This humble gentleman is a legend who has had a huge influence on most of the Hip Hop you may have listened to in the past 25+ years but you probably don't even know how.... His name is @BreakbeatLou aka Louis Flores co-creator and editor of the most essential break beats compilation ever made "Ultimate Breaks & Beats". Lou and his partner Lenny both pooled their collections to find the cleanest/loudest pressings of each breakbeat and Lou would set to work recording and producing the edits which have been the basis of literally countless Hip Hop anthems. Now the extra special thing about these records were that they were recorded/re-eq'd to sound PHAT and LOUD and the edits were meticulously cut and spliced to loop the breakbeat. This was not only decades before #WhoSampled and the internet and even digital recording itself... But this was also when DJs furiously protected the secrecy of their highly coveted breakbeats which were a stamp of a "real dj" who would "dig" to find records/song that had a section which would break out into a solo drum groove... This was the original basis of what started Hip Hop music and the UBB ethos was to allow some of the DJs (who maybe couldn't cut up like grandmaster flash or JMJ) to stand a chance at rocking these breaks without having to find these often super rare originals and to also have 2 copies so they could repeat the break section over and over between 2 turntables. 🔶 There is not a super hero producer in Hip Hop that hasn't sampled or scratched Ultimate Breaks & Beats! Premier, Pete Rock, Dr Dre, Rza, Timbaland, Kanye, Bomb Squad you name it, they will at least have cut this up as a DJ or sampled drums and sounds from these records. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH THIS MAN HAS CONTRIBUTED TO MUSIC!! 🔶 I would adamantly insist that Jungle & DnB would not exist as we know it without Lou's edits of #SesameStreet by #Blowfly / #Think by #LynCollins and #JamesBrown and the infamous #AmenBrother by #TheWinstons.... Without UBB it is unlikely these same breaks would have reached the hands of the producers that created those genre defining beats. #UltimateBreaksAndBeats
