Not joking when I say there is something... healing(?) about the Devil May Cry games and its storytelling.

Yea it's stupid goofy 90% of the time but it's also so SINCERE. The cheesiest, most ridiculous thing could be happening but the whole time it's saying with full confidence, "Hey. this is awesome right? :) that slow mo was really cool right? :)"

And youre like, "you sonovabitch you got me. that was so cool."

DMC3 for example. Dante driving a motorcycle up a vertical tower and then upside down as the wall breaks off? Of course he can do that. He's Dante.

Vergil doing literally anything? Nerdy. Showstopping. Spectacular.

Silly twins being silly together? Best thing I've ever seen in my life.

Yea this franchise has been memed to high heaven, but that's because it is just so goddamn over the top and genuine. Irony poisoning has been talked to death but it bares repeating just how annoying it is that every new piece of media has to be the first to get in on the joke like its embarrassed in itself and its not cute anymore!

Your story can be the most self-indulgent, cheesy thing ever but if you go all in, the fans who love it will REALLY love it.

#devil may cry #this is exactly it. dmc is genuinely so healing when it comes to reassessing your own relationship with your works #it IS so over the top and goofy and campy. but the thing is. IT'S SINCERE #it plays things straight in that it doesn't lampshade anything or steer into irony poisoning. it's genuine and doesn't apologize for it #you'll see the most cheesy or ridiculous thing and it doesn't backtrack and go “errrm that was awkward”#I this is a huge reason why I love dmc outside of the fact it's heavy in gothic elements #it's genuine. it's sincere. it's not afraid to be what it is and thinks its doing the coolest thing possible #which is a mindset and approach we all need to have not only to our own works #but everything we do in life. about how we are and act as people too even
