Scam Alert!
Hey guys, I almost got scammed just now and I want to give y'all a warning and a heads up to keep an eye on any suspicious activity.
Out of nowhere, I got these suspicious messages:
The situation seemed plausible so I was ready to take steps to prevent my account getting banned. But then, they sent me this:
And that's when I got suspicious.
NO website customer support will ask you to message them on a separate website!!! EVER!!!
I looked it up and apparently this is a scam that's going around on tumblr where they take your account AND try to trick you into giving them money on top of it!
I'm glad I caught it but I know it was only because I have educated myself on how scams work. That's why I wanted to share this with you guys, in case they go through my followers or other warrior cats blogs and try to scam them too. I'm pretty sure the account that messaged me was stolen this way because the posting habits look legitimate if outdated. (Btw, Please don't harass them for this reason and others)
TLDR: New scam going around, NEVER message someone pretending to be website support on a different website or follow a link someone you don't know sends you.
Take care of yourselves out there, and maybe share this around to make sure no one gets taken advantage of. Thanks <3

Visiting family for the weekend, including my seven year old niece, who is obviously the most special and incredible child on the planet
Anyway, she really, really loves it when I tell her stories. She loves stories anyway, and at first this manifested as "stories about Tad-Cu Bryn", aka my father (her grandfather) who died before she was born. This has been a lovely way to keep his memory alive, and she adores every story - she has her favourites, which she will request.
Then it became apparent that she specifically loves me telling her stories. She'll happily ask others for them too, but from me she just wants any anecdote at all; which of course is wonderful and demonstrates that she is a child of impeccable taste and wisdom and brilliance, but also she has ADHD and the energy reserves of a seven year old and so this gets Tiring very quickly
Yesterday, in the car on the way back from the wildlife centre, she asked for one of my longer stories, and I was like hey, how about we try something different?
And she was like, no, tell me a story about Tad-Cu Bryn
And I was like, this will be a brand new story and you get to play it and help me tell it
And she was like, explain
So I gave her three characters to choose from. The first was a warrior with a sword she could name, who was nonetheless dyspraxic. The second was a gymnastic elf who could commune with trees but was afraid of heights. The third was a dyslexic witch whose spells sometimes go wrong when she spells the words wrong.
She picked the witch. I pulled up an online d20 on my phone. I went to start, and she insisted my mother had to play as the elf.
So I told them that the new queen of the kingdom had called for them, because their palace treasury had been robbed - specifically, a single enchanted coin that brings luck and wealth to a ruler's reign had been stolen. And tales of enchanted coins were suddenly emanating from across the land, so each one needed investigating until the right coin was found.
It turns out kids who like stories will absolutely lap this shit up. She was enthralled. It was the simplest story - they had to get into a bank, revive some unconscious gnomes, then enter the vault, find the coin that had been deposited into it, then get back to the queen. Enough to fill a half hour car ride, basically, but she managed to fill it with all the wacky hijinks you get from a ttrpg, particularly when she tried to smash a door down with a hammer but rolled a 1.
We finished with the queen saying it wasn't the right coin, and then my niece demanded we go again, this time with her playing as a sapient reticulated python. That time we made it all the way to the final boss fight, which was a sorcerer who created a big coin monster out of loads of coins; I asked my niece what she wanted to do, and she described graphically how she wanted to constrict and eat the sorcerer and immediately rolled a 19. So, sure! Okay. The sorcerer is now very dead. The coin monster, though, was still there, and as my niece tried to say she would do the same thing, I was like, no, you're a snake and you just ate. You're now immobile.
At this point, my sister advised her to regurgitate the sorcerer.
Great! said my niece. I'm going to do it at the coin monster.
And rolled a 20.
So she projectile vomited a dead sorcerer into the coin monster, and won the day.
Anyway, today she immediately demanded we play "the game with the story where we choose", and my brother in law is now asking me how he can do this with her ("Are you making it all up as you go along??"). But yeah, turns out, this is a fantastic way to entertain a seven year old. Vague ongoing quest, then three steps: get into (place), resolve (minor puzzle), boss fight to finish. Boom. Easy.
So far I've done a bank, a tavern, and an art gallery (it featured an exhibit that was just a room full of slippery banana skins). I'm going to do a pirate ship next
A few people have asked so. The best bits:
The aforementioned snake regurgitation bit. What I didn't mention was that at first, when I said she now needed to lie down and digest, her attempt to resolve it was "Nana, you need to find me a heat lamp" and I had to be like, "Nana has bigger problems right now because she is fighting the coin monster, and also you're both trapped down here." Why were they both trapped? Because rather than finding the stairs down to the basement, they chose to hack a hole in the floor and drop through
When they found their first enchanted coin, Niece picked it up with her bare hand. This made her hand swell up to five times the size and turn blue with orange polka dots. Her response? To immediately pick up the coin with the other hand so they could match
Niece decided very suddenly and randomly that slipping on banana skins was funny, and periodically she would competently enter a new room and she'd interrupt me to say "And then I stand on a banana skin!" This is why I made the banana skin modern art installation. Purely for her to enjoy getting through the room
At one point as the witch they decided to jointly fly on the broom to a new location. "You don't need to roll for that," I said, but Niece was enjoying rolling by then, and so did anyway, and somehow rolled a 20. It was the world's greatest broom ride. They had in-flight entertainment, free snacks each, they napped, and they landed 20 seconds before they took off
The morning I left, she saw me and asked if we could play "Dungeons and Dragons", so her father has definitely been discussing playing with her because I never used that name. Delighted to have offered this new past time into their lives, and next time I'll try and write a little detective campaign, I think
Me smiling so sneetly as everyone gives me fantastic lore tidbits about their characters for my campaign that let me tie everyone together 💖❤️
Can't wait to show the new NPC, I know they're gonna get everyone in so much problems >:3c
I offered a player this potential Major Source Of Problems for her character's backstory and she took it so readily. we're so back babyyyyyyy

This week's Unbundled is Breakup on Re-Entry by Riverhouse Games from the TTRPGs for Trans Rights in Texas bundle. BoRE is a game about rival mech pilots and unknowing lovers in their final battle.
This game is only five pages long (I guess technically four if you don't include the cover) but is remarkably efficient in its design. But I know Riverhouse Games for minimalist games, including a one-word RPG, so I guess four pages is easy mode.
The game is about a battle between two mech pilots, known to each other only by their callsigns. Unbeknownst to either of them, they are lovers in their civilian lives (side note, while the text is gender neutral, I kept using "girlfriends" for this writeup because I associate mecha with transbians)
The resolution mechanic for clashes is a trick-taking mechanic reminiscent of any number of card games and which primes you for the competitiveness of the battle. At the same time, each card played poses a question that fleshes out the characters.
A King of Hearts reveals the identity of the rival pilot, adding a new dimension to the game. Pilots can also decide to stop fighting at any time, ending the game as they decide what happens next.
You can find Breakup on Re-Entry on Itch:
You just discovered your lover is secretly your mech-pilot rival!
i am looking at you, new ttrpg players. i am looking you in the eyes. you do not need to be like the professional players. it's okay if you can't do voices or stutter or need to pause to think about what you're going to say or how your character would act. we are doing this for fun. gaming should never stop being fun
Grabbing you by the shoulders so hard that my knuckles crack. Matthew Mercer has been a GM for the world of Critical Role since 2012 but he had been playing and running games for 20 years before beforehand. And when the core team started, it was graph paper and pencil and the theater of the mind guiding their battles not the fancy map pieces the team had now. And Brennan Lee Mulligan came about the same way, his mother is a well published author and playwright who encouraged his creativity, the man used to be a larp summer camp counselor
You don’t start off day one being a smaller sideburns version of Matt, you’re not supposed to be a smaller sideburns version of Matt
CR as of now and anything on D20 is recorded ahead of time, a lot of laughing parts and breaks of immersion are cut for time the GM rifling through paper for fives minutes is cut for time, the players looking for the right spell description is often cut for time. Brennan hosing down his weight in almonds is happening in the background while the cameras focus on the players
Both of these GMS have lamented on how sad they are that countless people are afraid to start their own campaigns because they’re not like them, you’re not supposed to be!
The first step to being sort of good at something is sucking at it, and more times than not the definition of good in this regard isn’t matching the place style of another gm/player
Also I think Dimension 20 and The Adventure Zone both filmed endings to stories and then went "wait no that sucks we wanna do over" and thats so cool as a concept! If the game goes badly and isn't enjoyable just rewind it and go again!!
Tabletop Plot Hooks - 2
There seems to be quite a bit of chatter on the streets, as of late! The most interesting details are lost to all but the most perceptive.
1. The town guard has captured a doppelgänger. It insists that there are others of its kind in the city, and that one of them must have committed the crime it is locked up for. If only anyone could tell them apart.
2. A prestigious and wealthy museum in a large city has several magic items on display. One of them is a decanter of endless water. Unfortunately, the town inland from the city has had an awful drought that has started to claim lives. The town’s leader has requested the decanter, but the museum is unwilling to give it up without a price. The town can’t quite pay the price.
3. A friendly mimic in the form of a small berry bush waits on the side of a small village road. It accepts gifts of trinkets and coins as food from children, never attacking. A group of adventurers marches into town claiming that it ambushed them and that it should be killed.
4. An alchemist needs someone to run an errand to get a prized ingredient. They’re offering a very hefty reward in treasure, but refuse to disclose what type of potion they’re making. It seems sinister, but anyone who takes the job is sworn to silence.
5. A distorted map that continues to change is uncovered. It only barely correlates with the real world, and seems like it’s of some other plane. Judging by the map, the plane is in extreme danger.
6. Everyone within a certain area starts having supernatural dreams. The dreams draw on the person’s deepest fears and insecurities. They become more and more harmful, until they hurt the person in their waking life. The dreams don’t stop until the person confesses their dream to the person it would hurt the most.

I wonder if I liked it.
This is honestly the most badass shield I’ve ever seen, beating out the lantern shield by virtue of being at least somewhat practical!
