independence

This is a long-ass conversation I’ve had multiple times already.  I don’t have the interest in going through it again, but “assault is bad” isn’t the precedent set by this case.

The short version is:

“Afraid/scared” is entirely subjective, and it’s been disconnected from “reasonable.”  The defense of the first shooting was “he could have grabbed my gun.”

“He could have grabbed my gun.”  Meaning Rittenhouse brought it.  Outside of the threat of him losing the gun he brought, by Rittenhouse’s own words, he didn’t have much fear for his life of the man.  Looking at it like a man, he probably would’ve lost a fight, but if Rittenhouse had a Red Cross on his back and bandages I’ve a feeling it wouldn’t have been much.

Rittenhouse brought the gun.  The existence of the gun which he held is the basis of the self-defense case.  That shooting is part 1 of the story of the night that ended with 2 more shot and 1 more killed as Rittenhouse “was afraid” and fled.

It’s a by-number guideline for right-wingers to show up to protests, kill protesters, then get off (at least in Wisconsin).

Not in a narcissistic way, though we do deserve a little narcissism

It’s looking at the sun hitting your hair just right, and seeing how pretty it actually is

It’s taking so many selfies your camera roll gets filled

It’s looking at the mirror and registering that you love your body now
